    There are tons of potential uses for this like if you're buying new furniture and want to see how it looks, you can scan it and place it in your room via AR. App is 3dappscanner ( not sponsored).

    • @staidey5994
      @staidey5994 Před 2 lety +13

      Samsung used TOF in Galaxy S10 and S20 lines for front facing camera. It is similar to what Lidar does, but the way it does it is different. Lidar uses pulse lasers, while TOF creates depth maps based on light detection. Outcome is still the same, a 3D replica of footage. Sadly, they abandoned it with S21.

    • @ESCcrasci
      @ESCcrasci Před 2 lety +7

      @Jared Stimpson Unfortunately little to no apps help in harnessing the power of the sensors sadly. But if any exist, it may have compatibility issues. If support is given from the factory like apple, it will simply be awesome. But now that I phones are coming with it, Samsung's may follow

    Furniture apps that let you visualise furniture with AR would really benefit from native support for this. (e.g. IKEA)

    You don't need LIDAR( yes it's an acronym so should be capitalized) to 3D scan. You can shoot video with a regular camera and use photogrammetry to generate the model.

    • @Honeypot-x9s

      Takes a lot of images and a lot of time to compute and calculate it though. LiDAR and/or RTK information is highly recommended with most professional photogrammetry.

    You can also do a similar thing to this on smartphones (or any device with a camera) that don't have a Lidar sensor (doesn't using if your device runs IOS or Android) with Photogrammetry as long as your phone has a decent working camera, since photogrammetry basically involves taking a bunch of photographs of an object or area from a bunch of different angles and then you feed those photos into a clever program that stitches them all together and used that information to create a 3d model (though it is much trickier to do this with images of some glossy or transparent objects since reflections and the like in the images can confuse the software, which is not an issue if you use Lidar with it like shown in this video since it doesn't exclusively rely on image data)
    You could also use a DSLR or Mirror less camera to take the photos and then use a program on a computer to get a higher quality result (since DSLRs still usually have better image quality than most smartphones).

    It is used in a native app, just not for 3d modeling. In camera, portraits and the cinematic mode on video (I think it's called cinematic), it uses lidar to get depth info and add a fake lens blur. Actually works great on portrait at least, objects further and further away get more and more blurred instead of just a blur filter on everything except the person
