- Hello and welcome to my channel. My name is Cliff and I'm an Australian gem cutter. In this episode I will be faceting Pink Sapphire from Madagascar in the shape of a "Trillion Design"
Email - vintagetimegems@aol.com
Yes yes yes!!! My favourite cut by far. Congratulations Cliff.
Hi Chris, I really like this Trillion design. It works well on most gems.
I was a full grown adult when I learnt sapphire isn't only blue, which is funny because its my birthstone but I never liked the deep navy blue sapphire you see everywhere. I don't like pink either but this is still very beautiful, you have cut it into a vibrant stunning gem and made pink classy, great work my friend 👍🏼🌟
Hi Tripping on Rocks, I like the pink and lilac gems. Like you not a huge fan of the real dark blues, but a light sky blue makes for a beautiful gem.
Man that's pretty... And it's just impure aluminum oxide! Amazing how you and other experienced cutters can bring out the beauty of these little rocks. Have a good one!
Excellent work, my favorite style of faceting.
Thanks Vincent.
Nice... nicee.. veryyy very nice... i like it
Thank you.
Very nice looking gemstone and cut...a little pink panther that still can roar! Pats to Jaws and hugs to you Cliff, Susanne.
Thanks Susanne. This sapphire turned out really nice. Regards Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems Yes it did! 💎
Wow thats a huge return, excellent Cliff.
Hi Tim, it was a great return. The rough gem was perfectly shaped for this design. Also, there was a low crown and a shallow pavilion in this design which was perfect. If I faceted SRB it would have been a 3mm gem.
@@VintageTimeGems Great work Cliff
Beautiful cut, Cliff! 😀 Thanks for sharing your fine work.
Thanks John.
Perfect quartzo rosa!
Beautiful video.
Thank you.
Very nice presentation of a cut one doesn't often see. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Bill. I'll be faceting this design more in the future.
Another fine teenie you've cut. Well done. I do like the cut and will have to keep it in mind. I love the simplicity of it.
Hi Ricky, yep another tiny one 5mm is still a lot bigger than the 3mm garnet. From memory you set gems. Is a Trillion difficult to set in a ring? Cheers Cliff
They are a little tougher to set of course it depends on the setting too. Believe this or not I have a harder time with marquis. I dislike setting marquis. lol
Great work as usual, That cut was my first "successful gem" (after many attempts and watching all your video's). I've done many gems since, but the first success is always special.I only used smokey quartz, I might revisit that design in something more colourful like yours, it's a very beautiful gem, look forward to your next video.
Thanks Paul... This is a great design. Cheers
Thanks Cliff, beautiful work and fabulous commentary as always.
Thanks Spidersinspace....Glad you enjoyed the video.
Awesome and outstanding balance
Thank you Sherdia.
Beautiful result especially when the rough did not look all that promising, you retained more of the gem than I expected.
I don't facet but if I did, my result would have been a grain of sand.
Thanks Paul, The rough gem produced quite a nice gem with minimal loss. Often there are issues when faceting, but with this gem it was smooth sailing all the way. Regards Cliff
Beautiful!
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you.
Master cutter , stunning. Thanks
Thank you.
Hi Cliff! This is so very very helpful to me! I have so many tiny 1-2ct spinels right now, and when they came in I got so worried I wouldn't be able to do anything with them because of their size. Which is irritating because I'm sure you know how expensive spinel is these days. Thank you so much for doing this video!
What a beautiful outcome ,after a highly painstaking job
Thank you.
Oh my gosh it’s gorgeous ,such a pretty cut for it too 😀
Thanks Christine. The cut worked out well. Regards Cliff
Another great video what a beautiful stone.
Thanks RCFlyer.
the color is a lot stronger after the cut ! and it's padparadscha color, well done
Thank you.
Normally I'm not really fond of pink, but in this case I just have to make an exception. Beautiful gem, Cliff!
Thanks Kathy, the light pinks are and light blues are my favourite.
I m learning new ideas from you. your work is just awesome and outstanding 👍😍
Thank you.
Awesome video champion, very educational.
Thank you.
The pink color really stands out after cutting.
Thanks, the color of this gem came out better than anticipated.
I would LOVE to be able to work on some Sapphire but it's hard to source affordably. But I am considering contacting "your friend" from Tim's Adventures.
Another thing I'd love is the ability to work with such tiny gems. I have an old Graves Mk 1 faceting machine that needs Spindle Bearings to reduce slop but I don't have small enough Dop Sticks to cut anything less than around 7mm dia. Unfortunately, this means most of the rough I find (of fine gems) is too small for my setup. What a shame.
Sapphire is always expensive. In my opinion a bit of a overpay as there is so much 1-3 carat sapphires around. I reckon Zircon is better.
@@VintageTimeGems I love cutting Zircon. It is a tremendously, scintillating gemstone. I have cut a few and hope to cut many more very soon. That said, I have since ordered a brand new Ultra-Tec "VL Classic Faceting Machine (Digital)" which should arrive in 6 more weeks (ships on Sept. 23rd, 2023) and just ordered my first two genuine (Umba) Sapphires. One is a Pink and one is Purple. They are both very small but I also ordered several tiny dops for tiny stones. I intend to practice cutting tiny gemstones using less expensive rough including Lab-Made Sapphire until I get my technique perfected using this new faceting machine.
Thank You Cliff for all your inspiration. I essentially learned how to facet by watching your videos (and some others). I live in an area where there are no other facetors to learn from so You and U-Toob have been my instructors.
Keep up your fantastic work and videos. I look forward to seeing many more. I have watched every video you have uploaded and will continue to do the same. Take good care Friend. 😊
Exquisite!
Thank you Trueherbsnman.
That colour really came out amazingly in the end, beautiful work! Couldn't have guessed it'd be that pretty, just looking at the rough at the start.
Do you ever cut more or less opaque corundums/sapphires? Would you be able to get a "star" to show from an opaque gem? I've mined some beautiful corundums in Finland, and I am super curious about how they might look.
Some day, I'm going to learn this craft too. Thanks for always being a wonderful inspiration!
Thanks, I usually don't facet less opaque gems as I like scintillation in gems . Hopefully one day you will get the chance to learn to facet.
One of my favorites 😀😀😍
Thank you
Wow! I can't believe I missed the notification that you posted the video. What a beauty. A sweet tiny little gem. I can't believe how beautiful this Sapphire turned out. As I was watching I kept thinking it was going to be heavily included and kept wondering if I could cut something so tiny. It was cool to see the Trillion cut come together. I have to try one now 🙃. I love the color and how it is both soft and bright and sparkly. It would look great in a setting. It looks delicate but Sapphires are so strong. How well would this hold up in a ring setting? It's points on the corners would have to be supported in the setting I would imagine.
Wonderful gem Cliff. Good job Jaws in helping to fetch that Sapphire.
Thanks Tam. This gem has no inclusion. This is a great design. So many Trillions about, I would facet this again and again.
Wow this is just stunningly beautiful 😻
Thank you so much!!
The orange peel effect, is caused by sapphires that have been heat treated at very high temperatures. When you polish heat treated sapphires, you can often get the orange peel effect.
Thank you so much
Thanks
Wow !! Great video and awesome pink shapire..Congrats bro ! Best regards from Indonesia
Thank you.
very nice
Thank you.
💎⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍👍👍👍👍🇧🇷
Thanks Valdir.
Very informative :)
Que hermoso diamante rosa,..
Thank you. Have a nice day.
I am just getting interested in faceting gems, I was wondering if you could post a video or send me a link to a video showing how to read a pattern for cutting them? If you already have one up I would love the link :-)
There are several videos around, Check out Bopies gems.
awesome stone i have a imperial topaz i would like to cut if it can be its 5787 cts
Hi Cliff
Excellent job.
I would like to send you some rough stones. Tanzanian tanga pink zircon and brown zircon and red garnet. possibly you may cut these. could I post these to you?.
Thanks Brij
Hi Brij, if you look in the description you can email me. Regards Cliff
I have manual facetor i m doing my cutting in old way
Hello! I know this is 3 years later, but any chance is there someplace I may purchase the pink sapphire in that natural/organic state at time marker 2:13(before the faceting)?
I have to 2kg
👍👍👍👍✌
Hi mate, love your channel very informative. I fossick here in Tasmania and am interested in buying my first machine. My question to you is how do you determine the centre point on the pavilion? Obviously to me do you simply cut the angles and guess the centre or.... also the depth of the stone, does that make a difference? Thanks in advance Cliff
Cliff can I know how much total wastege to the stone??
If you know, can you pls share how are these gemstones found? If they're found directly open in a mine or inside a quartz or something?
They are found in a mine.
Do they not make triangular dops? That seems like it might be a useful thing to do.
I haven't seem Triangular dops, but that doesn't mean that there are none available. Cheers Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems thanks, you are the best! (Literally. Haven't seen better on CZcams.)
Hey Cliff! Quick question: Do you ever cut diamonds? If not, why?
Hi Conner, I never cut Diamonds. My machine is not designed to facet a Diamonds.
Will you ever make more videos on aliexpress gemstones? How about recreating movie gem cuts
Not really sure what you mean? Could you give more detail? Cheers
Muito bom .
Thank you.
How much in one carat?
What is the background music, Great Video
