I freakn love this channel. I look forward to new videos all the time. thanks guys.
I love when it goes wrong for you men .. pure realism
Looking forward to this oil cooler install episode. I want to do a cooler for my Automatic trans in my Fit so I can run it in 3 for longer (I've never had someone to show me how to drive manual, but I really want to track my car. Keeping it in 3rd seems to shift it fairly aggressively, but it heats up like crazy when I do that for more than 5 minutes or so.), and your videos tend to not skip important steps.
well now that i already found pinouts myself for my car because most diagrams suck this lovely video pops up. where was this a month ago lol Good Stuff!
Dang all that customization is awesome
The thought is cool. But they are way to expensive. $210 per gauge, $210 for the controller. That setup for 3 gauges is very expensive and you still are gunna have to do almost the same amount of wiring.
They do - one is called Torque
The new greddy hologram gauges look pretty sick and would be my next buy if they are defí quality, if not aim or Motec dash with all can connections ftw!
You two should be the drivers for superspeedersrob challenge. It'll be cool to see y'all racing their cars.
Tell Superspeedersrob we'd love to drive all the cars :)
That Pod looks great
when ye guys tear the back seats out could ye do one of those rear strut braces mesh and carpet the way through like the performance hatchbacks without the back seats have? i love the clean look they have
tape all the wires together and pull em all through at the same time
Too tight! Wouldnt fit :(
Speed Academy that's what my wife said 😂
goto a rubber shop and get a bit of like plastic/rubber trim (like the door rubber stuff) and put it around the bottom of the gauge pod, will take up a bit of the gap. Should be able to get a nice low profile one that suits the style just have a hunt around. .
Sam Burrows Chrome/black/clear door edge protecter.
How do you like the gauges so far? How's the latency and accuracy??
Is the need for a an external sensor for the oil temp gauge a Ford thing or for all OBDII vehicles?
This video has been infinitely more helpful than the manual but Im having a hell of a time trying to fish a single wire through the vent hole.
second. nice weather is incoming! will you guys come to shannonville at all this summer?
Can i get a voltmeter too? My s197 doesnt have the IUP gauge cluster.
auto meter should make piggy back connections, so you can daisy chain the power for multiple gauges easier
I missed where the white wire connects to. Black to ground; Red to switchable 12V. What about the white?
Sweet cheers buddy
why don't you guys use the factory wiring diagrams to find your wire?
We tried but the factory diagrams weren't much help. It was unclear what was switchable power and what wasn't.
Does this work on the 550 too?
Just take it out through the rubber gromet and go to the fuse box main.
This is awesome
Good luck with boost gauges on factory turbo cars, these things always look at the wrong PID and you'll end up getting either: Boost commanded, boost expected or PSIa. Very rarely do you get a PSIg rating.
I wished the boost gages were better. They really need an engine bay mounted transponder with a Blutooth gauge inside, not running off OBD2
Call me crazy, but that tape looked like it was cut to fit in between the screw holes on the bracket. Maybe the pod didn't fit as well because you changed where the tape goes?
super impressed with these. Am i able to purchase them in the UK? Do the sensors have to be your own brand sensors as they might be more accurate? I.E. im lookings for coolant temp gauge as mine does not have one.
What car do you have? Have you looked at buying a £5 obd dongle? You could save yourself that $400 lol
Mullet Mustang has new wheels past few episodes. The previous ones looked way better.
I like my audi from 2000 that has a oil temp gauge right on the dash
Real ricers put aftermarket gagues...at least 10 of them
Pretty neat. With that said, I'll stick to Torque Pro ($5), OBD2 dongle ($15) and my smartphone for additional gauges. If you have kids, you probably have several cheap android tablets laying around you could use instead of a phone.
We find mounting tablets during track use to be a bit risky as they've come loose on us in the past but agreed, they are a much more affordable method.
Just nail it to the dash for added security buddy. ;)
@@BVM03or as Red Green always says, "handyman's secret weapon.... duct tape"
Rattle maker in the works
Does the flashing backlighting stop? Otherwise, they look awesome.
Yes, they only flash when they're either connecting to the dongle. Once they connect they're solidly lit.
Thanks for the reply. They look awesome!
Nice gauges, but still have to be hooked up to power/ground, and $420 just for one gauge with a wifi module. Technology is great, just not in this case.
Where do I go to purchase those gauges and the gauge pod I have 2008 Ford Mustang
JEGS has them
how accurate and on time are they
They're very accurate and react as quickly as the sensor reads which is fast
What happened to the front of the car?
Great SA video as always, but the product kinda seems like an answer to a question no one asked. Viewing an OBD2 output on a physical gauge is the exact opposite of what most enthusiasts seem to want; we can get OBD2 data for pennies using an app and a dongle, but we can't incorporate stand-alone sensors into that display. The AirDrive dongle seems to do that in some capacity, although evidently it's not sending any sensor data back to the app. If they had designed a module that could combine OBD2 data and stand-alone sensor data, AND display that in an app, they would have a home run. Also, the setup they installed in the mustang would retail for $800...i couldn't justify that to display my water temp on a gauge.
I agree with what you're saying but I've never found looking at a tablet to be easily readible during track use. An analog gauge is much easier to glance over and instantly have data.
And yes, the Mustang isn't the ideal candidate for these gauges, a newer car with more OBD data would be perfect. I always find wiring the sensors to be the worst part about installing gauges so these are a great option IMO.
The gauges are cool but they cost way to freaking much. I’ll wire in my own sending units for that.
Why are the flickering alot
and nitrous?
Those look pretty awesome, but daaamn they're expensive D=
you sure you don't have an oil pressure sensor did you try obd setting
Most cars only have a switch for low pressure but don't output an analogue reading to the ecu or obd
Yup, we checked and unfortunately no analog output for oil pressure on this car.
Wi-Fi will have a slow reading slightly
so.... what's the delay of the data?
can it be used for data logging?
I use the torque app.. a dongle to send, and my phone is the gagues...
$27 total...
try looking at your phone while going around the track....
I think you can also hook it up to a tablet that you mount in a decent place would be pretty good.
I had in my rx8 obd cause ...all can use .selling cheap usd100
Plug and play
is it as awkward to drive it with that steering wheel as it is to look at? I like the wheel itself, but it just looks so out of place in the Mustang...
It's actually better than the stock wheel but just too close to the stocks so we'll be adding a spacer.
that might be whats throwing me off, how close it is to the dash...
so 220 for the device plus 210 per gauge? hahahaha what a joke would save money by just buying aem gauges to begin with....
try the loaded potatoe wedges! much better!
Haha, we can't seem to find any that don't taste like microwaved cardboard.
the processed cheese and frozen chili really helps moisten up the microwaved cardboard.
Fucking a finally I was wondering when they would do this with since Verizon came out with the hum its similar but this is way better!!
Why not use the radio?
You have to tear apart all the trim and what not, easier to run it over into the fuse box.
Fuckin sweet yo!
how many thomas the tank engine apps does one guy really need?
This seems like a great way to allow hackers access to the ECU.
No android?
These guys are ass clowns there awesome I’d love to run a business with friends like them new subscriber
Thanks for the sub! Glad you're enjoying our vids!
There were so many easier ways to fish the wires down....
why didn't you just use one of the other wires you had cut off, to go back up to the top, then tape them all on, and pull down. Rather than trying to pull that steel wire down 3 times??
Because the 3-wires wouldnt fit through the small crack all at once. I tried and failed so it was one wire at a time.
Sheesh, you're doing this in a shop, just use their system to pull up a power distribution diagram. If you really want to do it "DIY" style, just pull the radio which is just under your gauges and you'll find switched power, ground AND illumination all in one place.
Then you have to take apart the entire dash, we trying to keep it simple.
It's actually far simpler than you'd think, it's just two screws under the arm rest to pull off the center console, then you can just give a good tug on the two garnish pieces on either side and bam you're at the center trim piece, It's not more than 5 minutes to have the radio out in these cars, which beats being cramped under the dash hunting with a test light and lets you work in comfort. ;)
No reason these should be more than about $100 for the dongle, and about $50 per gauge.
Kinda a bad way to show off this product when 2 of the 3 gauges need manual install of a sensor. Cool concept but obviously not very usable. It's clear that many people will run into the same problem. But hey! You can change the color with your phone!
We hoped that the ECU would have oil pressure but it doesnt and really this setup is ideal for newer cars that have all the sensors already in place, our Mustang is a bit old for these.
Please, Defi gauges on Japanese cars, OK?!
Those damn potato wedges..
jesus man update your phone !!!
Not to sound like a brat, but 2 videos a week is not enough
Oh man, if we had more time in the day and night then you bet we would put out another video but we can barely keep up with producing two a week!
Totally pointless unless ecu has all sensor outputs already. Whats the point in wiring up extra sensors to the OBD dongle then it sends signals back to gauges when you can just wire straight up to the gauges without the dongle being there like normal gauges....total waste of time.
A friend of of mine had a Bluetooth obd reader plugged into his Focus RS. It blew the ECU. Not worth the risk plugging things into your ECU unnecessarily.
First
Not liking it, sorry. Great video!
Hey guys, have you worried at all about connecting your ECU to WiFi? It seems like any flaw in the dongle's software could make it easy for someone to hack your car and push settings to the ECU... They could do just about anything, from messing with your gauges to blowing up the engine! I'm guessing it's not worth worrying about for y'all, but I wouldn't put anything like this in my car.
cowpoodle003 the dongle shouldn't be able to command the ecu to do anything, it's simply a receiver of information
cowpoodle003 yeah put on your tinfoil hat bro theyre out to get you
Typically these dongles are built around a generic OBD chip like the ELM327 which allows for bi-directional communication. It's unlikely that the dongle's hardware is built to completely disable this, so changes to the software could make it send commands.
Hey, it's your choice what you do with your own car. I wouldn't be willing to take that risk. It's already relatively common to hear about OEM keyless entry systems being hacked to steal cars, and even though aftermarket systems like this are going to be less common, I still wouldn't trust them.
ooooo soooo scary
cheap shitty looking pod. Matches the interior.
too bad they don't make them in non homosexual version for android users
They do have it for android...
thats a bit of an oxymoron
Speed Academy hahahahahaha that was awkward
Most useless
That's one ugly dash. It's like your driving a bus.
