As someone who is part of the viking reenactment in Denmark, this was fun to watch - wouldn't recommend doing it this way to build a shield for fighting, as it would be quite heavy in the long run... But as I said, it was fun to watch how it could be made in the modern era 😊
When I was apart of a Viking living history group (it was more like a drinking club) those that made shields just grabbed some box store 3/8" 4'X4' plywood... fast, dirty and practically no major investment beyond the center boss.
What a fun project. I’ll tell my wife her kitchen island is on hold, found something else to build. Seriously though, since you have the rawhide you could have made your own glue and abandon that modern wood glue. Just put the rawhide in water and heat for a while and you have hide glue. Just like the Viking would have made

You have some of the coolest projects and your Viking shield has to top the list! It turned out great!! Such a creative venture! I have to ask... did you replace Buddy's rawhide bone that you used in your project?? He seemed to be a little protective of his property!! Lol!! It must have taken a long time to make one of these shields back in Viking times. Poor Buddy, I can't believe you took his bone! =D
Love your show I always learn something. I do have a small complaint, the sound needs a little work. Your voice is low and the music is loud but keep up the good work.

Exactly, and the metal bowl can be reused for several shields (the wood get worn out during the season if you fight weekly 😂)
