  • Formed in 1981 in Osaka, Japan, Shonen Knife is an acclaimed punk-rock band known for its idiosyncratic songs with positive lyrics centered around animals, food, and fun. A best-kept-secret of underground-rock fans throughout the '80s, the all-female band's music was introduced to new audiences in 1991 when Kurt Cobain invited them to be the opening act for Nirvana's UK tour supporting the album Nevermind. Remarkably, Shonen Knife has released 21 studio albums, the most recent being 2019's Sweet Candy Power. While on a Houston tour stop, the band visited Skyline Sessions to record "Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)" from the Powerpuff Girls soundtrack, the title single from Sweet Candy Power, and the SK classic "Banana Chips."

@@princeeverlove The simplicity and charm this band brings is the most wonderful thing.
Shonen Knife taps in to the joys of childhood without being pretentious.
The music is so therapeutic to the soul.
In my opinion, when one asks "what would you want to have with you on a deserted island?", it would be the whole Shonen Knife discography, hands down.
