    Pax Dei is a vast, social sandbox MMO inspired by the legends of the medieval era. Here, myths are real, ghosts exist, and magic is unquestioned. In this immense, open-world playground, you choose the role you want to play.

    I played solo this week. It's definitely a slow slog, my 2-plot house and crafting area were almost complete. I was managing lower tier matts for tailoring, leatherworking, metal (started making better weapons, did not make a dent in armour smithing yet because my leatherworking was dragging), and cooking benches. I did not make it to the alchemy or jewel crafting benches. Woodworking skill I got up to 21, mining close behind though I never once saw a copper or tin node in my gathering rounds. Hunting... not nearly enough animals out there to skin and I was in a zone with maybe 5 other people running around after the first few days, and of course, way too much meat, fat and innards!
    Now I know everyone keeps saying, "don't play solo". Well, here's the tea. I'm 51, I have a full time job and a family. The few free hours I have in the evening I do not want to spend working for someone else. I do have a close knit group of gaming friends, we range from mid 40s-50s and we're all tired and grumpy. lol. We play theme park MMO's together (we're all X WoW Raiders from Vanilla days), or crafting/survival games (Valheim, Conan Exiles, Icarus, Minecraft, etc) and we always end up doing our own thing because scheduling while adulting is hard.
    I'm not sure if Pax Dei is planning on having us set up shops to sell things to others, that would be neat. I have no plans on PVP'ing and will avoid those zones like the plague, I feel I could have fun existing in this game (life sim?) and selling to travellers on their way to and fro. What I would find helpful is being able to step away from a crafting bench instead of processing something while staring at my phone, even if I were with a clan of 100 people, how is staring at my phone while I'm supposed to be playing a game feel good? That one has me concerned. Ok enough ramblings. I hope they figure it out, I'd like to try Pax Dei some more when they push EA. =)

    11:20 they could make it that crafting stations have their own inventory where you can only put the corresponding mats. Maybe you could then upgrade that station so the crafting time would be reduced and/or the recipes would require less material and/or it would increase its inventory size.

    Crafting convenience feature: When you install a crafting workstation, it has a radius around it, within which any chest's contents are available to the crafter, without having to remember which chest you put it in, and manually pull stuff out of chests into your inventory.

    I am looking for a game where u can't master everything making your choices matter. I am looking for a game like pen and paper D&D where you need the party and a community to progress. I want a game that doesn't hold my hand every step of the way. I want a game that u don't max out in one month and Finnish in a year.

    I will love to see in the game: changeable colors of outfit, clan(guild) crests and banners, guarding, pet and companions DOGS! fishing boats, fish traps, gallows, carts pull by oxen, breedable domestic animals, cultivating crops and vegetables, weather diversity (snow, rain, storms, lightnings and thunders, strong winds...) more varieties of a feral animals (crocodiles, lions, buffalos, birds,) Tents, caravans, jurtas, bamboo as a crafting material, ...and much, much bigger storage chests.)

  • @uberrod
    @uberrod Před 2 měsíci +2

    It took me days to realize how to create storage containers. The two step process really threw me off. All I initially saw was just prop items you could make which did nothing. I found crafting so tedious. It took me days to create a small hovel and put 4 roof sections on it. Sure the game looks really good, but despite the depth of the crafting system it was too micromanaging in terms of crafting output. It took so long to create things that in Valheim would be crafted in minutes. 1 hour for iron smelting? 20 minutes for coal kiln?
    I think the plots should be square or rectangular. Tough to create square stone foundations when the edge is curved.
    The game almost forces you to work in a group in order to make any headway is building anything.

    The crafting is overly grindy, it takes a very very long time to be able to get involved in a combat situation against ai and wildlife. Especially from a solo experience. A week in from an adult gamer with responsibilities where you aren't NO LIFING it. Just unlocking the pottery keln and being able to successfully craft planks from heartwood. The second Alpha will be over before I even am able to craft some chainmail. There should be a increase in XP to level up your crafting or a decrease in resources required.
    Now saying this, I do REALLY enjoy the game, it looks beautiful, the crafting components look extremely detailed, the stone and masonry work looks phenomenal, the environment looks emersive and the lightings gives the perfect amount of atmosphere while working on my base off the river shore line.
    I will get this game there is no doubt about that, but the balancing needs improvement between crafting resources to be able to get involved in combat even at the entry level of defending yourself from wildlife.

      Big agree. Tons of potential but almost impossible to play solo. I understand that as a solo player, I probably won't be doing dungeon raids and pvping on an even playing field with others, but it shouldn't take me a month of playing the game to be able to kill a bear. :)

  • @willsteuer1621

    I play solo and I got to play all 7 days of the alpha-2 test.The crafting system and crafting progression is designed to be a time sink, and it is brutal. The developers designed the game to keep players busy for weeks and months playing the crafting game. Recycle and Salvage would counter-act the time sink design of the crafting system. The game needs an economy and an AUCTION HOUSE. We need Fishing, I love fishing. On day 6 of the alpha-2, I was able to craft the basic linen pants and jacket and finally got rid of my beginner jerkin. I also was finally able to craft a basic iron axe only to find the basic iron axe will only chop the same trees that the stone axe cuts. On day 7, I was able to craft my first pair of shoes.

    Why can't you use any meat in a stew?

    1. Its a european developer so the vibes are european-medieval which I like.
    2. PD is meant to be played in a group or guild, You can't craft everyting yourself.
    3. PD still seemed half finished, farming, farm animals, mounts, trading and some more social features are still missing.
    4. Yes, I hope they re-work and re-balance the crafting.

    I've been solo nolifeing this Alpha2 test and gotta say I was very confused the couple of first days. But once I got in to it I grew to love the grind more and more.
    Hopefully they don't remove the grind as they tend to do In other games when some complain about the grind expecting to have endgame gear after a week. The building system is amazing and the feeling you get when you've really worked your ar*e off to get that iron logging axe and can go on cutting bigger trees is awesome. I'd say big GG for Pax Dei.
    The combat is bad as we all know but I don't care, that's how good I thing everything else is.
    Also finally 😂 the first day or to of the test the game felt very floaty when moving right and left but it seem like ut was some server thing as eventually apart from some lag from time to time it felt nice to run around in the world exploring.
    I can't wait for early access ❤

    • @Danneh
      @Danneh  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I do agree, the grind is good as long as its fun and enjoyable at the moment its really cumbersome and tedious! Big GG indeed, I can't wait to see what they say after the alpha and their plans moving forward!

  • @GrimnirsGrudge
    @GrimnirsGrudge Před 2 měsíci +1

    I played about 70 hours solo to see how bad the grind would actually be. The grind wasn't bad. The core gameplay loops were bad. Crafting was about as basic as you can get. Hit button, watch bar move, grind crap endlessly. Building did not have a single feature that was better than any other survival basebuilding game. The only thing that kept it from being the worst building system was allowing shapes to clip through each other. The lighting at night made me want to log off until the sun came back up, it wasn't immersive, just weirdly painful on my eyes as they tried to adjust to the transitive lighting effects and vignetting darkened blur around the screen. It felt like I was having a stroke and my vision was cutting out, not pleasant. Combat was the worst I've seen... after scrolling through the games I've played on Steam for a while I couldn't actually find a game that was worse. Outward is probably the closest, but it's still significantly better. Both ranged and melee combat are impressively bad. While the geography of the world was passable (as long as you don't look at any water feature), the programmatic placement of resources became apparent the more you went on. The static spawns of animals and nodes became very quickly farmable, and the placement appears to be random or noise generated, showing up in ridiculous cliff faces that couldn't be reached. For having a relatively small selection of gear, there were tons of clipping issues in clothing/armor. The cape needs to be present for every animator working on an animation, because it has a life of its own.
    I don't see this game fixing the long list of issues that I haven't touched on. The most depressing part is reading through their Discord and 95% of people are cheerleading the development team with the occasional person with feedback getting drowned out. It almost feels like malicious encouragement to make this game as bad as possible.

    Anyway... Pax Dei needs atleast 1 more year of good cooking all the points are " basic" things that need to be done ... But still What is the END game ? i was playing solo ... i cant do shit in the game :) just farming food and stone.. Killing a Bear solo was not even possible!

    • @Danneh
      @Danneh  Před 2 měsíci

      True! I think we wanted to just make sure they cover the basics as many games fail that these days.. then boom, pop some great content loops in

      @@Danneh yeah and since the game is running on unreal 5 ... even if it takes them 12 more months game will still look pretty good next year... but allot of things need to be fix to make it a good game.. I dont want another New World .. what had a great base... but the Devs are just incompented to make something out of it!

    When I asked if we'd see more updates on combat they stated no and that the combat we saw here is the combat for early access. 100% killed the game for me. I have no interest in playing with combat this bad.

      @Danneh  Před 2 měsíci +2

    There will never be a game as good as DAoC I fear. I know this is a sandbox game, I have many hours on Rust, Scum, Conan Exiles etc. Albeit very petty, Pax Dei's crafting system to me is a little dull, I'm not sure if there is a way to dismantle crafted items for a little return or not but I don't like the idea of having to craft craft and craft items to skill that particular crafting skill and having a chest full of iron blades. I mean I understand why, to draw out the game and crafting which to me personally is pointless. I have mixed opinions so far, if there is a crappy end game and lack of proper PVP it might be just another grind fest for no return.

    Seems too me that there is a degree of fantasy in the air here. Think real world. for instance --- How much can a person carry? Automation is only available in modern factories, not in Medieval workshops, making items over and over is tedious, it always was, get used to it. your grandfather had to. Just think to yourself.... how would I do this in my shed, forget other unrealistic computer games and celebrate that someone else has you spoilt children
