    I'm getting a Kinetico system installed. Today is 6/27/2023, they install on 6/29/2023. I'm getting the water softener, the hydrogen peroxide part, and the k5 drinking water system. Today we had the salesman come in and do the water test which was much more of a sales pitch than anything. Sort of high pressure too. We were quoted ~10k for just the softener, ~11k for the softener with hydrogen peroxide part, and ~12k for the softener, peroxide, and k5 point of drinking water. This is waaaaay more than I wanted to be spending, but we've been living with horrible water for 8 months now and I don't want to mess around. Anyways I wanted to share my experience, so anyone who would like an update, please reply here and I'll share anything I can. I'm having second thoughts already because of the price, and I feel like simply a hydrogen peroxide system on top of my current water softener would do the trick for everything but staining... I'm normally such a cautious buyer, agonizing for months over a 100$ blender or something silly like that.

      So far what I have learned from having it for a few days is 1) the people altered my plumbing so that the outside water spigot is now softened de-odorized water? A mistake I will have them correct. 2) This system uses SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much water. The drinking part alone wastes 4.5 bottles of water directly for each 1 bottle I fill from the tap. I'm saying directly, because that's not well water that it's wasting. The drinking water piece and the deodorizer piece both recharge themselves using deodorized and softened water. the water softener recharges itself with only softened water. 3) I haven't noticed a drop in the salt levels yet, my tank is huge, but I have noticed about 5 inches of hydrogen peroxide missing from the 3 foot tall column. The system was installed 4 days ago, and I live together with only my wife. We each take one shower a day. We probably ran 2 loads of dishes and 1 load of laundry. I want to have a smart breaker panel installed so that I can measure how much electricity my well pump and pressurizer are using. The drinking water is delicious though, and all of our water has no trace of odor anymore.

    • @ajwilson1966
      @ajwilson1966 Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Helen, Puragain clearly is a company who puts their sticker on water filter systems. They are not a manufacturer. They clearly are pushing rental systems, which if you are on a budget may work well for you. But let's be clear the manifold on the reverse osmosis system is clearly made in China or Taiwan because that design is not manufactured in America. The system is not BPA free. And lastly, I don't see anything discussing NSF 58 or NSF 44 certifications. You may want to reach out to them and ask these questions.
      Lastly, please note their statement on their whole home system .. "Filtersorb SP3 media where it undergoes a process called Nucleation Assisted Crystallization (NAC)". This means they are not softening the water, they are conditioning the water. Filtersorb will not remove the rock from your water. So you need to be clear with what your goals are.... If you want to make your hair better, skin better, cleaner clothing, remove white film from dishes, shower, then you need a water softener.

    Very good video. As time passes, more and more "conditioner" sales will be made using such technologies like catalytic processors and TAC, but softeners are ion based actually removing hardness. Processors are great as long as the customer knows the differences.
    There are trade-offs with everything regarding water conditioning.
    Big box softeners made in China? I thought they were made in Wisconsin. Maybe parts made in China?

      Its rather simple, just go to the NSF.org website and enter their information. Then you will find out if the product is certified by National Sanitation Foundation. Regarding their claim you will have to call Culligan to understand if they are misleading the customer or not.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I am glad Erik you saved some $. There are 4 professional companies out there and Culligan is one. Rainsoft, Kinnetico and Ecowater are the others. Whey you purchased your Aqua Sure - You are the one that has to monitor your water quality before and after the system! If you are a do it yourself person, then that works great! Just keep your hardness test kit close and test it after a few days to make sure it is properly filtering your water. TEST hot and cold. It should be 0 grains hard! Also set your calendar to really check the quality of the filter material in 2 year increments. They use a Chinese Made Filter Material which tends to go within a few years. You can then replace it yourself at that mark. Testing your water is critical for knowing when this needs to be done. FYI Culligan is the manufacturer and they have local dealers. Maybe in your area you got a poor quality dealer or a poor quality rep who visited you. Good LUCK and thanks for the note!

    Is a water softener synonymous with a water purifyer? A long time ago I remember my grandmother's water tasted terrible (maybe it was brackish?) and she had a water conditioner that made it taste much better but also made it ultra soft. I recall feeling like I couldn't rinse the soap off my hands. Can softeners be tuned to not create such soft water? Thanks.

    • @Erikpdx
      @Erikpdx Před rokem +1

      No. Purifiers use something like a charcoal filter to remove impurities and can improve water hardness a bit, but softeners use salt to "swap out" calcium and lime from the water to eliminate hardness. Most people don't leave comments on BBB pages if they're happy with the company, so "0" reviews doesn't surprise me. I generally read the complaints to gauge the companies performance. I often see invalid complaints and use that a gauge to the company. What's surprising is that they have "0" complaints for a company that's been in business for 3 years. You missed one of the most important features the Kinetico has over every water softener on the market. Soft water regeneration. And the only way you get soft water regeneration is by having a dual tank system. Every single tank electric water softener uses untreated water during the backwashing cycle. Kinetico systems are the world's most efficient softeners and use 70% less water and salt during the backwashing/regeneration cycle.
    I'll never buy an electric water softener again. And I'm also not worried about whether it's serviceable or not by other companies or that I myself can't service it. Kinetico has over 3700 dealerships in the US alone.

    Here is a ChatGPT summary of the transcript that cuts out a lot of the cruft in the video:
    The video provides a detailed comparison of different water softener options available in 2023. It starts with an introduction to the complex water softener industry and the presenter, Drew, aims to simplify the selection process by categorizing manufacturers into three groups: big box retailers, sticker companies, and professional grade manufacturers. For each category, he evaluates them based on warranty, American manufacturing, NSF 44 listing, serviceability, and pressure loss.
    - Big Box Retailers: These include brands like GE, available at Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. Pros include lower price and small footprint. Cons include short warranty periods, not being made in America, lack of NSF 44 certification, difficult serviceability, and potential for reduced water pressure.
    - Sticker Companies: This category has a vast number of brands like Pelican and Aquasana, offering products that are often assembled from parts made elsewhere, frequently China. The focus here is on the importance of warranty, the misleading claim of "Made in America," and the importance of NSF 44 certification. These products generally have better serviceability than big box options but may still present issues with water pressure.
    - Professional Grade: Four main companies are highlighted - Culligan, Rainsoft, Kinetico, and EcoWater. These options tend to offer better warranties and features but at a higher price. The discussion includes the importance of NSF 44 certification, American manufacturing, serviceability, and water pressure implications. EcoWater is noted for its comprehensive warranties, NSF 44 listing, and being a choice of Costco due to its reliability and quality.
    Throughout, Drew emphasizes the importance of understanding your needs based on your living situation, the significance of warranties, the value of NSF 44 certification for health and safety, and the potential costs associated with installation and service. The aim is to educate the viewer on making an informed decision when choosing a water softener.

      Kinetico hands down

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  Před 8 měsíci

      So I do like Kinetico... However the drawback there is that they take filter material and break it into two small tanks. In high flow cases we have seen Calcium Creep. This means that if you use a lot of water it slips by the filter. In addition, their valve allows no programming features. So that means when we want to make an adjustment for challenging Water situations we cannot. In addition, it does not offer any diagnostics. So if you have a leaky toilet or something running water, this water softener will not let you know. It is very important to know this information when diagnosing issues with water softeners. Lastly, you also want to check to make sure that the model you are buying has NSF 44 certification. Have a great day.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  Před 8 měsíci

      I do like the Ecowater and Chandler products. You will find Eagle Water offers NSF 44 certification on all of their water softeners. This certification helps prove to a average consumer that the unit will in fact consistently remove the rock and the radium from your water. Thank you so much for your note.

    • @nickaroni87
      @nickaroni87 Před 8 měsíci

      @@AngelWaterthere is a wide variety of sizes within the kinetico softeners. You said two small tanks. The benefit to the twin tank design is one, clean water regeneration versus dirty water regeneration with single tank electric systems. And they go off of water usage. It actually doesn't even matter how big or small the resin tanks are, as long as the tanks are regenerating at the right time. Plus they offer a continuous supply of soft treated water 24/7 7 days a week. These systems also don't need adjusting all that much either. So there is no need for electronic computers to change settings. They have a disc in their non-electric valve that treats a certain range of hardness per disc. They also use 75% less salt and water during the regeneration cycle which is much better for the environment and not wasting a ton of water and salt. This matters, especially if you're on municipal water. Being on a septic system, you don't want a large amount of salt being dumped into your septic. On paper, the kinetico systems are the world's most efficient softeners and they have been since 1970 when they became a company. And if you have a leaky toilet, I would suggest the homeowner get that fixed instead of worrying about whether they have a kinetico system or not 😅
