I built my DREAM Rickenbacker...then gave it away đ€Šââïž

- This is how I built my DREAM Rickenbacker 360 style custom guitar, and why I gave it away. It made me sad because this is probably the best guitar that I've ever built, but it also brings me joy knowing that it will be used to serve the Lord in this ministry. Even an atheist like me can appreciate the love that goes into what you do and how your faith helps you to feel that sense of purpose, as it also helps people like your cousin-in-law to find a better path in life. Beautiful video, beautiful guitar.
Ditto that.
Totally agree! Whatever the means to an end. Also an atheist in recovery,I can see where faith based programs allow some to shed the guilt until they're prepared to deal with it.
Thomas Colley Guilt is religion and related to religious based programs which are a world apart from true faith .
Guilt is related to a vast variety of things. And religion is full of flawed people just like the secular world. Regardless of faiths or beliefs, I think we can all agree that even the best and purest of people need help and support at times. Thanks to Dan for always finding great ways to showcase this!
Ilker YĂŒcel awesome looking Guitar, saw a 12 string Rikenbaker electric hollow body yesterday, the tuners on the head stock were crazy looking, 3 look like an Electric style, the other 3 are more like Classical style placement and it was only 12k$ and i agree about the finding the lord thing, whatever works for people and helps them accomplish their goals i say good on ya Fam! No reason to judge someone for what they believe in, im sure you wouldnt like it
Love how you blended in your cousin in laws testimony in the making of this incredible guitar.
Thanks for making my husband sooooo happy Dan! You and your family bring so much joy to our family! â„ïž
Thanks Kiara! We love you guys so much and have truly enjoyed our time here with you guys
Dan, Iâm sorry to tell you, I think youâre right.
That might be the best looking guitar youâve ever built.
Love your channel. Been watching since the âgreen screenâ days. Keep it up and be safe out there.
Haha thanks for bearing with me through the âexperimentalâ phase of my channel! And thanks for the encouragement man. I appreciate you
God is so good all of the time. What a testimony. Thanks for sharing that!
Agreed, thanks Patrick!
This is the content I'm here for! Guitars + ministry are the best combo.
Thanks Julian! I agree (obviously) haha!
great video im a recovered alcoholic been sober for a long time and can say i feel great. God has chased me down all my life,to get me where i am now. love what you do thanks
Your wife is getting amazing at editing..way to go Mrs Thompson!!
This needs to be said more. Props to Mama Guns
He was so stoked to receive that beautiful guitar. That is awesome.
He said that this was the best gift he ever had in his life and it's probably true. Congratulations on the great guitar, it's awesome. And his story was heart-touching, he totally deserves the guitar.
Wow Dan, I've been a huge fan of your channel and you inspired me to build a guitar of my own, but this video had me in tears. I'm so thankful for you and people like Josh who give back like this.
Absolutely loved this "build". The guitar looks great and the sound is gorgeous and sweeet! But I loved the story even more! >
Awesome video . Combining Josh's story with the build and his own jams was a great idea . The guitar looks and sounds great. Bless you both
I love that finish!
Any chance of doing a dremel engraving tutorial soon?
As someone who struggled with addiction myself to the point where I ended up 16 years ago in a treatment facility I know first hand how valuable that work is. Great gift Dan
This has to be my favorite video you have done to date. Beautiful guitar and beautiful story. I think you have found your ministry through your videos.
Dan you're such an awesome person and that finish is awesome! Never been a rickenbacker fan, but that guitar sounds great! Especially in the hands of a talented musician.
What an admirable thing to do with such an awesome build Dan. Keep up the good work bro.
Thanks Michael!
I've been following your channel a few weeks now and my first kit is arriving tomorrow. I haven't gone through all your vids yet so I'm not sure if you've been open about your faith before today or if today was "the day". Either way, huge props to you for risking the potential backlash that can come with it. Our faith is our life and sharing it with everyone is our mission but its many times easier said than done. Not that my opinion matters, but I'm beyond proud of you and know that God will continue to bless you, your family, and your channel. Also, while its largely meaningless in the grand scale of things, pretty impressed by you giving away your Rick kit. Knowing how rare they are and such. Keep it up man!
He has always been open about his faith. He does it in a way that doesnt force it upon the people who dont want to hear it though. Which is a good thing imho. I feel that forcing Jesus on the lost is what turns them off to God all together. Its a fine line we have to walk when witnessing.
Bryan Wayne Oh I couldnât agree more about âforcingâ it on people. 100% the wrong approach to do that. I think his approach is the right way. I also hadnât seen his RV channel until today after making the initial comment.
@@1980bwc With respect, could you please not refer to us as "the lost", that would imply we don't know what we're doing and fumbling around blindly. Many of us have chosen what our faith is by our own choice rather then just simply "being lost".
I personally have chosen Lucifer as my mentor, but even though our faiths are conflicting, I'd certainly never say you are "lost" for having chosen Christ, that's your decision to make, and to say you are "lost" because of it is invalidating your decision and your faith in a back-handed sort of way.
Small note that us children of Lucifer are generally nice people, there are some radicals, but the same is true of all religions. When the day comes that I die, I'll find out which religion is correct, regardless, I'll be happy with the path I chose, because I chose it.
@@ChrisThomasonAtB how did the kit building go?
This was my favorite of your videos yet, Dan. I loved how you showcased Joshâs transformation. We will overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our TESTIMONY. The best way to spread the Gospel is to share testimony of those it changed.
Keep it up! You blessed me today.
As one who works in a ministry organization that works with those who are drug & alcohol addicted, and who are primarily homeless, and who works to see lives changed by the Gospel, I love this. It's so great to see what God has done in this life, and continues to do in lives all over the world.
And as one who recently did my first ever guitar kit (why I discovered your channel), I love what you did on that guitar! It is beautiful, it sounds beautiful, and I love how you put Philippians 4:13 on the back of the instrument. You're inspiring me to my next build (if I can get my wife to allow me to do it).
Very cool, and thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story of a changed life, and a very, very nice guitar build!
It's so encouraging to hear the stories of men who have been transformed by Christ!!! This video is too cool!
The guitar was a great gift, but the greatest gift given to your relative was finding himself through the Lord. The self love and respect that comes with sobriety. A chance to start over and help others are the priceless gifts. God bless him and you. Thanks for video !
A pearl white pickguard on this guitar would look KILLER! Very inspirational story, may you guys and your families be blessed and keep on doing good!
This is the best guitar you've made as far as I know, I hope you and your cousin do well, you both deserve it!
Thank you for your cousins appearance and story. I can relate. I have medical conditions from birth. Along with addiction problems for many years. My daughter was 3 months old when I met her. She and music saved my life. Now I'm married, and sober.
Love this story dude! great channel and it inspired me to build my own guitar from a kit on my channel, i used your excellent guidance as reference material and the promo code you offered, so thanks đ
So beautiful in every way! Thanks for being a great human being! We need more people like you in this world!
This is one of the most wholesome CZcams videos Iâve ever seen! Amazing guitar, and a well deserving individual to play it. Just goes to show that family is one of the most powerful things out there.
Beautiful guitar and a beautiful friendship and a beautiful gesture to give your very best to one that you love. Thank you!
"Go into the world and make disciples of all nations ..." (Matt. 28:19) Exactly what you and your associates are doing! Wonderful!
A beautiful guitar and a beautiful story. I thought I would watch just a few clips to see the before and after of the guitar build and I ended up watching the full 23 minutes during my working day without realising. Totally engrossed!
I just watched this for the first time Dan, and I am really amazed at you're gifts from the Lord. I am subscribing .....This guitar and the verse on the back says it all! Excellent work.
Dan, I like the finish - very nice.
You know you can buy tuner conversion bushes from places like Stewmac & ebay? They're only a few bucks off ebay (lots more at stewmac). They just press into the 10.5mm holes already drilled without stuffing around with shims and re-drilling.
Iâve had the honor of working for Adult & Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest for the last ten years. I love to hear the stories of transformed lives and see men like Josh walking in their calling. Thanks for blessing him with a sweet guitar!
If you ever want to bring the RV to Oregon, weâve got a place for you to park!
Message me on Facebook! Iâd love to connect when we head that way in late summer/fall
Good on you for giving it away, if I built something that beautiful I would never be able to give it to someone else. You and your channel keeps getting better and better!
No question, hands down your best video I've seen. The guitar is amazing. But its new owner's story and mission is even more amazing. Well done Dan.
Dan, by far, one of the best, interesting, and inspiring videos you and your wife have produced. Thank you.
This is why Guns & Guitars is my favorite CZcams channel.
Great build Dan once again! Iâm really proud of Josh overcoming his addiction. I know itâs not easy and itâs a daily struggle but help is out there
I just happened to be chopping onions while watching this video đą, God bless you Dan âïž. As a believer I have seen many testimonies of addicts who have been set free through the saving power of the cross, I pray the Lord would continue to bless your channel and may His favor and grace continue to cover you and your family. Your brother in Christ from Texas đ
Cousin-in-law knows how to jam yo!đ€
Heck yeah he can!
Thank you gentlemen. I will be supporting your ministry. 6- 22-2019 is the day we lost our son to drug addiction. Not a day goes by that I don't think or feel what could I have done to help him. We prayed and so did alot of other people. He was an Iraq war veteran. He grew up a happy healthy kid was strong as an ox. He played football from youth through high school and was a star running back and wide receiver. He was only 5' 8" but his energy and skill and determination was contagious. His team lost by a point before going to a Heinz field to face Terell Pryor who went to play in the NFL. Our son began his army service while in his senior year of high school. He served his country with honor and distinction. He was injured in Iraq. It was while servicing satellite equipment on the roof of his firebase. He had an abdominal hernia that progressively got worse. For some reason the va doctors would not preform a much needed surgery. They just kept prescribing him opiate pain medication. He worked attended two trade schools and had 4.0 grade averages. By the time the va preformed the surgery he had been fighting the pain and trying not to become addicted for 6 years. We raised him up to love God. He was on a roller coaster of ups and downs. He would be on top working and going to school and then be in jail for stealing from retail stores to support his opiate addiction. We thought this last year he was going to make it. He had been clean for a year and half. His girlfriend told us he broke out in hives from head to toe and he had become very irritable. A couple days later she found him dead in his apartment. He had taken some cocain the had fentinol in it. He was our only child. God has given us a peace but not a day goes by that I don't miss him. We were very close. I could not hope to show you just how extraordinary Josh was he battled to the end. So if you're in a battle with addiction or any circumstance that seems hopeless Jesus Christ is your answer he is our only hope.
WOW!!! My brother, that's a blessing, I pray the Lord will bless you continually.
Just...WOW! This is your best video yet. Amazing build, heart warming story and flawless editing. Sending prayers to Josh, his family and his ministry.
This was possibly the best guitar build I've ever watched. It's not only an awesome guitar, but the story is really what makes this video. It's so encouraging to hear your cousin's story and how he's helping lead people to Christ. You've definitely earned a subscriber here!
Thanks!
I've never commented on any of your videos before but this has got to be the best one (so far) yet. Way to go Dan. Awesome story. Great story-telling while watching you create this absolutely beautiful piece of art.
Thanks so much for finally commenting! Itâs nice to meet you moose and mongo! Hope to see you in the comments again!
That guitar turned out amazing man! I'm glad the guitar could go to as good of a guy as Josh because it's real noble what he's doing
SO SO GREAT Dan!!! Well done buddy!
Whoa it turned out fantastic! I couldn't think of a better precipitant personally. God Bless Dan... đđđđ
I know many Teen Challenge grads. My pastor included. This is the most successful program out there. Great vid! Beautiful guitar!
That guitar is magnificent. Excellent job. Great respect to you and your cousin. That's what it's about bro.
20:24. Your cousin's reaction says everything :)
I've been waiting for guitar videos.
Thanks Dan :)
Thanks for waiting man! I hope this one was worth the wait
@@GunsandGuitars Definitely. I love the guitar videos. I watched all the knife sharpening videos and I was waiting for a long guitar video and man you delivered :)
His face when he saw the guitar was priceless. Not a Christian myself but to see a life changed that way is beautiful to see what the faith, love and care could do.
Great work Dan. Lots of respect.
Thanks Luis!
Such a nice episode : ) being sober from alcohol for over two years now, I know the importance of having a group of brothers and sisters who have been through it to walk beside you and lift you up. Praise God for His love, and so thankful for the people who He put into my life when I was at my lowest!
Amen!
That's some beautiful country out there. I lived in NW Arkansas for a number of years, and we would travel out to OK and I just loved that wide-open country. Amazing place for this beautiful build. Personally, I'm an agnostic humanist, and I agree with Ilker YĂŒcel's comment. The love you put into your work is palpable.
Also, no matter what faith sustains you and your cousin, it's 100% real and worth it if it helps him overcome his addiction. Rock on you two. \m/
Always looking forward to your videos man. keep up the good work!
Dude, you really did an incredible job on this one. Especialy i love the "burst", I would love to have the same on my bass. And the way he grabbed the guitar away from you i can tell he instantly fell in love with it. Great job.
The Rickenbacker you made on here definitely became a dream guitar and an inspiration!!
Awesome video, great story, I love hearing from people that have made it out of addiction and into recovery. So many people don't get that chance. Also, awesome awesome awesome guitar man!!!!
Amazing story praise God!! Awesome blessing for sure Dan!
Iâve been a long time watcher, and I donât think Iâve ever commented on a CZcams vid, but I am LOVING the way youâre putting the gospel in your videos lately. Itâs very encouraging to see someone use their platform for that. Iâm a worship leader, and gig on the weekends, and have gained a lot of knowledge from watching your content. I also LOVE the engraving you did on the back. I need that on one of my guitars, very cool man.
Thanks mason for finally speaking up! Itâs nice to meet you. Thanks for the encouraging words and I hope to see you in the comments more!
you're a kind soul Dan. may you be blessed in all you do.
Dan this is your best video so far production, storyline, purpose, build, music Just such a great thing to do You'll be blessed even more
Awesome it's always great to see stories like this video. It took some boldness to share a video like this.
Love the video. Killer guitar, killer tones, killer playing, killer ministry. Keep it coming Dan. Btw, I enjoyed the Knife stuff but itâs nice to get back to the guitars!
Amazing guitar, but even more amazing video and story. Love your stuff, what you do, the spirit in which you do it, and the artistry with which you do it. A+ on all counts.
I just cant handle it man.... I knew it was coming and then BAM. The Lord.
Congratulations on changing your life, but you did it yourself.
I LOVE this guitar!!! and... I LOVE that you gave it away. Everything about it is awesome! I especially love the style of the verse graphic that you carved on the back- It goes perfectly with the guitar, and with this particular guitars purpose. Keep up the awesome videos!
Powerful testimony! Cool guitar! All around a good video :) thanks for bringing something fresh to the world of CZcams guitar channels
An awesome guitar for an awesome cause! This video made my day!đđđžđ¶
Wow Dan thanks this is really a blessing to me, I love what you did in and through this guitar build.
You can buy conversion bushings to allow vintage tuners on modern sized tuner holes for around $10 from Amazon. Overall, it's a great build as usual and went to a great cause.
That's really awesome, all your guitars have this really cool and unique style to them. Standard is boring ;)
i like standard still but ok
Inspiring! Both the guitar and the story. Well done.
A beautiful guitar and an even more beautiful story. God bless.
You are really getting good at this. And blessing someone else is really what life is all about. Great video.
It's a beauty Dan! great job!
I can't even speak! Very touching story, decent build, beautiful sound, awesome playing, and like others, tears welled up in my eyes! You both GO! The world needs people like both of you! And this Dan would have built him one too!
I really like your channel and have been a hobby guitar builder for about fifty years . It usually takes me about six months to build a guitar off and on and when I watch you freehand rout and carve these kits that you build and get the job done in about a week, I'm jealous ! I love your ministry and wish you and your family all the best .
Really uplifting video. Really cool of you to gift that guitar.
Dan, you've outdone yourself. I wanna be like you when I grow up. This video made me cry.
Haha this one is a bit of a tear jerker for sure! Thanks for the encouragement man
Kinda missed you dude, happy to see you Doing amazing things and building killer guitars. Stay safe out there on the road.
Thanks and will do Stanley!
I want you both to know that your work in helping people is not going unnoticed... Thank you for your dedication to helping those who suffer from addiction. The work you put in does not go unnoticed and it sure as hell does not go unappreciated. As a fellow teacher and Christian, I am so proud of you two and so amazed by your generosity of spirit...
Beautiful. Gifts from the heart are their own reward, and often lead to more.
Touching story, beautiful guitar and what you do. Thanks for sharing this story.
Damn. That's the first guitar of that style I like. Very nice work. Beautiful guitar, and a better story to go with it.
That is an inspiring story and an amazing guitar. Great job!!
As someone in recovery who has been on that path and come back around I can't thank you enough. Thank you for this message Dan.
Wonderful story, Dan. Warmed my heart, you did! ;^) A couple years ago I got GAS for an LP to do some learning mods. Found a shorted out black Epi LP Studio on eBay for $130 something and bought it. Gutted the electronics and installed all new vintage 50's wiring with chrome alnico II humbuckers. Found a chromed aluminum diamond-plate pickguard and modded it to fit. A real beauty when done - kind of a Harley vibe. Then ran across a like new Line 6 Spider IV modeling combo with 12" on CL for $50 and pounced on it. Abba Father let me enjoy it for about a week before going to our PO box and overhearing the young clerk say he had to sell his electric guitar (LP) and amp to pay for tuition. Papa didn't have to say a word and my wife who was with me had the same leading. We arranged to meet the young man a day or 2 later and gave him the guitar and amp. Tears all around. He's a brother with a gentle heart - who I could wish was my grandson - or perhaps a Timothy like son to this old saint. Since giving away that guitar and amp, I've been led to a couple nice guitars at a good price that are a better fit for my style and large hands - hollow bodies with 1.75" nuts. No more LPs, Strats or Teles for me - unless it's to fix another one up for someone. You know Dan, I had the feeling when He moved me to give the young man the LP and amp, that the Father wants to encourage His own to make music. I fought that battle myself and there seems to be no end to the obstacles that would discourage and prevent me from making music. As often as that's happened, He lowers the boom on whatever the obstacle is for me and looses me to get back to using my musical gifts. It's such a blessing to play a small part in someones restoration. ;^) Bless you for doing so Dan. Jack
As a man who has battled addiction and come out the other side, this video was truly inspiring. Now I have an amazing wife and 2 great lil boys to give me purpose in life. I damaged my kidneys from drugs but I just received a transplant from an amazing faith filled friend. So much to be grateful for! The guitar is so beautiful, great job Dan and awesome story.
Thanks for sharing your story Ian!
Gorgeous build and even more beautiful story. Love these ones brother!
Praise the LORD! Thank you for sharing your cousin-in-law's story!
Great build and inspirational backstory - it was a real pleasure watching this. I will check out Sonrise and see if I can donate from the UK. Having lost a brother to addiction, I really do appreciate the work they do.
Great customisation of the guitar Dan. Giving the guitar away to help support this ministry is great đ So good to hear about this ministry & helping to change peopleâs lives for Christ. Great stuff guyâs đžđ
Thanks so much Nathan! I appreciate the encouragement this morning :)
Dude, this is such a great video. Awesome build, powerful interview and testimony, and an important ministry.
Thanks Douglas!
Because thatâs what legends do!
I know you donât like to make beautiful guitars but youâre getting good at achieving that road worn finish skipping like the chips in the wood and that sort of things, good for you man, that guitar looks sick!
really sad CZcams doesn't have a Two thumbs up, not only the build, but the message, awesomeness
Wowowowowowow!!!! Absolutely my favorite build! Great work and super extra AMEN bonus points to you, Dan, for gifting this to Josh! Keep on going Josh, you've been through the worst to give others your best. RW
I couldnât agree more, Josh is using his horrid past to make a better future for the lives of these men
