- This barn in Mendota, Virginia, dates back to the 1940s and was once featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not for its very odd construction. Check out this video for the rest of the story...
Still watching, still enjoying. Thank you both for the tours!
Thank you so much, we still watch your show too. Keep it coming!
BREAKING NEW RELEASE! Good to see you both out and about, getting after it again. Be well and safe. Cheers
Thank you so much, we are slowly getting back into the swing and are plotting more
Sure an ingenious way of using what's @ hand and a great example of thinking out of the box!
so very true
Good to see you guys posting on a regular basis again! Thanks for sharing!
thank you so much, Daniel, we are slowly coming back to life lol
I a place called Eagle Meadows up in the mountains at 5500 feet above sea level. There is a cabin built on a rock just like this barn.
I believe Mendota is not too far from Johnson City. This is absolutely gorgeous scenery. It is nice to see some greenery instead of bare trees and snow. Are the pink flowers at the base of the rock wild or did someone plant them? They certainly add to the look of the barn. Beautiful old barn Shane. Thank you and Melody.
thank you so much, I think those pretty flowers were planted. I would have loved to have stole some but my conscience wouldnt let me lol
@@realappalachiago back when they have seed pods 😊
Thanks for sharing that. I know it was an enjoyable trip. Looks like that rock extends past the other side of the barn. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Amazing build Shane ! So glad to see you and Melody again. Can't wait to see the ventures in 2024 ;) Blessings .
Bless you and thank you so much
Very interesting!
My Grandmother was from Mendota, beautiful area!
I remember when "Believe It Or Not " was in the Sunday "funny papers " every week. Back in the 1950s. Thanks Shane & Melody.
Great little video Shane. Very Interesting and what a beaitiful day! Thanks for sharing!!! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
I lived nearby many years ago. Was at the old rock barn many times. Even helped ol Doc Barker with his tobacco seedlings there one year. Yet, I never knew the barn was listed in Ripley's. Cool.
I bet it is really cool on the inside
That's so cool. I checked it out on Google Maps aerials, and saw that there are 3 or 4 cemeteries nearby, all a short distance to the east of that.
I saw one of them while I was there but that seems like a lot for such a small community. I guess it just shows that people have lived there for a long long time
It's is beautiful here every season. But I can't wait until spring time. I miss the greenery
Same!
My wife’s Uncle has a big rock not quite as big as that one but big in the center of his basement nice cement floor he wanted me to build him a wood stove for his basement so I did and when I delivered it I couldn’t believe my eyes the stove was pretty close to it so the rock wold soak up the heat and continue to eat after the fire went out !!!
I’d love to see that
I've been past this barn many times and yes,one of the most beautiful places in southwest Virginia.
We went to Ripley's in Branson.
(sorry, that's all I could think of)
Happy Valentine's Day !!
I love Ripley's! Happy Valentine's Day to you too!
Pretty cool. Appreciate you telling why he did that Shane.
kind of a strange reason but i wanted to know too so i kept investigating
Clever. Thanks for sharing that.
thank you!
I'd love to see that; maybe someday.
yes, it is very interesting to check out
Great video love it 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Live in Abingdon myself. Love the local history stuff.
yes, love discovering these old stories
That’s a nice barn and I love the huge rock. So pretty with the flowers planted behind it and that gorgeous view.
This wasn’t recent, was it? The trees have leaves. Lol, that boulder is huge.
That one got caught in editing when the baby came so it took a couple of months to finish
Thanks for sharing this neat video. That barn is amazing. I love the scenery in the east Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, and Tri-Cities area. That is certainly God's country. What a great place to call home!
Pretty neat. Thanks.
thank you!
drove by it many times, now i learned something Thanks
Good to see you two both again. Looking forward to adventures in 2024.
Thank you so much!!
Drove past this barn many times
Build a home in the Virginia mountain on Walnut and Wineberries close to where I use to live in Castlewood ,VA in Russel County
oh yes, Castlewood has some beautiful country out there
My mom's family was from Castle Wood Virginia.
My mom's family are from Castle Wood Virginia. They moved to Kingsport TN. In the mid 40's.
Always roll that beautiful barn footage
You know it lol
You may know that Gate City's own Mac McClung just won the NBA Dunk contest for the second year in a row. Which is kinda unprecedented in this day and age. I'd love to see you all do a piece on him and Gete City's love for him. He's a great and talented young man.
Has that rock got roofing tar all over it?
Pretty with the flowers!
I’ve mostly visited a few Noble barns in my day
Sweet! I love it. Hahaha...
Thanks! 😁
The crazy thing is, where did the rock come from?
I'd like to know how that humongous rock got there. It's so out of place.
aint that the truth
I liked the rock barn!!!! How fun!!! 😊
That was some beautiful bean I mean barn footage😂
lol Melody always stirs up something lol
I live in Sullivan County TN that's so cool 😊
Interesting for back in the day but not so much now they build houses in side mountains . but still cool thanks .
Is it really this green this time of year there? Wow! I'm in Michigan our trees are all bare and it's still 🥶
Well I would like to see you guys do a lot more Eastern Tennessee where my family is all from I would like to hear a lot of the TVA in Eastern Tennessee
It basically saves you material having to build one wall, so I'm not surprised really.
Thanks!
Thank you so much, we really appreciate it!
Of course, those who were around in the seventies, might remember the Prudential Insurance jingle:
... 🎼🎵 Get a piece of the Rock 🎶 🎤 😃 ...
Oh yes!
I don't get it. My neighbor's summer home is built over a large bolder. Maybe I need to call Ripley's?
There was a car parked behind it.
Great.
Tom, Belgium.
Frank was a hippie stoner 20 years ahead of his time.
Why? Seems like an odd thing to do.
I think he was just trying to prove a point
Y'all were just a couple miles from my house. If id knew you were in the neighborhood I'd have bought your lunch 👍
Ohhhhhh man I hate we missed it, always down for lunch lol
They got sued by Ripley's...
Believe it or not!
Come on get serious! You two.😅

Drone. They don't own the air space.
