    You are the best! Never used Ardour before ... I was beginning to think it was too arduous (bad joke) to add in a LV2 plugin but now Surge is showing up on my Raspberry Pi 4. You are the best!

    @JHoermann // Linux audio production
    Do you think that you could make a video that addresses midi, as it relates to instruments? I have combed countless forums and read through the Ardour manual again and again, and I have not been able to find any PROPER documentation or explanations for how to get any external midi instruments working in Ardour. If you could please expand on the installation and use of things like Carla (I am sure this is useful, but I have no clue what it is, applicably) and how to do things like use zynaddsubfx in Ardour? This would be so very helpful. I almost have a functioning studio, I just need to maximize my midi keyboard, and this means, I need to know how to wrap it is instruments, or something like that... I am dying to record, please help me please.... Please

      lightning571 I'm doing some Midi stuff in the different videos but could be good to make a whole video about it. If you've a particular question just ask.

      Mistypix Studios Should be there by default I think I didn't change anything but check the view section on the top. This bar is also the same as the one in der Mixer View.

    Why does everyone else see awesome graphical interfaces to their plugins while mine are just windows with sliders?

    •  Před 3 lety

      You may be missing some libraries in your operating system. In some cases you you also need to select the custom GUI of the plugin to be shown. Someone else might be able to better explain this and help you further. Check these resources for example: wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/start

    Is there a way to hear the plug ins while recording? I'm new to Ardour, I have been using Cubase and Logic and I'm still learning the interface.

    • @onikudaki1000
      @onikudaki1000 Před 7 lety +2

      Check if your interface does hardware based monitoring. In that case you need to turn that off in the mixer of the interface. Then in Ardour 5 go to Edit -> Preferences -> Signal Flow and set "Record monitoring handled by" to Ardour. Make sure you have a low latency setting and you should be fine.

    Hi, I try to watch your yt videos but when I have ardour open in another session on my pc the yt video just display a moving arrow (denoting wait i think). I then cancel ardour and YT works OK, I restart ardour and yt video goes into wait state again. *I am so confused! - is it a memory prob?* Can you help at all please? thanx {pj}

      Hey! So the problem is that CZcams runs with pulseaudio and Ardour with Jack audio server. So you need the pulseaudio-module-jack package. Have a look at my other video about how to prepare Linux for audio production.

    Why are you putting your dynamic and eq plugins after the fader? Your post fade effects should really only be for aux sends to a bus whether it be effects or sub-mix. There are times when the use of a modulation plugin might work better post fade, but if you are changing your levels, it will have a dramatic effect on your compressors and eq's. Click above the "fader" button to insert plug-ins pre-fader.

    • @JHoermann
      @JHoermann  Před 7 lety

      David Beahm You are probably right. Didn't consider this in the video. But I don't know how dramatic the effect really is. I'll test this.

    • @Moontrip87
      @Moontrip87 Před 7 lety

      At the end of the day, it is about the subjective effect you are going for and ultimately, no true right or wrong. But in regards to inserting a compressor post fader, you are going to be hitting the gain harder when you increase the fader. Some engineers add it post in order to use it as a limiter and if the dynamic range is not that significant, it would be ok post. I'd say anywhere between 95-99% of the time, EQ and compression will be pre-fade. I honestly play with reverbs, choruses, and other modulation effects between pre and post to see what sounds better or I send to a Reverb or Delay Aux channel and send post fade; which will allow you to send multiple tracks to the same effect cutting down on the overall processing utilization.

    Hi. Sorry the stupid question.... I have a Digital Piano with midi out... and a m-audio to plug in... so... i wanna use the midi interface with some app in linux (i use linux)... so with Ardour, i can record my piano and use the midi to change also the sounds??? (i dont speak english, hope this understood) Thanks.

    • @JHoermann
      @JHoermann  Před 7 lety

      erdosain9 Yes you can record midi as you would do it with audio and then playback with different instrument plugins.

    Hi! I've a very stupid question. How do you add the mixer screen at left of channels editor?
    The only way to get that it's in the top right corner, with the button "mixer".
    I can't figure out how put the mixer in the same position as you.
    v5.12
    Thanks!!

    • @dizzy328
      @dizzy328 Před 6 lety

      prolly your screen is too small. Ardour needs a big screen to show the mixer screen like in the video

    Hi - I have calf installed, and I can open it up using Carla rack, however, I dont want to use a rack. I want to use those Calf plugins directly in my DAW. And I am not even sure where the Calf plugins are saved (I installed it by referring to one of your other videos). Do you know how I can use Calf in my DAW without the "middleman" i.e. Carla rack?

    • @JHoermann
      @JHoermann  Před 4 lety +1

      Calf Plugins are in the LV2 Format so your DAW needs to be able to host LV2 Plugins. Otherwise just use Carla.

      @@JHoermann Thanks for the quick response. I am using the free version of Waveform - so im assuming it can only host VST or LADSPA because I dont see an option to scan for LV2 plugins. Do you know if Ardour supports LV2?

    • @JHoermann
      @JHoermann  Před 4 lety

      @@Rabixter You're right Waveform doesn't support LV2. Yes Ardour supports LV2.
