- For once a video that went from scripting to completion in less than 24 hours. If I sound tired, I am, I wanted to get this out of the way so I could get around to recording a few other projects for the coming weeks.

Quick amendment to this video, there was also an 0-8-0 version of this locomotive offered
And a 4-6-0
I got an 0-8-0 from model power in the DRGW scheme
There is also a 4-6-0, I have one :]
Dear Sir,
As a Brazilian, i am well acquainted with Frateschi (frah-tas-kee). They are the only railway models manufacturer in Brazil and, as far as i know, in South America.
Their models comprise most of me collection. Nitpickers always complain about their lack of details, scale incorrectness and DCC unreadyness, and yes, they are like that. But they are reasonably well built, cute and, quite important to modellers like meself, affordable. This final point distinguishes between playing with model trains and flying kites or playing with marbles. I have three 2-8-0 Consolidations like yours, each in a different livery (Central, Sorocabana and Paulista) and they work well and give me no trouble.
Am i biased? Of course i am. But i am also having fun with model trains! ;O)
Cheers from Brazil!
I had been going to question the pronunciation of Frateschi. But I don't need to now. :)
Years ago I had been the Australian importer of the brand. So I'm well acquainted with their models.
@@emdB67 Hello there! They used to make some of their locos in Argentinian, New Zealander and South African liveries. I don't know if they still make them, but i would love to have some of those. They re-launched the Consolidation in the Denver and Rio Grande livery.
Recently i had in me hands a Spoornet U20C, but it was in poor condition, so i didn't buy it.
Thank you for frateschi, if it weren't for her, model railroading would be available to us Brazilians. I don't care about the lack of DCC, just having a manufacturer of railway modes from Brazil is already good
It's nice to finally see a proper review and history on these models! They've been on my radar for awhile and many old friends I knew hated these, never understood why. I've wanted one for awhile, it'd make for a good model to backdate into an early heavy 2-8-0.
Fascinating review! I never knew of the original maker, always just called it the Model Power 2-8-0 lol. Ill admit at first I mistakenly thought it was an PRR H1, considering the model has the signature PRR "trash can" style air tanks mounted underneath the cab. Props to you for finding the real prototype!
This little loco makes a good platform for detailing and customization. It's a lot like the r-t-r Roundhouse 2-8-0.
This reminds me of the little Roundhouse (later Athearn) N scale 2-8-0. IIRC that was based on an early Baldwin loco for Northern Pacific.
Excellent review! I have four of them in my collection here in Brazil, three ten-wheelers and one Consolidation and I plan to acquire more.
It's good to see someone from outside the country appreciating these locomotives!
Oddly i have one of these in a Santa Fe No.504 pain but it is one of the most reliable engines i own, i have never had it jam, seize, or anything like that however im personally not a fan of tender drives but it is certainly better than a tyco Chattanooga.
I had one of these a long time ago and had nothing but problems with it from the start.
Cool trains!! I was actually only into cars at first then I was given some HO scale trains and now I have a love for both
I have a few of these as early 2-8-0s and 4-6-0 versions. They make great early , small steamers
I bought one of these years ago. I fixed it up as the N&W engine in the Virginia Transportation Museum. It's a great model, although the motor seems to have burned out on mine. It's now a static museum piece awaiting restoration somehow.
I’ve been trying to find the 4-6-0 variant of this for so long, when one popped up in a rare D&RGW livery for 30 bucks I didn’t have the money at the time
Thank you for frateschi, if it weren't for her, model railroading would be available to us Brazilians. I don't care about the lack of DCC, just having a manufacturer of railway modes from Brazil is already good 😊
Seems like a nice little model I'm going to half to get one but it really reminds me of a mixture of aristocraft 2-8-0 and roundhouse
I need a functional steam locomotive. I bought a UP FEF on eBay for over $200 and not only can it not complete a full circuit on my layout without shorting, the side rods keep coming off.
I bought one in the 90s brand new and redecails that locomotive in Southern railway.
My vote goes to the Tyco/Manua Pacific. They are generally solid runners for a budget price. Also, given they have only six wheel drivers, they will usually go around the common 18" radius curves which can be a hinderance for some larger steam engines.
I used to have a Pennsy 4-6-0 from them!!!
I might want to get me one of these locomotive's
Nice video! I remember seeing one of these for sale down here in Australia, I didn't manage to pick it up (I believe it went for close to AU$100?) but good to hear that they are good models. Interesting that the tender trucks don't rotate, what curve radius can it take with that?
There available again through Alcoworld, E-bay and a few other dealers for around $150+. And I think they can go around 18-inch curves. I have really thought of getting one...
I’ve found that it will do fine on 18 inch curves
They will run quite nicely on Frateschi's standard oval, which is about 14in
Super. 💙 T.E.N.
The model power 4-6-0 version is pretty much dead on to a couple of ex - N&W steamers a little short line by my house used in the 1920s.
More trains from around the world like India or Australia could be cool. Think of the modeling possibilities!
I got one of those, it fell on the floor and I lost one of the crankpins
I do have a Frateschi G-18 Diesel
Great video! I think these were made during different production runs, I have the 4-6-0 version and it is nowhere near as good of a runner as your 2-8-0 example (plus mine now has gearing issues) 🙄
i bought one earlier this year
(Edit): the one i bought was a ten wheeler from model power
I wonder how well it could pass as a Southern Railway G class 2-8-0?
My friend Grant in Pickerington owns one.
can u do a review on HO scale 4-4-0?
I have plans to cover the Bachmann spectrum one sometime soon
Does the front coupler actually work on the engine or was that your addition
It’s a static coupler that comes from the factory
is that a c-19?
It is called Frat-esh- ee, down the road from me, quality and very cheap.....

I have this locomotive It's a pretty good runner the only thing that could be better is the light doesn't work very well The light is Behind Headlight not in the headlight
Had one of em,i don't like that tender drive,i prefer the locomotive to be powered...
As a european I would say a used Märklin 3003
the IHC 4-6-2 blows it away
Not particularly in my opinion. The IHC locomotives are so hit or miss and lack pulling power, and it’s all for the same general price
@@cobramerciless the 5 i had were all great all bought in early to mid 90's my worst one could pull 50 cars sadly my POS brother stole them from storage at my parents house ....
