India halts visa services in Canada as diplomatic spat escalates

- Diplomatic tensions between Canada and India reached new highs Thursday after New Delhi halted visa services in Canada - a nation it claims is a “safe haven” for terrorists.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dropped a bombshell Monday in the House of Commons when he cited “credible” intelligence that agents of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government may be linked to the killing of 45-year-old Sikh activist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Speaking in New Delhi, India's foreign ministry spokesperson said Canada needs to examine its "growing reputation as a safe haven for terrorists."
Arindam Bagchi said that India's High Commission and consulates in Canada were unable to review visa applications due to security threats, adding that the situation will be reviewed on a regular basis.

Talk about misinformation. India was not supplying vaccines "free of cost". What they had was a licensed from Astra-Zeneca, which Canada bought vaccines, through a developement program with the WHO. It didn't even make a difference because most of what Canada used ended up to be Phizar and Moderna. There were local made "killed" vaccines but they were definitely of questionable efficacy.

I maintain what I said. Maybe if Canada stabilized and expanded its infrastructure, it could become a good thing again, but as things stand, kicking out those people, or having them pulled back by India is definitely a boon to the average Canadian. Of course, immigration also needs to be severely curbed... From everywhere, not just India in particular.
