20 Things to do in Santiago, Chile City Guide | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Santa Lucia is an urban park smack dab in the middle of Santiago and it’s a popular hangout in the afternoons and weekends. The hike is a pleasant one with lots to see, including fountains, spiralling staircases, defensive forts, sprawling gardens, and cool lookout points.
Lastarria is a neighbourhood located just east of Santa Lucia hill and it was once the bohemian hub of the city.Today it is very popular with tourists as it offers an outdoors flea market, an international mix of cafes and restaurants, & live music.
For panoramic views of the city, ride the funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill.
Plaza de Armas is the heart of Santiago’s historic centre. There are lots of benches under the cover of palm trees, and the place is buzzing with activity. The Metropolitan Cathedral is located in the historic centre of Santiago overlooking the square. The construction you see today dates back to the year 1800, since previous cathedrals were destroyed in earthquakes.
Santiago’s Central Market is the place to come for the freshest food. You'll find rows of restaurants serving up everything from grilled fish to ceviche. We really like our ceviche, so we found a place serving exactly that.
Parque Forestal is a park that forms a long stretch of greenery along the Mapocho River. It’s a nice green escape in the middle of the city.
Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. This is where you can come to watch the changing of the guard. Just underneath Palacio de La Moneda, you’ll find Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, which is a cultural centre featuring exhibitions, design shops, and a small selection of cafes.
Bellavista is a cultural hub with lots of theatres, cinemas, cafes, museums, and restaurants. The most famed home in the neighbourhood is La Chascona, the home of the famed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.
And that's a wrap for the Chilean capital! We hope you enjoyed this Santiago travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do, places to visit, and Chilean dishes to try in the city.

We lived in Chile in late 90’s and loved the ambience of Los Dominicos which is an old mission that was turned into little curio shops and authentic food including empanadas. A return visit would definitely include that as either the very first stop to begin the nostalgia or the very last as a sweet lingering memory as we left.
Oops, I meant Los Dominicos not Santo Domingo
Oh, that is really cool to hear! I hope you;'ll get a chance to do that soon.
Visiting Santiago right now and this video gave me some ideas about things to do. Thank you!
Thank you very much! That is awesome to hear. Hope you enjoy your time there.
Que Hermoso Pais
I'm glad you enjoyed Chile ..we always have a blast

Se ven muy ricas las empanadas, y rematar con una buena cerveza, que mejor, me
parece que fue un buen viaje, Saludos.

I am heading to Santiago in June, so thanks very much for the excellently informative video, it has not only re-enforced some ideas I had in regards to things to see, but opened my eyes to go try out a couple of things I didn't have planned. You have in essence made this city 'pop' for me, the power of the visual shared experience. Thanks.

Very nice video on Santiago. I am making plans to visit there.
Thank you! That's really cool to hear.
Always wanted to visit Chile. Hope to do so in the future and this you tube contribution is just great for Santiago. I think (in my case) that watching that great sunset would have to be accompanied by a big Cuban Havana Cigar and I am sure a glass of two of a superb Chilean wine would be thrown in somewhere as well!
That is really cool to hear! Highly recommend visiting. LOL, now that sounds just about right with the cigar and wine ;)
I loved your descriptions and your kindness with our dogs. Saludos desde Chile : )
Thank you very much! Ah we miss Chile and the dogs :)

+The Drunken Bear Thank you! Yeah, it is a great neighborhood - fun to walk around and so many awesome restaurants and pubs. Definitely try the craft beer next time if you get a chance as it is rather unique.
Yeah, Bellavista was my favorite part of town.

Hey guys! Great video. I'm planning to travel to SCL but I'm not sure what's the best area to stay. Do you recommend renting an apartment downtown?
Oh, cool to hear! Yeah, that is exactly what we did. We could walk everywhere by doing that.
Just wondering if you 2 are planning on visiting Montevideo, Uruguay while you are in South America. I'm curious to know about that city and your guys recommendations there.
+Evan Graham Thanks! I'm hoping we can.
When in Chile, be sure to visit the Celenta Catayente Towers near the Estadio Olympico.
Thanks for that tip.
I like how half these things involve eating...nomming your way round the world hehe
Exactly!
@@samuelandaudrey what would you day are the must try/trademark dishes in Santiago? Aside from the ones you showed.
Glad to know you guys enjoyed Santiago :)
Audrey, you have an awesome spanish pronunciation, you sound like a spanish speaker :)
Thank you very much! We had a great time :)
You guys ALWAYS make me Hungry and my Mouth Salivate. Never fails on ALL your videos. Is a Love-Hate Relationship with You guys because I don´t want to get hungry at 11 o´clock at night.
Hehehe...it is dangerous to watch food videos on an empty stomach. We make that mistake all of the time ;)
I accepted a job in Chile, this video helped to give me an idea what I can expect
That is exciting to hear. Hope you have a great time.
Thanks, I'm excited for the opportunity, and I might check out some of your other Chile videos (just in case I want to hike the Andes)
welcome to samuel and audrey ,, travelling in so nice hobby
Thank you very much! We love it :)
Thank you very much! We love it :)
LOL. And then you guys make me salivate before you even put the food in your mouths. LOL never fails.
Thanks! Wish we could share.
I´m very excited to visit Santiago. Empanadas look amazing, cant wait to taste them. Nice video. By the way, there is no need to fight. Samuel nor Audrey have mentioned Pisco Sour or ceviche are part of Chile´s national cuisine, it is settled in stone that those are peruvians. It will be nice to know if they do have a difference though. That´s the beauty of traveling.Enjoy the moment & the place. Stop fighting.
Thanks for sharing this, Samuel and Audrey. Could you help me with prices? How much would I spend each day in restaurants and to see the attractions, on average? Don't worry about accommodation.
My FIance and I are visiting Santiago and Easter Island next month, your videos have been very helpful. I was just curious about how much money you spent per day, and how did you get from Santiago to Valparaiso?
Thank you! That is cool to hear. We did a video on Valparaiso and Easter Island as well. Santiago and Valparaiso are considerably cheaper for accommodations and food than Easter Island. Some tasty things to eat on the island include empanadas and ice cream. To save some money on Easter Island check out guest houses as opposed to hotels.
are you guys going to venezuela angels falls like the movie "up"
+antking1117 That we be an amazing place to visit. I'm afraid we're not likely going to make it on this current trip.
Samuel got that Clark Griswold look poppin off
Hahaha!
chile 😍😘
:)
Te extraño mi bello chile
,
dulce de leche , empanadas = Argentina. los esperamos
Hermoso video! We are planning to go to Santiago in September. Can you tell me about the wheather there? Did you visit other cities such as Valparaiso and Viña del Mar? We are planning to do that! Im from Argentina and my partner is from Australia 😊😊😊❤...so we are going to speak Spanish and English! This was what i wanted to see from Santiago! Thank you!!! The old cathedral in pink is in barrio Lastarria? We are staying in Lastarria. Abrazos! Besos latinos!
Thank you very much! That is exciting to hear. Santiago was warm when we visited mind you it was summer at the time. We visited both and they are nearby Santiago. Actually if you stay in Valparaiso you can easily do a day-trip.
I just came here to say hello!! :)
+El Tercermundista Thanks! Hello back to you :)
:) (Y)
+El Tercermundista :)
I need to move here!
Cool to hear!
What area of Santiago did u stay in ? Can you share your Airbnb ? Will be in Santiago fro one night after San Pedro \ Salar de Uyuni , I plan to do as much as possible from your guide. Thanks for this video, very helpful. My daughter could almost taste the dulce de Leche from your video 😀
don't know how I end up watching your videos at night. I start craving for food, go to the refrigerator just to find a box filled with minced meat.. :( :'(
+Abrar Zaheen Sorry for that! Hope your fridge is better stocked next time ;)
nice video, why don't you come to the south, you'd love it much more than Santiago , I live in Puerto Montt city near the volcanos area and Llanquihue lake
Thanks! I hope we can do that next time :)
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos
Verónica Soussi nice to sends some video about the city u live
Verónica Soussi nice
omg was there this year. so in love with this beautiful country. will love to visit again, but i wasn able to make any friends...
Which Airbnb did you stay at? It's nice to have a recommended one :)
If you thought the empanadas in San Pedro de Atacama were big, you should try the ones they sell in a little town an hour away from Santiago, called Pomaire. This little town is known by its greda (brown clay) pottery. There, you'll find one-kilogram empanadas!
Thanks for sharing that! Woah! Sounds awesome.
Fernanda Valdés Moscoso empanadas= Argentina. Pisco and Ceviche=Peru
Did you visit the city of Valdivia? There you will drink the best craft beer in the country. There are 13 different brands made in the city.
No, we didn't get a chance to go there.
hi guys Is Chile is safe country to visit? Which places are safe for tourist there?
Yeah, I would say so. Aside from Santiago, places such as Valparaiso, San Pedro de Atacama and Easter Island are highly recommended by us.
Cheers:)
thanks!:)
Safest south american country in the world, and the wealthiest. I felt very safe here, and it is a stunning thin country. Please visit
What period of the year did you guys go there?
It was around March/April.
;
9:42 nice park
Thanks!
💌
I like your boyfriend Audrey, he makes me smile, he's kind and funny 💕🍀

+Liam's LunchBox Thanks! We have an Easter Island and Valparaiso guide from Chile coming out soon as well.
My wife wonders right now about the time you´ve spent into doing this video... i wonder about your spanish accent, seems so local. I guess your are canadians and maybe you are (french) bilingual? anyway great video and i must tell you guys...you've missed "La Piojera"... even though you were less than a block away!
Are you guys from Canada?
Yes, we are :)
Kevin Burciaga i love canadians
is chile cheaper to travel then peru? i love your video's great tips. keep up the travels.
+antking1117 Actually it is the other way around. Peru is quite a bit cheaper than Chile on average. Actually Chile is one of (if not the most) expensive countries to visit in South America - especially anywhere touristy like San Pedro de Atacama.
Hello, i'm from Korea. Actually i also traveled a lot and i've been to Santiago too. Btw, when you travel, how can u find good restraunt? Whenever i traveled, i used to fail to find great restraunt.
Thank you! Ah, we miss Korea. We tend to look for recommendations from blogs, videos and sometimes from review sites like tripadvisor.
I'd be interested to know how to be a digital nomad like you guys
+Shruthi Reddy Thanks! We'll have to make a video about it soon :)
how did you like the city? I've heard it's very clean, modern but boring. is it like buenos aires? how many days do you recommend to stay there?
We enjoyed it! Cool neighborhoods to explore and great food.
Alexis Cartagena Santiago is vibrant and cultural city, and the time for your visit can dependent what do you want to do, Do you want ski? (betwen jun. to september) 40 minutes you will find La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado resort
Would you like wineyard? In the middle of the city there are two:Cousiño Macul and Concha y Toro Wineyard
Trekking? Spa? Rafting? You´ll find in El Cajon del Maipo, 40 minutes close the city. The best place for me is a Termas Colina in the middle of de Andean Mountains, with hot and natural waters from San José volcano.
120 kms. to Stgo there are two shore line cities Valparaiso and Viña del Mar in half way, Casablanca Valley with many others wineyards.
But the top one in the city, are their parks:Metropolitano, Bicentenario,Forestal, Balmaceda,De los Reyes,Quinta Normal, O´Higgins, etc.
Finally museums like Bellas Artes(fine arts),Precolombino,Historia Natural,Centro Cultural La Moneda,Del Banco Central,De la Memoria.
Wants more?
You guys should come to Brazil ! :)
+felipe jannotti i wanna come :(
+felipe jannotti Thanks! We're hoping to do that soon.

Audrey i like a lot your spanish pronounciation , are you half latin?! , Excellent Spanish , kisses to you both!
Thank yoU! Yes, her parents are from South America (Argentina and Peru).
Empanadas de pino!!!!
:)
Empanadas !! I'll see in your video las empanadas to eat very good!!!.
Audrey , por qué cuando hablas en español , tienes acento chileno ?
Su acento se parece más a su madre de Perú, pero tal vez suena un poco a Chile.
Chile is by far the most advanced and also the one with the best economy, the cleanest and safest for tourist. it is pretty much a developed country. Brazil, Ecuador and Uruguay are also beautiful places. Peru if it wasnt so dirty and the people so desperate to make a sell could be my top pick.
Realty into Reality Peru is dirty ?? You are ignorant, Peru has twice as many landscapes and twice as many beautiful places, Peru has biodiversity, in fact it is in the top of the most biodiverse countries on the planet, Chile is just an arid place,
i would like to move to chile but would like to know for myself how to be a resident there, me gusta la cuidad santiago y tengo unos amigos de alli
Is so easy to do it, enter like a tourist and then in Inmigration Office you start the visa or permission for stay in our country, you must find a job
I live in Chile sorrey for my gramer
No worries. Cool to hear that. Where in Chile exactly?
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos I live in Santiago,Chile right now it cold
How do you do this all the time?
+Betty Ronald We work online as we go from place to place :)
That is so cool
