ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.org/supportus
Hey oxford union , can you number the videos in the correct sequence as you used to so we can watch them in the right order?🙄
An even better suggestion, can you please upload the entire event as well?
That isxa well structured convincing speech! Indeed people are as you mentioned it deluded into thinking that they share some personal bonds with the person who takes them around their house school, bedroom or whatever...whereas the person who watches is ALONE behind or in front of (as you find it suitable to figure it) his or her screen, and those people will never meet, genuine relationships are miles away from that concept !
I find the algorithms extremely problematic because it means we see the most extreme viewpoints because the strong reactions are seen as a plus for the social media company so they push them more and more. I end up feeling depressed about the state of the world and then have to remind myself we are not built to hear thousands of different peoples opinions every day and particularly those that are divisive and harmful- it's very easy to get sucked into it all.
7:47-8:00 Precisely. Too many people fall into the delusion of parasocial relationships with influencers. Attention is the primary, most valuable currency these days.
"*God Bless you my child*"
I think someone needs to teach him the correct context of "my learned friend" 💀
Stopped the video as soon as I heard that.
