That's my assessment as well. CR7 is a show boat. A very skilled show boat for sure but, it's like 'look at me' Messi is humble. A man selfless enough to give up penalties and free kicks to his team mates. I much prefer humble. But, when it's time,,, can dribble from mid field, past half the side,,,, everyone in the place (especially the keeper) knowing what's coming, he's no longer humble. Messi already has a world cup. Argentina won the U20 back in 2005 ;) But what Argentina needs to win a world cup is a working team and a capable coach like Simeone or Pochettino. Messi surely is able to decide a game (which he has proven time and time again) but he can't win an entire world cup on his own. A man's shoulders can only carry so much. Judging by the current stats, Argentina without Messi won't even qualify for 2018. Which is the main problem. They have all these great players but they don't play well together.
Sven Schwingel the Argentinian team has great attacker but the worst midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers. Messi could cover up for his teammates in the attack but he certainly couldn't play as a defender and a goalkeeper too. Besides, aguero and higuain have always let down the team, wasting the easiest chances and having their weakest performances. But i believe a great coach will be able to fix most of the problems in the team, but the ARG federation is corrupted, they choose the worst coaches for the team. Everything is against Messi, but if he really wants to win the WC he must step up and take the lead in choosing his teammates and the coach otherwise no WC to be won.
I do think that guys like Otamendi and Mascherano - although being older - are capable defenders and can be put to good use under the guidance of a good coach. And then there is Dybala, Angel Correa and other first-league players from the european top leagues. They need a real coach and time to practice together. I do think that Tata Martino wasn't that bad, at least he brought the Albiceleste into the WC final where they only lost because the German team had the better luck on their side. It could have easily ended the other way around if Higuain would have scored in that 1 on 1 against Neuer. Don't get me wrong, as a German, I naturally was happy for our national team. But ever since I saw Maradona play, I have lots of love for the Albiceleste as well. And there is nothing that I would wish more than Leo lifting the world cup trophy. Because in my eyes, he truly deserves it after all he has given the world of football. But you are right about the AFA. It's in such a state that they can't even pay their security guys.

Messi already has a world cup. Argentina won the U20 back in 2005 ;)
But what Argentina needs to win a world cup is a working team and a capable coach like Simeone or Pochettino. Messi surely is able to decide a game (which he has proven time and time again) but he can't win an entire world cup on his own. A man's shoulders can only carry so much.
Judging by the current stats, Argentina without Messi won't even qualify for 2018. Which is the main problem. They have all these great players but they don't play well together.
Sven Schwingel the Argentinian team has great attacker but the worst midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers. Messi could cover up for his teammates in the attack but he certainly couldn't play as a defender and a goalkeeper too.
Besides, aguero and higuain have always let down the team, wasting the easiest chances and having their weakest performances.
But i believe a great coach will be able to fix most of the problems in the team, but the ARG federation is corrupted, they choose the worst coaches for the team.
Everything is against Messi, but if he really wants to win the WC he must step up and take the lead in choosing his teammates and the coach otherwise no WC to be won.
I do think that guys like Otamendi and Mascherano - although being older - are capable defenders and can be put to good use under the guidance of a good coach. And then there is Dybala, Angel Correa and other first-league players from the european top leagues. They need a real coach and time to practice together.
I do think that Tata Martino wasn't that bad, at least he brought the Albiceleste into the WC final where they only lost because the German team had the better luck on their side. It could have easily ended the other way around if Higuain would have scored in that 1 on 1 against Neuer.
Don't get me wrong, as a German, I naturally was happy for our national team. But ever since I saw Maradona play, I have lots of love for the Albiceleste as well. And there is nothing that I would wish more than Leo lifting the world cup trophy. Because in my eyes, he truly deserves it after all he has given the world of football.

R9 for Brazil is the greatest player I've seen, he was simply amazing for what we got out of him due to his injuries and he also won a world cup on his own finishing with the golden boot.
