It is not a favorite watch in my collection, it is not the prettiest, or most refined, but it is a watch I would trust my life with.
There is something about these Eco-Drive promasters that makes you wanna believe they can survive it all…

this was really well put. this watch is indeed a watch first, a no-nonsense practical watch. it's not pretty so you won't be tempted to baby it, scratches don't show that much on the brushed case, big crown at 4 that is easy to use but not uncomfortable, solid feeling so it makes you trust it and it's iso certified.
even its details just make it a better watch like when you get a light reflection on the crystal the indices on the dial and bezel reflect the light too and it becomes even more legible, on most watches reflections are bad, but here it doesn't matter.
and it does make you feel like a man, like a regular everyday normal man (as the song goes)

This was exactly the message I was trying to share… There are watches, just like this one, that are made with a specific intention, not to look more expensive than it is or anything like that… but be what the manufacturer says it is… there is something strangely honest about these Promasters… I really like mine…

Wonderful review, and I've added you to the ranks of my favourite watch youtubers. As for the Promaster: It is pretty in its own special way. I love the unique design, which stands out from many diving watches on the market. The shown red Promaster Eco-Drive is on my must-have list.
BTW: The G-Shock GW-5610U modded with a metal case and bracelet from aliexpress makes me feel a little bit … adult-ish :-)

I love my Promaster Diver. You are right in that it just about the ultimate in a no nonsense, tough, reliable watch. And it looks good! I like the 60 click bezels. I've never known why I need 120 clicks. I only use 60! I suppose it's a "feel" thing. You should check out the Promaster Tough. I think it may be my favorite watch. Titanium, drilled lugs, sapphire, ecodrive, nuclear lume and massive legibility.

I have the Unite with Blue version that i bought after i completed the Advanced Open Water course in june 2023. Since the i wore it in all my dives (more than 80 dives in several countries/seas/oceans). It’s the diver as it’s accurate, legible, cheap and beautiful P.s i love your reviews

Love those Citizen watches. I‘ve got the green/blue variant but I must say your red one looks just as gorgeous. BTW there is no way the strap is going to outlive the Ecodrive. My oldest Ecodrive is 18 years now just ticking away as ever.
That is the absolute best part about these EvoDrive… they will just work for decades without missing a beat… thank you, hombre… I really enjoy the red one I gotta say… although the new green/blue variant is simply stunning in person and I am pretty sure that if I was buying it now I’d go for that one

Picked up 2 because they were on sale at the Citizen Store in San Marcos,TX for $130 a pop. Blue and black. Let my brother chose one,he went blue.
I like it.

I like the black one 😂 quite frankly, when I bought it, for first few days I thought I made a mistake and should’ve bought the black one… but it grew on me quickly and now I am super happy with it
If there's a better $200 dive watch out there, i haven't found it. I love my Pro Master. As a matter of fact, I love ALL my Citizen eco drive watches. They are fantastic watches that have never let me down after many years of use. Your videoes are awesome!!

Citizen is so OP in many categories. I got new Fugu last year for 200$ and wear it most of the time.
P.S. The strap is also bad 😅 had to get NATO from Ali.
Hahahh! Honestly Citizen is one of the brands I really want to get more of… Fugu is on my list for some time, now the new Tsuyosa with small seconds… damn it… 😂
And yeah the strap is bad - I heard they made it softer for the new BN models - but cannot confirm 🤷♂️ haven’t tried it on yet…

I also have a Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive (blue), and a Helm Vanuatu, and choosing between them is like deciding which child I love most. They're both true tool watches: simple, reliable, tough as nails, classic form-follows-function beauties. When the zombie apocalypse finally arrives, the zombies will undoubtedly kill me while I'm standing there deciding which one of them will be my end-of-the-world survival watch (and completely forgetting that I have an infinitely tougher and more accurate and reliable solar atomic G-shock right next to them).
Hahahhahahhah 😂 that is the best comment… cuz… I would probably end the same 😂 G-shock screaming at me: “ Pick me, cabron!!! I can survive it all and set my self every night!!!” … me in the meantime: “ let me think about it…”

I’ve got dive watches ranging from the Casio Duro to the Tudor Pelagos, yet the one dive watch I actually wear scuba diving is my citizen promaster (blue dial version). I’ve beaten it up pretty good and it’s still going strong.
I actually heard that quite a few times… they are amazing, not too expensive to be afraid… plus you don’t have to be afraid cuz they are so damn reliable 🤷♂️

This is the perfect watch for me. I work as a surveyor on large construction sites. I quite often have to put my hands into water and mud to find the exact spot to survey. The water resistance takes care of that. I use heavy hammers while working. The offset crown keeps my wrist from having a perpetual open wound from the normal 3 o clock crown repeatedly hitting my wrist. The bezel lets me know how much time I have to spare at my current asignment until I'm supposed to be at my next task.
Only downside that I can think of: I live in Scandinavia so wearing the watch under long sleeves and gloves during the winter months can cause the EcoDrive to run out of power...

And has it actually ever happened, that you would run out of battery? I mean they need very little light to keep ticking, even artificial light should keep them on
@@WatchWatch-ck6xl I have had an Ecodrive run of power once. But as you wrote: putting it under artificial light will recharge it. I just forgot to do that. I just wore it, day after day, under long sleeves.

Desk Divers 💪 Great review of a good watch -- thanks. But I think that I'll stick to my modded Duro (acrylic crystal and faded aluminium bezel) for a "no nonsense" day-to-day tool that I'm never going to go diving wearing, although you've convinced me to buy a waffle strap for it!

I have got 3 solar watches, 2 of them are casio radio controlled. It is the best thing I have experienced. There is no need to set summer/winter time. They correct the time by themselves.
I got two solar gshocks, also radio controlled, and it is infinitely practical… but I also love this one… 🤷♂️ it just speaks to me:)

Bought the iconic NY0085 coke bezel from Jomashop as only Fugu is avaible in my country, Malaysia.
Checking out this and the smaller diameter solar versions, they are good quality and attractive.
Good choice in your purchase.
If I were to nick picking on the diver series: minute hand is short in general.
They can be bright in colour, broad and stout but often not long enough reaching to the minute markers to give accurate time reading at a glance.
I do need to stare at the lume in the dark a tad longer to distinguish the 2 hands to read the time in pitch dark in the middle of the night.
My Seiko Monster and Orient Kamasu are easy to read when relying only on the lume on the hands.

The coke bezel NY0085 is just absolute classic !!! I am still thinking about that one too 🤦♂️ and yes the hands could be longer… but also shorter 😂 what I like about them is the iconic easy to distinguish design… they don’t feel copied or even similar to anything else, so I am willing to forgive the shortness I guess 😁

I've got the Orca watch I've had that for stupid amount of years must be going on 15 or so plus I have this model maybe 3 years not bright red dull looking colour but it's reliable tough as granite great showcase review

I just purchased one for $244. in black. Simple and masculine! Yea G Shocks are good watches but not for all occasions like my Timex Ironman. Good watches but for different occasions.
Totally… I love my G-shock but I can’t stop thinking about it as 100% sport watch - Gym, run or something… this feels like a proper tool..

I have the BN0166 limited edition. Then I realise I don't really enjoy the white chapter ring, so I bought another BN0151. Overall I think I love BN0151 the most, I am actually consider selling the BN0166. It is a tough choice but I don't want 2 watches with duplicated niche.
I actually sort of fell for the BN0166 so much that I was thinking about selling the red one and getting it instead 😂 but in the end decided to keep it, I was wearing it when my daughter was born and I its burned in my memory as that watch that was with me that day 😁 thanks for watching!!!!

You are right - digital watches are very 'boyish'. I love my Gs, but you cannot beat a proper analogue watch on your wrist.
100% sir… I am probably a bit weird… or I am pretty sure I am weird… I have it up and down with Gshocks - sometimes I feel like they are the only watches I want and then there is a period of time when I just don’t want to wear them at all 🤷♂️

Hmm...I was just looking for a everyday diver watch and saw your new video. I'm thinking of going to try it on at a nearby watch store. My first option was Hamilton scuba 40mm, but with it the lugs are quite long. I'm not sure about this one how the 44mm would feel, but I read in quite a few places that it seemed a size smaller and the price is 1/3 of Hami.
Definitely give it a go, it wears a lot smaller than the size suggests… and it really depends what you want… this is really a no-nonsense tool watch… the Hamilton is a different beast… and probably more useable for more formal occasions… this one however, will never let you down, there is something weirdly honest about these ecodrive promasters… I am a fan 🤷♂️ but I appreciate they are not for everyone…

Depends if you want a solar, or mechanical, diver or sport… if solar, you cannot really go wrong with this one, its a legend and its gonna serve you for ever, plus you will keep a lot of those 600$ 😁 if mechanical- my favorite must be Fujitsubo - can get it under 600$ - great movement, sapphire crystal, magical titanium that you just cannot scratch, the most comfortable watch I ever had… and for me, its absolutely beautiful!!! With little bit of shopping around you find the new promaster air gmt for around 600$ and that is a stellar!!!

Wish Citizen made the current model Promaster Tough Titanium in this perfect red color, I wear the dark gray Tough day and night, love the watch love the brand. I came to Citizen Eco Drive the hard way, taking risks that can break your back (mine twice) or get you cuffed shackled and flown back to a foreign country by armed officers with attitude, accuracy reliability and durability are nonnegotiable. 30 seconds can change your life, my timing was off and it put my picture on a wanted poster in Central America, “You have a long road ahead of you my son” said the priest as he left my cell at my request. He was right but there’s one major difference, my timing is now accurate to the second and powered by the sun for the next decade, probably longer than I’ll be alive. Citizen has it’s own underdog cool factor vs so called luxury brands, it’s James Dean in New York before fame, it’s guys like this cat doing the review that prove the watch doesn’t make you cool you make the watch cool. Next time I bet my life I’ll be wearing Citizen, if I lose the bet my Promaster will survive the hit and show accurate time on my dead wrist. Great review, looks, humor and humility, like Citizen you have unlimited potential.

In the entry level market, Citizen poops all over Seiko. I have an overpriced Seiko SNE583 ISO certified solar quartz diver. The supplied bracelet is garbage. Thankfully, Mark of LIW helps with his 3-link and 5-link bracelet and clasp upgrades. The insert was misaligned, forcing me to break the entire watch down to correct the misalignment. When you compare and contrast my Seiko with your Citizen Pro-Master, it's clear to me who is the winner in terms of value and QC: Citizen.
I have a lot of mechanical divers. I am learning to appreciate quartz divers more, because it's nice to have a grab-and-go, accurate, shock proof, reliable quartz beater. I have an overpriced CWC RN 41mm M.O.D quartz diver on the way from Europe. Expensive, but due to the beautiful M.O.D Omega 300 style design and military provenance, I deem it worth it. It's going to be my designated daily tool watch.

Most of my watches are mechanical, simply because I love them, but having a quartz (or few) completely makes sense and it spices the things up. Like you say, they are always ready, for anything, reliable and just easier to live with…

Mmmm… not sure if answer will make sense, but I enjoy more wearing Kamasu, it is more refined, more visually pleasing I would say… but if I had to keep only one watch and choose between those… it would be this… simply because of this aura promaster has… the absolute reliability and ease of use…

@@WatchWatch-ck6xl ended up getting the eco drive over the kamasu recently when looking to replace a broken promaster auto. Prefer to wear one watch everyday and have had skx, mako, ray & kano. Very happy with the eco drive on the Long Island oyster right now as an everyday + beater. Never really loved any of those orients for some reason

No, I got it almost two years ago, and counting 😁 and I think it would look pretty much the same on your wrist as it does in mine, it wear really good… I got little bit less than 7” wrist and it hides its size very well… I would advise you to try it on first, the new smaller models feel really small and I think you will like this size more ;) I like the watch a lot

I have been trying to love or like citizen. But just can't. And this specific model seems like a watch a soldier would wear to a suicide mission. And miracley returns with some minor bruises and scratches but the watch did not survive
Hahahhah 😂 fair enough… I understand, I heard from quite a few people that they don’t like Citizen’s designs… and there is actually a looot of watches they make I don’t like either, but especially lately, I gotta say I am a big fan 😁

I gotta say I prefer when the date window is at 6 and nicely integrated so it blends in… but here, I don’t think its the point with this watch… its still a tool first where the design is on a 2nd row… I somehow really don’t mind it here

I tried it and it really wears a lot smaller than one thinks. It is really flushed on the underside against the skin; which is in the design, that makes it really wear smaller than one would expect.

@WatchWatch-ck6xl the eco is a cool watch just a little bloated for me, I have the 42mm automatics. 3 of them awesome looking, durable, legible. I wish they'd make a 40-42mm eco
Agree, the smaller sized one they introduced last year is way too small for a diver… or my taste at least… the automatics on the other hand? Right up my alley… I love them… cheers
If or when the sh.. hits the fan. Why not a mechanical watch. If you don’t wanna look like a kid wearing a G shock. I don’t think you do btw. A Seiko turtle for example will do perfectly. You might be in a place, the sun is out, no electronic light source around. Lol I’m joking. I hope. The Citizen is awesome

And agree in a way… the mechanical watches will probably always be my preference and there is more of automatic divers in my watch box than anything else 😂… but can’t just deny the reliability record of these Eco-Drives… they really are bulletproof, hombre 😁 there is a guy here who has been wearing his (recreational diving too) for 17 years without having it ever checked 🤷♂️

Oh man, that is where you are wronger than “average wrong”…. They are amazing and more importantly they are the definition of reliability (talking about the promaster lineup) they are pro tools - ISO certified and they will serve you for decades…
