September 30, 1987: the performance, a 16th birthday present for me, exactly 2wks. early. And from someone from the state I originated from: Illinois. This performance blows the album version out of the water. Such a shame he died. My aunt in Tennessee 😍his music. Am going to message this to her. Thx 4 sharing.

Sign of a truly great song: it’s a great pop/soft rock record being performed differently sung more soulfully with a harder rocking guitar and it’s not only still great it’s better

He never was credited with being an exceptional musician. He was a very talented guitar player.

And also a great piano player. Hell the guy could play anything. Saw him 9 times live, wish it had been 90. RIP Dan.

I never knew he could solo like that until just recently - I always thought he was just a soft rock singer/songwriter. RIP Dan.

I never realized how much sheer authority and presence Dan Folgleberg was capable of. And the guy could could just put it down on guitar !!! What a great song this was !!!

Dan can play guitar better than most great guitarists. As well as piano and many instruments. So sad, most people don’t know that about him.

Oh please…Shaffer kissed every musician’s ass who played on Letterman. But I have to say Fogelberg was supremely smart, a brilliant lyricist and musician.

I was a junior in college when I saw this great performance by Dan Fogelberg on Late Night.
I always loved this song, but I never knew at that time who sang it until this show.
Remember folks, this was before the internet & You Tube, so sometimes you could listen to a great song for a long time & never know that artists face until many years later.
Wow, what a great memory! RIP Dan.

He played a concert in Irvine CA back in the day. During that concert, he played every instrument on stage at some point. I also remember an interview with a top guitarist in the industry on TV many years ago. He said that all musicians who he interviewed to play with him were usually nervous and intimidated because he was better than everyone who wanted to play with him. He was an amazing talent.

oh my God, Dan is such an awesome guitarist. I love his sound the style. !!!!! and this is one of my favorite songs because he really knows how to rock it out and jam. I would have love to see Dan play with ,Neil Schon from Journey , and Tom Scholz from my favorite band Boston , all jamming out in concert that would be epic !!!!
