The Rendlesham UFO Encounter and the Alien Message from the Future
The night after Christmas, 1980, was the last time Airman First Class John Burroughs would ever lead a normal life.
He was on patrol at an American-operated Woodbridge Air Force base in southern England. Woodbridge and nearby Bentwaters - called the Twin Bases were rumored to possess nuclear materials. This was the middle of the Cold War, and tensions were high.
The threat of nuclear attack, global escalation, and more, sat heavy on the shoulders of Burroughs and his fellow servicemen. But their job was simple: keep themselves, their nation, and their allies safe.
So, Burroughs conducted his nightly rounds, checking the perimeter for anything that threatened the peace.
Suddenly, a bright light descended from the sky. Then another. Burroughs watched as the lights fell into the forest surrounding the base.
When he and his team arrived to inspect the crash site, they were worried it was a Soviet incursion. But, what they found was far more terrifying than anything the Soviets could think of.

In all this Rendlesham incident,the phantom island of Hy-Brasil is still a mystery. This island was shown in some maps late until 16th century and there are strange reports of some sailors who claimed to land the island and saw huge sized rabbits,a castle and a hermit.The intriguing thing is that in Irish mythology there is a mentioning of an island at the west of Ireland. AJ,hope you delve into this phantom island phenomena recorded in history in a different episode.
I bet that was a killer rabbit who ate curious sailors which came too close. And the hermit had a helm with two horns, while French soldiers guarded the castle.
Dude, my one and only experience was in Ireland. I was 7, my old man had taken me to watch the moto racing and we stayed on a beach for the night. After getting the car stuck in the sand, a passer by got us towed and we set up the camp and barbecue. My dad went into the tent to sort the food out, whilst I stayed outside. I watched a ball of light from the horizon come toward the coast so fast that I fell backwards trying to watch it fly. It was like a zip. This was 2004, the same kind of time the tic tac was going on.

This channel is incredible. It’s not afraid to explore “wacky” stuff and presents evidence both supporting and against certain theories. I love exploring strange things in the world and trying to understand them, and this channel has given me even more strangeness to ponder.
This channel feels like those educational tv series back in the 1990's when you didn't have cable. It's so nostalgic and I love to watch this channel. It deserves to be programming on cable tv.

Every other video on every other chsnnel, people talk sbout the content or tell a stoey similar to the one thats being told , or debating each other . This is legit the only channel where you see every single comment talking about how talented AJ is and how its the best channel on CZcams and that rheyre adddicted to the content. I've seen this story covered several times by other content creators and I think this is the first time I'm hearing about *all* of the inconsistencies of the story. I know it's more exciting to not bring up the things that don't fit, but leaving things out never gets us closer to the truth...and I think that's what we really want when it comes to UFOs.

I hope you never stop producing content. This channel is the highlight of my week. I recently left the job from hell after 3 years and knowing that I had The Why Files to look forward to every week was seriously one of the few things that got me through the week. I work for myself now and I still look forward to my weekly does of The Why Files! I make sure I have a beer, turn my phone on Do Not Disturb, sit back and watch.
I absolutely feel with you about the part when WF was the only consistency of any kind of relief besides a week full of suffering because of my job I hated so much till I finally came over it and changed some things to became my own boss and absolutely came back to enjoy every single moment

CORRECTION: I think the coordinates you gave is not the city of Caracol Brazil (16.763177°N,89.117768°W), rather the city of Caracol, Belize, which has more anthropological and archeological significance, as it was a great Mayan city! I live in Brazil, and that city (in Brazil) has little historical significance.
I live just down the road from Rendlesham and I walk my dogs there most days. Problem for me is that this story keeps changing as the years go by, looking forward to hearing this version.
This happened so long ago....and that in itself, lends the topic to differing stories, with some aspects seemingly created, just for the publicity...and to top it off, a few of the several witnesses to this two-night event, have not said much of anything!...That reminds me, of the curious fact, that a few witnesses to the death of JFK, were caught briefly on film, but never bothered to come forward...maybe out of fear of being harassed by media, or possible conspirators? We human beings are a goofy bunch!

I've separated the wheat from the chaff as I always try to do. All I'm saying is don't insult the people who were there by using the word "goofy" in relation to this incident or them. How would you feel??
I agree. I've seen older interviews where the guys described the UFO in great detail, but in a more recent one, with Lou Elizondo, the same witness said he "blacked out" and couldn't remember anything. So, which version is true?

Every time there’s a video or documentary made on any mysterious subject the creators choose to take a side of sensationalism or debunking. The Why files always looks at both sides as well as the middle ground and no one else does it like this. That’s why the real thinkers out there love you and that’s why you have gained so much success. Keep it up and don’t ever leave us.

I was stationed with a security police officer that was at the base when this happened. He said this wasn't the only incident at the base.
There was a major UFO incident at the base in the 1950s it's a famous case.

I might direct you though to a fairly recent research video you can find on YT called From Radar to Rendlesham by Professor Simon Holland. I recommend the entire video but of particular note is the section on magnetic field effects on humans at about 45 minutes in.
AJ’s wrap-ups at the end are always my favorite part.
Finally had time for netflix and chill, got a bit tipsy, I just watch CZcams instead. I came across this channel and I got hooked watching as many videos as I could the whole night. I'm a big alien-topic fanatic when I was a kid. Now, I think this channel is very interesting and thought-provoking.
Jim penniston sent me photos from back then. I also worked with Nick Pope and he said this was the most compelling of all the cases. Someone successfully sued the British Government for radiation poisoning. Great show as always.
Not to mention the tenant farmer who lived across the field from the landing site who made a hell of a fuss. He ended up being bought his own farm in the West Country to shut him up.

The US government wouldn't even admit their own base was real, when sued over health issues contracted there. You can admit to a base being real without revealing everything done there. If they had just taken care of their personnel, it would never have become an issue.

My Mother was stationed at RAF Biggin Hill in South East England in the late 70's and she worked on radar and switchboard. UFO's were a very frequent occurrence and many people reported there experiences

That's not a surprise as we were always warned to not talk about anything we did on the bases or anything about our jobs.

I live about 15 minutes from Rendlesham forest, and have hiked around there quite a few times during the day and also at night. It is a bizarre eerie place no matter what time of day. Where the ufo supposedly landed, you never hear birds or any wildlife.

One of the most interesting events in the history of ufology
Of the half-dozen re-tellings of the Rendlesham Incident, this is by far the best and most comprehensive.
This is why I love this channel so much. A very clear and rational explanation without taking a specific stance on the incident. Like with many other UFO stories, I really wanted this to be true, but I am now left with some healthy skepticism.
Doubt Penniston but trust Burroughs. Even he says penniston’s info is sketchy. Watch a 2023 interview of Burroughs.
I have a colleague who was a US Army Security Officer in Puerto Rico who described an experience very similar to Rendlesham at about the same time. He had never heard of the Rendlesham encounter. He found the story very interesting... and familiar... too familiar...

Love your channel. I’m not a UFO expert by any means, but I was a programmer in the 1980s. I can tell you that ASCII was indeed a widespread standard in 1980, both on mainframes and personal computers. President Lyndon Johnson mandated it to be used on all US government purchased computers in 1968.

I grew up in East Anglia in the 80s not a million miles away. I was around 12 or 13 so late 80s. I was standing outside the back door of our house and I saw 3 lights in a triangle formation (it was pitch black, no light pollution) fly over the house without making a sound. This is the countryside it's dark and quiet. I had never heard of triangle UFOs until many years later. I'd often see military aircraft, red arrows, microlights etc, so I knew the difference.
I was in ohio In October 1969, i saw 4 ships hovering in the air, one was a cigar shaped craft 2 were these spheres and one was a round almost donut shaped craft, the two spheres flew around next to the cigar then became attached to the base of the cigar ship, next the cigar craft with the spheres at the bottom began moving in and out of the donut ship as to create friction or energy or something? After around like 2 minutes of going in and out litte probes flew out of the tip of the cigar craft into the donut craft and the cigar with the spheres ship took off at almost instantaneous speeds and the donut craft hovered for another minute before disappearing. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen.
My dad was driving home the night of the incident not far from the airbase. He said he saw a bright light move straight across the sky at extremely high speed, way faster than any aircraft. He said it then dropped down in the distance suddenly and went out of sight. He said it was just 1 bright light though, he didn't see any shape to it.

I stumbled upon this and watched for hours. There are people who are open minded and intelligent, capable of thinking all the way through a given subject from any number of perspectives. The CNN VS FOX deal makes me sick. So good to see that some people are interested in thinking.

I really appreciate the points you make about counterintelligence being a large part of these UFO/Alien stories. I’ve always had the same view yet it seems most people are very polarised on the topic.
I love your channel and willingness to present topics fairly. I’m a strong Sensitive with abilities that include precognition and mediumship. I’m also Medical professional involved in cancer research at a well respected University. Both my parents were career Navy, my Dad as a pilot in WW2, Korean, Crisis and Vietnam. I grew up on stories of FooFighters and odd things he’d seen but never reported for fear of being grounded.
We lived on base, he flying with the Enterprise battle group.
Then something strange started happening. The MP’s started finding me outside (I was about 4 when it started) while all doors and windows were childproofed. There were 2 deadbolts and a standard lock. The keys were locked up, my parents wore them to bed, didn’t matter. I remember each episode clearly, and would See a calm blue light that segued into a voice teaching me about my abilities and life path. I was told ‘they’ were inter dimensional beings who are Guardians. What we do in our world affects other dimensions and realities. (Think The Dark Tower by Steven King or MultiVerse Theory.
I believe time is a human construct, we mainly being 4D. If there are 11 dimensions as string theory states it makes perfect sense that they could phase in and out of our reality.

I'm British and I was working on Bentwaters when this happened, an American service person and friend told me about it as one of his friends was there, If I remember correctly he said he was terrified and shortly after was shipped out as was Holt I believe. I now store my American RV there, would love to see something. You can go on a walk to the actual site where they have a manmade craft there.

But normally I work Mon-Friday, and I took off this past Mon and Tues. so I only worked three days this week, which really messes me up anyway, as it felt like a Wed today. I had to keep telling myself it was Friday all day. Then I saw the notification for the WF, and I was so confused- I thought, oh no- today is Thursday, (which is when the WF always premiers until today when it premiered on a Friday). I have notifications on for the WF, and didn’t think twice when it wasn’t on yesterday, as to me it seemed like Tuesday. Geez, I hate having to explain something so obvious as to being confused when the WF premiered on a different night than normal. and from reading the other comments, I was far from the only one who was confused.

Thanks for showing all sides of the story. I love the way you build it up and then tear it down. The problem I have with the lighthouse theory is all light houses are masked to prevent light from shining onto land. It's not just annoying it's dangerous.

Yeah. And lighthouses don't give off radiation that causes health problems. But A.J. also didn't try to debunk that part. I like the channel because he always gives the info for and against. I'm a conspiracy theorist but I want to know the truth. Sometimes we can't know without a doubt, so we have to sift through all the available evidence to form the best conclusion that we can. Then there's the guv'ment disinformation folks. They are very real.
The conclusion that I've come to with this story is that something that the military boys couldn't identify as a normal military craft (by definition, a UFO) did land there that night. Everything else about the story is hit or miss. The men's health problems can be proved or disproved by medical records though. But...doctor/patient confidentiality.

This Why Files episode, however, as far as I am concerned is the best summary of the whole affair that I have encountered. Very well done, indeed. A really nice, balanced look at this case. There is so much more to the Rendelsham incident(s) than were mentioned in this story. If anyone is interested in the entire story, which actually lasted weeks, not days, check out the work by Gary Heseltine. He’s a retired criminal investigator who decided to look into this case and what he uncovered goes much, much deeper than late December of that year.
