In this video, I'm walking you through the step-by-step process for how to critically think in nursing school.
I always found it crazy that when you get to nursing school, everyone throws around this phrase "critical thinking," and they all expect you to know how to do it. But no one tells you what it even means!
So I'm going to walk you through how to critically think, step-by-step, so that you can FINALLY understand it and start doing it in nursing school.

After entering nursing school with a 4.0 GPA I am barely pulling B's and C's after studying night and day. I've been reading and re-reading my text books trying to force various concepts to sink in. I stumbled upon your videos and two hours later (after falling down the rabbit hole and watching many of your videos) I think I finally understand Critical Thinking. Thank you for taking the time to share your wisdom in a much more relatable way than a seven pound Nursing Process textbook.

I passed anatomy and physiology with A’s then it came to my first exam in nursing school and I barely passed with a C. I was lacking the critical thinking! Half way through the semester and I developed better study habits but wasn’t fully there. Then I found your videos and they have saved me! Thank you for all that you do (: I got a B on my most recent test and hoping to keep going higher!

I just started medsurg a week ago and my professor is really sweet but she doesn't give us the information that we really need to know during lecture, so i really need to read majority of the materials from my textbook. I was so confused and overwhelm on how to read the huge medsurg textbook and what areas to really focus on. Thanks to your videos on how to study in medsurg and the critical thinking in nursing school, I now feel to confident and ready to start studying for medsurg. I really needed these information and feel for confident to continue my nursing career, looking forward to watching more of your videos.

I would like to add that as a key part of critical thinking is clear and direct awareness of the *complete* list of cognitive biases, memory biases, and logical fallacies.
Obviously not memorized but you should have read the entire thing to get a feel for exactly how little confidence we should have in our logical reasoning.
We aren't really doing critical thinking if we aren't aware of quite a bit of detail on the pitfalls of critical thinking.

@@NursingSOS Your material is very helpful. I'm from Los Angeles & I graduated from summit career college in Anaheim. They closed that location. Ever since then I gave up it's been 12 years since I took the NCLEX but I need refreshers on all the subjects. I wish your material was available years ago. Better now than never though. A wise person told me & she also was a nurse she said some of the best nurses didn't pass the first time & she said don't be discouraged stay focused and keep going. She reassured me to retest & not give up if it wasn't for her I would have still given up. I'm so glad I found your videos Christina they are so much help. Also I would like to apologize to you for asking that personal question about if you were in California. I don't know why but you are giving Cali vibes that's the only reason I asked. However I do apologize. I don't want to seem like a creep lol. ☺️

Based on Critical thinking, it includes two main points which is Planning ahead and connecting the dots to everything. Always planning on how to make a next move, supplies, food, gowns, assessments, give meds, flush ivy’s whenever u walked into the patients room.
Connecting the dots has to do with comparing and contrasting everything of disease process, effects, and symptoms. An example of connecting the dots is ( begin with; D- definition or description of the topic
R- reason for the topic ( rationelle on why it happened )
C- Connection to everything that happenes )
Example of a cardiac system: describe the cardiac system, gv the reason for the importance of the cardiac system here the blood is rich in nutrients and oxygen and without it the heart will fail, blood take away waste products, how does it connect with everything, it affects two main areas which are the lungs and the kidney . It sends blood to this body parts and if blood is pumping well, they function normally but if blood doesn’t pump appropriately it causes disorders beginning with the lungs and the kidney hence will be filled with fluid in the lungs and u will hear crackles, when u use your stethoscope 🩺, Patient will have problems breathing due to inappropriate gas exchange.
On the cardiac side, if blood isn’t going to the rest of the body including the kidney, nurse is expected to see? There will be a decrease in the iron output, this will cause a difficulty in determining patients pulses, hands will be cold too.
