Not diagnosed but entire weekends go by just staring at my phone. I get as far as my first cup of coffee and sit on couch to check news on phones and that's it. Stuck in a procrastination loop with a weird guilty feeling for the whole weekend.

i get this. I have found that awareness is the first step and then changing my environment helps a ton. I notice if i get into bed with my phone, im on reels for hours. if i go on youtube at the dinner table, i am here for hours. so now i try and minimize these combos as much as possible. so, dont bring your phone to the couch

I literally go on dopamine hunts - it's not healthy. Shopping, sex, alcohol, cannabis, attention by annoying people, stimulus with intellectual arguments or challenges. Normal becomes excruciatingly boring and so painful. My brain works faster than other people's and flits quickly between topics and its frustratingif people are slow. I'm clever but always looking for stimulation. The life of an adult woman with adhd lol 😂 Medidation helps and high dosage CPD seems to help.

Excelently explained, it feels just as you describe it (by your references and ModerN literature)
...but I think one word needs correction and it is the “recreational” term for referring to illegal substances that boost dopamine, dough it is the official way they are classified and in some places permitted by that same concept of ‘recreational’ or maybe ‘medical’ pain killer use, let me tell you that in the vast majority of adhd/add cases and some other neurodiversities the use of very potent dopamine boosters, fast, accessible long acting anxiolytics, allucinogenics; in general psychoactives used for one or many of its effects is only to function, for example helping in develop of adulthood neuro plasticity or in my case I always been in the search for estimulants even from outside or inside of my body/mind, like the first 40 some years went undiagnosed but even then, for life, I knew that that! was what my brain needed only to be connected within itself and there is NOT any mindfulness or ‘just buckle up/commit enough’ philosophy that work as well as some dopamine/adrenaline running on synapses... it not always is available as needed in brains like mine, the only way to get it is just from outside, other wise my usual state is best case scenario on day dream (almost all the time, mean ALL), other big part of time is sensory/people/activity overwhelmed therefore seriously foggy 🌫 minded

Most of this checks out anecdotally but sugar is a no go for my children who have ADHD, it definitely puts them on an emotional roller coaster. Quite the opposite with food actually, we found that our children are more focused and adhd symptoms seem to subside more with sustained blood sugar levels (ie, no processed/refined carbs).

Were they potentially misdiagnosed due to running around wild because of the sugar and nothing to actually do with ADHD.

I agree; I don't see how sugar is any good. Adhd kids AND non adhd kids are hoocked on sugar. I always had a tendency for adhd and was addicted to sugar untill lately. It's possible that i might have been addicted to it but in retrospect ans with what we know now; sugar is almost as dangerous as any other drug if not more.
Don't let kids become addicted to manufactured sugar; instead keep it for rare occasions or indulge in natural sugars( fruits).

I like to get my adrenaline rush and dopamine from downhill mountain biking...when you get to the bottom of the mountain with your body intact and the bike is ok....what a feeling but that is because you accomplished something while moving your body so that part can't be so bad.

@@ryta1203 I’m not sure what you mean by “so much of it is garbage” because you can cross reference everything the guy talks about and see long standing science backing up the majority of what he talks about. What’s important to remember is that nothing in science is seen as “fact”, because scientists understand that the things we discover through testing and observation are always through the lens of a human eye & subject to human error or the limits of the tools used at the time. Current science is exciting because of new discoveries, refinements to old theories, and new capabilities with new technology. It makes zero sense to discount new theories and studied phenomena simply because it was recently uncovered. Huberman is very careful to always point out when he is making his own inferences, and when studies are new. The information he shares with the public is certainly diluted for consumption, but it is relevant and helpful to so many with limited knowledge of biology. Huberman is a smart guy, but I don't think he has much actual experience around people abusing cocaine.
ADHD people self-medicate. So do other people. A lot of club/rave people like coke. Of course they do! It's coke! But my ADD friends actually avoid cocaine more than the other party people. The coke comedown seems to be much more brutal for ADD people. You feel great for a few minutes, then you feel worse than you did to begin with for a few hours. That's not an effective way to self-medicate. Caffeine, nicotine, and Adderall all have a pretty smooth comedown that doesn't leave you feeling existentially depressed. A lot of ADD people use massive amounts of those stimulants. But I know several other ADD people who party really hard and have access to substances, and only one of them ever goes on coke binges. I know a couple people who have dealt with legit cocaine addiction and they're some of the least-ADD people I know. But molly/ecstasy ... that's a different story. Show me an ADD girl doing MDMA for the first time and I'll show you a girl crying because she's feeling the relief of being able to catch her breath and relax for the first time in her life.
