- Some people have been saying that JVKE is faking his live piano performances. Is he playing the piano correctly? Or is there a trick under his sleave that we don't know?

never thought the transpose feature would be controversial, always thought it was normal.
The controversial part is making tiktok videos where you supposedly blow your piano teachers mind with your piano skills while not actually being able to play what is heard. He didn't even play the piano at all in those videos and he didn't sing either. He just played his song on a device while pushing keys on a piano without strings and we're supposed to believe this made his teachers cry in pride. lol An absolute fraud he is. He is as much an organic talent as all the boygroups of the 90's were.
The transpose feature isn't the problem. Even if he is using some tricks to perform Golden Hours live (transposing, looping, overdubs, etc) it still appears that he is actually performing piano to at least some extent. He's not faking his live performances. I do believe he actually has real talent in both his piano and singing skills.
What I think the problem is and that's so annoying to me is how JVKE promotes the song on CZcams/TikTok. He is very disingenuous by using studio recording audio in the videos of him "performing" the song on an acoustic piano for his teachers. The videos show his teachers very impressed by JVKE, and reacting in a emotional way. The fact that JVKE chose to not use the real live audio from the performance suggests that it wouldn't seem nearly as impressive to the audience if he didn't use a fake audio track. All of his promotion is to push forward this false narrative and is extremely dishonest. He tries to play it like he's humbled by the love everyone is showing him, but by posting dozens of reactions/covers of Golden Hour, it's very clear that it's all just marketing (most likely facilitated by the record label AWAL) to capitalize on the virality of the song. It doesn't seem sincere at all, especially considering that he faked two of his tiktok performances.
It's not about the transpose, it's that the original audio was not used, and a studio version was instead, where JVKE never said this, and people were complimenting and subscribing and sharing because they thought he could sing with fucking layers in his voice live.
bruh no way transpose is normal now
@@bobsmith12345 Especially not if you record videos of you impressing your piano teachers with your skills. lmao
Fun fact: Irving Berlin could only play in F# major (where 5/7 of the notes are black keys), and used an early physical version of the transpose function to perform in other keys.
yeah but i guess it was still played live as JVKE just played a recording and not actually raw sound of the piano (transposed)
@@scrapmechanicandlegoengine3096 he played it live? Just with the transpose button clicked?
The issue is not just that he transposed. It's also that on his TikToks where he's playing live for his music teachers, what we hear is a recording instead of his actual playing.
It's okay to CHOOSE whether you're a singer-songwriter or an instrumentalist, and it's okay to transpose; but it shouldn't be okay to mislead your audience, even if it's on TikTok.
But why is that a problem? I feel like ppl aren’t honest they’ll just hate to hate. That man ain’t bothering anyone😂
exactly
@@Jay-bj2gm Many reasons, but the biggest one for me is that it's misleading your audience. I like TikTok because there's a vein of authenticity to it. Videos are not shot beautifully and they are raw and real. I don't like that people abuse that and FAKE authenticity, like that instance where he plays in front of his teacher.
Another reason for me is that it sets up false standards for up-and-coming artists.
JVKE, and the song is still amazing though, that is a fact that no one denies. Amazing singer, songwriter.
He probably actually did play it for his teachers, just went over it with the recording in the video for more comfortable listening
@@Jay-bj2gm No, he must not lie. this is not hate to hate. He wasn't honest about it, with the tiktok videos, and when he was saying that he had no record label (he has one, AWAL, which is a child organization of Sony Music Entertainement). And a bonus point: He used transpose as an excuse but in some performence, he preformed on an acoustic piano, so how could he transpose?
Bro thanks for the nice explanation and clearing things
To be frank , if JVKE has troubles playing and singing his own song with ease , he could get some pianist to play the song for him so that he can concentrate on his singing
Thoughts too fr most people would sing better if they do one thing at a time John Legend is an example he would've sounded much better if he hired a pianist
That doesn't amaze the normies/muggles like playing piano while singing does...
Well it's a pride thing. Since jvke wanted people to see that he is multitalented
@@zagaraditya890 and because he's got a super weird thing about wanting to be seen as a musician and not a producer/songwriter. It's exactly why he pushes the "It's impossible to play Golden Hour on a real Piano; cause I played it in A=432hz"
Like Jvke; pianos have this magical thing thing you can tune, that if you think about it for more than 5 seconds, you'll realize it's kind alike a guitar. You can tune the strings on a piano..... His "A=432hz" explanation is just a lazy way of saying "he doesn't actually know what he's talking about, but he's trying to sound like it"
Hi frank
makes a lot of sense because i really struggle to fit my fingers between the black notes to play this song so playing in C would make it waaaaaay easier for a performance
I could see that I suppose, but c major is actually one of the most unnatural positions for hand, despite it being introduced so commonly to beginners. It might actually be more comfortable once you got the hang of it in a different key.
C major isn’t easier bruh
he look up for matthew bellamy muse style, but its like his piano note is more busy to keep up with vocals
Bruh it's easier when there's a balance in black and white keys. People just go with key of C because that's what they started with. I get it if it's on guitar but the only thing that makes it easy is because of the letters or either readiy sheet music.
@@wimpifyc major is easy .. all the white notes are easier.. black key are much difficult and need much power
it's not the transpose that made it controversy, it's the fact that he made a fake reaction video where he played the song on a grand (which has no transpose feature duh) and let his "teacher" react, and she cried, while he was not actually playing
and also the fact he just apparently doesn't know a piano can be tuned different ways....
what a clear and concise video + gets straight into the point. thank you
So can he actually play the piano or did he just learned that one c major part on the keyboard and transpose it every single time?
he can actually play piano but it's easier like Amosdoll said
did you even listen
@@mewity no i meant can he actually play the piano or was that the only thing he learnt on the piano and im just asking im not judging
@@iamme1468 look at the 1st reply
I think he can. I saw a video of him playing golden hour to his piano tutor who taught him when he was a kid
Thanks! Good job analysing this
Jvke is a C-Bordist or C-ianist
Also I always knew he transpose it since the beginning cuz I do it sometimes too
I C what you did there...
dude so much positivity in your video, so great to see. subbed!
I’ve always knew jake did this, it’s a common trick most pianist can do whenever playing on a digital piano
but the 1st frame of the video, jvke plays on a grand piano and not an digital piano and still white keys?
@@ankitkm-ttv there is a high chance of him playing in the Key of C, so he didn’t have a choice, when it comes to digital cuz most of his are digital so he can transpose the key whenever
czcams.com/video/ewU-qFM5Asg/video.html Klavier Iernen reviews Jvke's playing, such as multiple clips, but Amosdoll's video really cleared most things up.
@@ankitkm-ttv It could be one of those hybrid grand pianos that can function as both a traditional piano and a digital one (think Yamaha’s Disklavier pianos).
Correct it can make playing in certain keys A LOT easier this a trick i use somtimes when I play my Keyboard live
This was the most informative video I’ve ever watched haha thanks never knew this feature existed so interesting
There are plenty of videos where you can see him stop playing but the piano part continues with his hands off the keys.
Because he uses a looper, thats unrelated to tranposing
@@kabe6927 well as Klavier lernen (channel) dove into the depths of golden hours audio files, he found out that basicly any version or performance he checked they were all the exactly same audio file... singing and piano all togheter... so idk what you mean by looper but i personally am sure that it's all pre recorded. you can have ur own opinion (:
@@scrapmechanicandlegoengine3096 looper is where you play a part of the song that keeps repeating in all the song and push a button so you don't have to play as it is the same part over and over (really common practice)
@@Indiekidsophie ....... Not common for live parts where you arpeggiate (or moreso mime it) one instrument the entire time...........
THIS
As a pianist myself, I must say it takes much more skill to play in different keys than to play in C major. Even closely related keys like D and F major require some different fingerings and hand positions. I get it, he wants to sing while playing. Maybe it's common for pop singers, but it is not common in classical or jazz settings. That's like saying I played an advanced intermediate piece, Fantasie Impromptu, completely, but with the catch that the piano is transposed down a M3 (Playing A minor, sounding C# minor). My hands immediately do not have to stretch as much and I have less of a chance of hitting wrong notes because there are no real obstacles (like crossing or sharp/flat notes). It's wrong for many reasons (disingenuous to both audience and yourself, not played how intended at its foundation, etc.) as A PROFESSIONAL PIANO PLAYER.
Now that's fine because I don't think he prides himself on his piano ability. His main talent is singing and audio engineering/production, where most of his work is concentrated. If he is going to live perform, then he should probably do it in the key that he is playing AND singing in. It may be hard to learn different keys, but if you work it into muscle memory, then you won't have to think about it at all. Think about it- this is his most popular song. Some people know the lyrics by heart without having to see it. Piano is just the same way. Other artists can sing and dance semi-difficult choreographies and coordinate with cast members for a spectacular performance. For JVKE, the equivalent is singing and playing piano. What really hinders him is the fear of mistakes. That is the only thing holding him back from playing in the actual intended key (doesnt have to be studio version).
Piano is supposed to be non-transpositional. It is a guide for orchestras who do have to transpose (for mechanical reasons, such as same fingering for instrument families). I don't think it should be a tool to skip out like this, but to each their own. 1:20 there is no reason to transpose to C# major here at ALL. In fact, if he had just stayed in his C major, he would sing one semitone lower (which might be easier on him) AND the strings could resonate (rich, warmer sound) on their open strings. 1:42 I can hear the pitch bending and the artifacts each time he hits a note... bro why. Plus, he was alone????? why make it harder on yourself if you are going to claim, "It's hard to sing and play in different keys!!!" if you are going to strain your voice anyways? Oh well, to each. their. own.
I don't think less of him as a person for doing this, but I do highly question why he gets defensive about it in various video comment sections that call him out. Bro, just own up to it. His piano experience probably sits at intermediate or slightly above. His singing skill and compositional skills are way up there. I am glad his piano experience doesn't hold him back. Just like Irving Berlin like the top comment, he could only play in one key. "For much of his career Berlin could not read sheet music, and was such a limited piano player that he could only play in the key of F-sharp using his custom piano equipped with a transposing lever." Notice how limiting this could be. You can't modulate, you can't explore chord relationships, you are so limited in what you can do on piano. But like Berlin, neither of these artists are hindered because of these limitations. I would still encourage them to learn the music in the actual keys they sound, though.
(The best sounding key is Db major (but not the electronically transposed version of it). Maybe he is afraid of all black keys but one key?? IDK. change my mind.)
The piano probably plays by itself as he's milked the song so much, the piano probably got muscle memory from it lol
😂
Blame tiktok.
But I think as an artist, and especially as a performer, it's more important to nail a performance and let the audience enjoy it. Forcefully learning it in the right key will result in him not enjoying the performance and it affects both the artist and the live audience...
@@OnkarPawar00 ye thats the difference from a real good artist and a fake. A real artist can perform without any cheats, comfortable and good. Also faking everything ruins the live thing and the naturally in it.
@@MeerQy_Music Now that I think about it, yes, I agree with you. A real artist will always push themself to get the best out of them and not just find a cheat to skip the hardwork.
After watching this, I got even more respect for Charlie Puth 's piano playing abilities. Dude's phenomenal 🔥💥
Freddie Mercury and Queen back in the day had to take all theirs in one take.
technology has advanced so much...
What are you talking about? Bands back in the day screwed up in the studio and had to re-record stuff all the time. Bohemian Rhapsody is notorious for having fidelity loss due to how many takes and overdubs it took to get it to what we know.
Wow now I get why my fingers don't do what he does. But the song is still amazing.
Used to transpose but it confused my relative pitch recognition so I stopped doing it.
What about when he played it on a nonelectrical piano like a grand piano?
Although it looks and might sound like an acustic one, it still has some functions of an electric one. Let’s say it is kind of a hybrid’ piano
@@ricardograffegarcia1832that particular video is quite clearly faked; other than vocals it’s obviously a recording
electronic piano with a " stand" that is more acousticy.
Lmao well he gotta learn it in another key like everyone else
Man you are awesome!!!!!!
But he also played on regular piano 😮
sadly he fakes it, every performance he uses the same audio file as proven by Klavier lernen (channel) and JVKE claims that ever performance he played an electric piano but clearly at least some of them were acoustic with propably no strings to not disturb the audio file playing in the backround. even the singing is pre recorded
@@scrapmechanicandlegoengine3096 even Weaver Beats has a video based of it, where he takes the audio and flips the polarity to show that the phase cancels two performances out.
Dude, everybody knows you can transpose an electric piano, it's the videos him 'playing' a real piano and pretending he can play and that he is this really shy, sensitive little bird hatching his song to his amazed piano teacher. When you look at it you invest some of your own feelings in it, we live in a hard and fake world and then you find this glimmer of innocence, this spark of hope and veracity in a beautiful song. And then you learn it's very much a clever put together production: you just feel betrayed. You feel played. Yes I'm angry about that and you should be too.
Lmfao that video was so fake I wasn’t fooled , there’s literally studio sounds in the video why not acappella it
@@sheLuvsManny you might not have been fooled, that doesn't change the deceptive intentions of the creator.
@@frankwalders"you should be too" don't tell me how I should feel, commie.
I can get on board with the transposing, but how do you explain him not playing the notes at all during the SiriusXM and SXSW live performances? In the first one he was just using his right hand, but you can clearly hear the left hand playing as well. In the second one the intro was playing during the first few seconds of the chorus part, but he wasn't playing the intro.
Clearly he knows how to play the piano - you can tell by his hand movements, but I don't believe for a second he actually played these live. I'm still under the impression they were recordings.
But the real question is is he able to play piano not just that tune . my grandparent also can play twinkle twinkle without classes and practicing
exactly...
His hand movement is really fluid so he definitely has some level of practice with the piano
I find F, B flat, and G the most challenging keys. C Major is somewhere in the middle. B, A, E, and E flat are the easiest to me.
What was that type of piano sound he played at sirius it sounds beautiful
Ahhh that makes sense. It's the easier version haha. However there is a video out there when his fingers stop altogether, and the music keeps playing. So he is probably at least 70% fake! haha.
same thing i was about to say
well as Klavier lernen (channel) dove into the depths of golden hours audio files, he found out that basicly any version or performance he checked they were all the exactly same audio file... singing and piano all togheter...
@@scrapmechanicandlegoengine3096 That's certainly what it sounds like. He is probably a piano-sync player. Probably also lip-syncs.
On the other hand it isn't actually easier to play the C-major scale as all the fingers are almost in one line. Black key can help a lot when having to switch fingers quickly, I can kind of confirm this as I play the piano
Bro I would have never thought if that
Great video
man. I'm so used to middle C being my go to, to start a melody or chord progression that maybe I should start using that feature cause I'm bored of playing the same melodies.
Hey! Can you make a video of the key notes bowser used and if there accurate or not?

Hi can you make a tutorial of La Valse d'Amélie by Yann Tiersen?
This is very interesting
what about when he played on a grand acoustic piano?
he fakes it, every performance he uses the same audio file as proven by Klavier lernen (channel) and JVKE claims that ever performance he played an electric piano but clearly at least some of them were acoustic with propably no strings to not disturb the audio file playing in the backround. even the singing is pre recorded
When I first started performing I would use the transpose button. Every musician would throw shade at you for doing that. If you already have a solid understanding of music theory then it doesnt take long to be able to play anything (especially chord based or non-virtuosic) in all keys. But jazz or gospel pianists shouldnt be using transpose anyway.
I always play a song with transpos -5 it makes the song much sadder and it's a perfect bait for *_Attention~_*
What is the app used that makes the note pop up on screen when you play it, like all those piano tutorials use?
Facts
tell me how can he do it on an acustic piano.
I always used the transposer to make it easier to sing some songs i learned in original notes. It's just impossible without proper genetics or voice training to hit some notes. So change the basis =).
But ye JvKe got contoversial through promoting himself as original and doing that without transperancy you'll get exposed as liar.
But my thing is its just looks like a few notes what c sus and c major in the left minus a eb note going down I mean that's not really hard to learn tho but yup we keep depending on tech huh
As a guitarist, pianist and a singer who sings live, using the transpose button will actually make everything easier for me to sing it live. I could play and sing it live without having to think about the keys that I'm playing too much. This will make less room for mistakes.
But transpose cannot be used in a grand piano unless the piano is not tuned excatly
I think a huge part of being an artist is to be able to perform the art you created as is
He did. We are in the modern age, its dumb to pretend that things like the transpose button dont exist or are extremely rare. My £170 keyboard has a transpose button
@@Keeby. as is. He said as is. He did not play it as is. He pressed a cheap button to bypass learning how to play an easy song.

ye exactly, which he cant do properly
“properly” haha who cares? there are many different ways to perform music and he is doing a lot more than just pressing a play button
but what about him playing on the acoustic piano?
he fakes it, every performance he uses the same audio file as proven by Klavier lernen (channel) and JVKE claims that ever performance he played an electric piano but clearly at least some of them were acoustic with propably no strings to not disturb the audio file playing in the backround.
JVKEs are never animated correctly
Does a 432 have any thing to do with it
do you mind doing a piano tutorial of spring petals by cynax?
He is talented (If he really make those viral songs HIMSELF ), and I like his songs, like "This is what falling in love feels like" or "Upside Down", his songs are unique and awesome.
BUT the problem is he's faking and misleading his audience to think that he is perfect, he plays piano perfectly. It's OK for me if he just spread out the truth that he can only play the easy version, he's still talented af.
(And the original version is not that hard tho, why can't he just practice more)
yeah,, and also the piano teachers crying thing is just...yikes
can you teach us how to play it in cmaj
What kind of piano do you have? It looks and sounds really good!😅
Honestly the one with only white keys sounds good too
No shit, that's how keys work. He should just stick to the original key the lazy fucker. It would just take some practice
Can you do tf2 heavy’s song from the super mario bros movie and the pbs kids logo 2013 piano video up next for your pianos are never animated correctly series?
I kinda want that keyboard
Hi amosdoll can you do a tutorial on Attack of the killer queen by toby fox?
The fuss surrounding this is ridiculous.
What do people expect from performers? Who knows, maybe he wrote it in C maj and in the studio they tweaked it until they got the sound that they wanted? So what?
What's he supposed to do? Learn it in every key?
And as for the TikTok videos...do people not realise that ALL marketing is contrived? Do you believe everything you see on the Internet/tv? Its obvious they weren't live recordings in his music teachers living room or the shopping mall.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Now can you do a tutorial on the keys he physically played?
Besides the transpose, there are other videos where there are more keys sounding than he is playing... So, well, not all is black or white!
Thank you for defending JVKE, ive seen so much against him and even with my 0 knowledge of piano (i literally learned it just by watching so many of your tutorials) I thought it was common sense that he was using transposition. Its unfair how people are coming after him whilst being so uninformed
it's normal for guitar player to use the capo when they want to transpose their song to another keys since some are just impossible without a capo (due to the open strings, or the sound of strings on high frets). But piano is built different, it is made for you to play a song in whatever keys you want, therefore using transpose button is just you being lazy and not learning to play the song properly.
it’s not the transpose that’s the problem, it’s doing fake performances, and pretending to be independent when he’s actually signed to a label called AWAL.
@@birudanh6974 it is not him being lazy, it is to make it easier so he can sing and play at the same time. Jesus do people listen?
@@Jakk-o have u ever played instruments? it really takes time to re-learn the song, you just have to adapt to the new fingerings. He obviously has the capability to do it, he just doesnt do it.
I literally play piano. And it is literally impossible to deny that it is way easier to play in C major which helps him focus on SINGING which he finds more important. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him using transposing, it has nothing to do with laziness. It is still a decently difficult song to play either way. This is coming from someone who has played this song and sung it at the same time many times and it is easier and always sounds better when I am playing in c major. I know the song in both keys, and there is nothing wrong with jvke not wanting to play the harder version when there isn't a reason for it
Really cool of you to steal @werdemusiker Klavier Lernen's content without giving his hard work credit.
No worries... I'm good :)
exactly i saw this for a long time
BRO I HAVE THAT PIANO DOWNSTAIRS REHEHEHE
Can you please make "yandere" by Jazmine Bean (acoustic)
The problem with the tonight show performance transposition is that he played it on a Yamaha grand piano, which has no transpose button. So idk how his playing is fake then
Yeah it's easier, however, where is the harm in actually learning the correct notes? His comment on the other video implies that he wouldn't want to spend 100 hours learning a new key. So what are you saying? That other musicians, professional pianists even, waste their time mastering all the techniques? It's great that we have tools to use, but at some point you have to at least TRY to learn new techniques that make you a better musician. And yes I am a pianist so his comment annoyed me. It doesn't matter if you're a producer. Even other musicians make the time to do the hard stuff and get better at it. At some point you have to try the hard stuff and not limit yourself to a simple ass C major key. This is such a slap in the face to professional pianists especially those who play classical.
See if the Live Action Cat in Hat piano is animated correctly
Yes i agree that its transpose but when it is in tonight show he playe with a grabd piano
honestly we have to view it from an artist perspective but musically too making a song like golden hour sound exactly like the recording is hard specially with the violin and other sounds used. its just production also he is independent so he has to promote the song in anyway he can, I am not sure how true this is but I heard he made the song an octave not on a piano. I feel like this is being treated like if it was autotune all over again.
Nice video
Playing keyboard in transpose isn't a "sin" Its like playing guitar with a capo but it's doesn't mean you don't learnt to play for another key
I think golden hour is played on an A 32 piano or whatever it's called
the "uWu" tho
The "uWu" tho

Maybe he cant even play it at all😂😂
i basically don't care if he's really playing or if he is faking, but as a pianist i'm sick of this song bc it's constantly apearing in my fy page and lots of people ask me to play it
Yea, transpose is normal, but how can he play the same chord 2 octaves higher and still playing in the same position? A lot of performances he does that on the chorus part lol
JVKE's key depends on how he wakes up in the morning... just amazing how he can sing in different keys on different days and ocassions.
It's not amazing, just standard vocalist skills.
you can change the key you are singing in easily at any time, it's really not complicated.

I'm a classical pianist. Holding pop singer-songwriters to the same standard as concert pianists, especially when they're performing original music that is more about the delivery of the song's message than about technical perfection, is unreasonable and unnecessary.

I believe he purposely made his piano out of tune, because theres videos where people say they cant play it on a normally tuned piano
There's nothing with transposing, its regularly used
I think the problem is the new way of thinking versus the old school. for a lot of people who had studied music in the old days, presenting a piece of music by transposing it because it's easier, well... I'm sure the teacher wouldn't be happy with that. But nowdays we think that anyone could do anything, which sounds beautifull, but in reality bring some problems to the table. anyway its just time passing by.
nice
I use transpose every day
1:45 Have you even watched the whole performance? There are so many points where he is CLEARLY faking playing the piano. He first takes his hands off the piano, while the piano sound continues, there's also times where you can clearly see his shoulders making the gesture of playing cords but there's not a single cord being played in the audio. There's no denying the song is good, but lying to everyone saying you CAN play it, and he's just transposing it is a huge stretch.
But why transpose to start with it makes no sense, comfort is not a good explanation. As a fellow pianist I'd be disappointed in myself if I can't play the correct key or way of playing.
This makes me feel a lot less guilty for using transpose 😂😂😂😂
i use -1 transpose and play G-A-C-D-C-A-G
okay but how about the clips where he doesnt play the left hand at all
1:18 cute
Same job as a capo on a guitar
Now his music teacher after getting to know this must be upset
the key lol
Very impressive! Shall we connect?
