Adogg, a quick little anecdote and an embarrassing one of my love for The Beatles! I’m 70 yo now but when I was in 7th grade, I was completely crazy for them and, because of my all consuming passion for anything Beatles related, I failed 7th grade! I had to repeat the grade since my Mom wouldn’t allow me to make it up at summer school. I’m still passionate about their music as was my husband, Bob, who passed away March 2020. We were fortunate to be able attend a Paul McCartney concert in Houston years ago. He was awesome! Keep up your great reactions my friend❤️
I'm 75 now and remember getting ready to go out with my friends to dances, trying on dresses and make-up in my bedroom. The Beatles were everywhere there was a dancefloor. Keep dancing and enjoy your young lives - nothing lasts forever unfortunately !
They could write these 2 minute songs faster than a person could blink. Inside 2 minutes they could write the spirit of the times. Unbelievable...
They were an insane hit making machine.
This performance was recorded in Stockholm, Sweden on October 30, 1963 for a half-hour TV show called “Drop In” broadcast a few days later on November 3. The Beatles were only scheduled to perform two songs - She Loves You and Twist and Shout, but the emcee requested they play more, so they played I Saw Her Standing There and Long Tall Sally.
In other words, they did not rehearse this one.

Glad you like The Beatles Adogg. The energy is palpable and contagious! That's why they were so great and exciting when they first exploded on the scene. I was a teenager and it was a thrilling time. Every new song was a gigantic surprise and better than the last! They had the "Beatle Barrier." They'd have three, four or five of the top 10 songs (at the very top) for months on end. No other artists could break through to get a hit of their own. Hence the "Beatle Barrier." Their songs will never go stale. Greatest rock and roll band in history!
I saw them on Ed Sullivan in 1964; that was the start of "Beatlemania." What a time that was!
Actually Beatlemania was in full swing in Britain in 1963, after their second single, Please Please Me hit the top of the charts early in that year. 🙂

I was born in 1981, but grew up listening to The Beatles, because my parents listened to them as I was growing up. I'm 41 now and know every word to every Beatles song. It makes me wish I had been around in the 60s though. I want to be able to go back in time and see them live.
I did get to see Ringo Starr and His All-Starr band a few years ago though. Ringo is my favorite Beatle and I really enjoyed the concert.

I picked up my dad's guitar, grew my hair out and still doing Beatles covers mostly early Beatles
You look at this now and you're looking at essentially just another pop group with a catchy tune. Hard to believe these guys would very soon take over the music world (or, literally, the world) and become an internationally celebrated group. A 60 year old song that is still capturing fans today. John Lennon (the rhythm guitarist) once said that people would still be listening to their music 100 years from then. Well, it hasn't been 100 years yet but so far his prediction appears to be accurate.

George was 20, Paul was 21, and both John and Ringo were 23.
The Beatles were huge in the UK at the time, also they were big in Sweden and a few other European countries. But the US had never heard of them. They'd only released one album so far.
There is only one way to feel when you hear a beetle's song...

I believe this was a Swedish TV show with a rather well behaved studio audience. This was before their USA TV debut on Ed Sullivan in Feb 1964. Great performance
The Beatles first came to the U. S. in 1964, so this performance, a year earlier, must have been for British television. I could only guess the name of the show, but it must have been a show that showcased a variety of bands; we see the next band filing onto the stage during the last verse of the song.
It's for Swedish TV; the show is called Drop In. Despite sound balance issues, the whole set they played was fantastic, with the atmosphere building with each number, including a couple of roof-raising encores. Beatlemania, already in full swing in the UK was just seeping into continental Europe, thus we have the delight of seeing the Beatles perform that close up to their audience, with no barriers or raised stage etc. And with more muted audience reaction we also get to hear them, or at least the bits the primitive sound equipment allows us to hear. :-)
This was from a live performance on Swedish TV. Beatlemania was only just beginning to seep through into continental Europe from the UK and one of the delights of watching this now is that the audience, though excited, is not hysterical and the screaming doesn't drown out the music. There seems to be some sort of imbalance between the mics so the harmonies are not quite coming off as they should be, and did we miss a GH solo altogether? But none of this matters - the energy and excitement are all there with the band still at the stage of being hungry for success, wanting to prove themselves before a wider audience.
If you enjoyed hearing a little hint of Paul's screaming voice in this number, I strongly recommend you check out his cover of Little Richard's Long Tall Sally/Have Some Fun Tonight from the same show/ performance. In fact, watch the whole set - other than the unfortunately blanked out She Loves You, which you can skip over, it's all fantastic.

That is a good performance. George was tearing that guitar up, but his amp isn’t turned up. I could hear John playing rhythm better than George’s lead guitar. They really were a tight little band. This performance was way before my time, but I have always loved The BeaTles. Great reaction.

Right John's harmony was drowning out Paul's melody. I guess in '63, asking for a good sound technician was a reach. Aside from the mix problems, not a bad vid for the times. This was the British Invasion.

Agree. In general, i wish everyone getting their 1st exposure to great musicians would hear the studio cuts beforehand (wait, is that even possible without time-travel?).
Likewise, i wish people could read the lyrics before hearing a song.
I'm afraid it is what it is.
Sound technology was not so great back then. They didn't have the powerful amps that they have today. The Beatles invaded America in 1964 and music was never the same! The Beatles loved rhythm and blues like Chuck Berry and Little Richard, and Little Richard did a tour with them in the early 1960's overseas, where he taught Paul how to do that scream that you heard!
The Beatles were new, fresh, and a lot of fun in '64.

We thought they were original, that they were making something completely new. 'Took me a long time to figure out that these Brits were playing music that came out of our own Mississippi Delta. Mainstream white radio had never played Southern Blues for us. They were too busy broadcasting Frankie Avalon and occasionally some doo-wop. We'd never heard of Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf.
So when The Stones showed up playin' blues out of America's south, we thought it was a British thing.
That's how far the blues had to travel
to be heard here. 💙

Adogg, that concert was performed in the early, mid 60s. And it was performed in Sweden. 1963, I think
I was 8 years old and I bought this 45 rpm record for 30 cents. That only left 20 cents of my biweekly allowance. 12 for a new Archie comic book and 8 for penny candies. I still have the record.
This was a TV show in Sweden called “Drop In.” It’s just as Beatlemania was starting (before they came to the US!) Just realized you can’t even hear George’s guitar (I think the amp is off? But TV shows couldn’t handle balancing their performances back then anyway. The girls screaming doesn’t help lol.) But doesn’t it make you wish you were alive at the time? Yeah, me too.
......and this is how the Legend began.......the British Invasion had THE BAND........
this was from swedish tv and it wasn't mic'ed up right. george's guitar solo was completely muted and lennon's backing vocal over powers paul's lead vocal. but the performance does capture the excitement the beatles created on stage. the song was originally performed slower, more bluesy and with a harmonica. i guess it was george martin, their record producer, who advised them to speed it up and lose the harmonica for the recording turning it into a classic rocker.
it was the crowd who gathered to meet the beatles at the london airport upon their return from sweden that ed sullivan saw that made him decide to book the beatles for his u. s. tv variety show without ever seeing them perform. he said something to the effect that - any act that generates that kind of excitement had to be booked to appear on his show. and the rest is beatle history. upon their performance on the ed sullivan show the beatles conquered the world. thanks for the video.

Memories. I was in jr. high and even tho I liked the Beatles my friends and I ram around telling all The Beach Boys were better. Got older and enjoyed both very much.

1964 and a couple of years before that, I had a conversation with a relative who had come back from serving time with the RAF in Germany. He said to us to watch out for a terrific little group from Liverpool that he had heard there in a nightclub ,called The Silver Beetles.
I am mortified to remember now that I remarked scornfully that they wouldn`t get anywhere with a stupid name like that .
It's hilarious because John Lennon's Mike is wrong in the mix at least for this recording. It's way louder than it should be because Paul is taking lead on this. But at any rate, the energy here is freaking undeniable. And then it just feedback loops with the crowd energy and it's incredible. And Ringo's back there just bashing away, love it.

I've been a Beatles fan since the beginning. I rode my bike to Kmart the day the white album was released. This song demonstrates how The Beatles changed the direction of modern music.
It's always nice to see early Beatles live performance's. The one you try to react to are some numbers from their 1965 performance at Shea stadium in NY. Shot in great color and great sound. 56,000 crazy fans were there that evening and was the first time an event like this ever occurred. You will see the craziness of Beatlemania at its height, its a crazy great video. Stadium rock was created that night.
A crowd of this magnitude was unheard of. The video is titled "The Beatles Live At Shea Stadium 1965". Beatle concerts were all only 30 minutes long because of the fan insanity when the played. Anything longer than that would have put fans and the band in danger, it was that chaotic. If you can't get this one up to react to then you really should check it out on your own time. Probably their greatest live performance ever. Nobody in the audience could hear a note of music and the band couldn't hear a note of what they were playing and yet they were flawless. They has no fold back speakers on stage to hear what they were playing and only had 100 watt amplifiers for the fans to hear what was coming from the stage and nobody heard a note if music. They had to amp the band up through the stadium's PA system so it had to sound like crap.
I saw The Beatles live in Pittsburgh in 1964 at the age of six and its still seared into my brain almost 59 years later.
There were 12,500 fans that evening and most of them screaming teenage girls in attendance. For those shows in 64 they only had I believe were 30 watt amps. The technology just wasn't there yet to support a band like The Beatles when they toured America between 64-66. I couldn't hear much of anything when I saw them as I recall but the experience just to see them and the atmosphere is something one never forgets. Like I said, Shea Stadium is a must watch, major league history with that show.
Also, please keep The 3 stooges coming. If I remember correctly, I think that your last one "Woman Haters" was the first short with just Moe, Larry and Curly in 1934 or 35. Not their funniest but hey, it was their first one but they stepped it up real quick after that. Check out some Laurel And Hardy too. Great slapstick team !

I saw them live on Sept. 3, 1964. Couldn't hear that much because the girls around me were screaming and I was only 9. Many have tried to call The Beatles "a boy band". How many boy bands write their own stuff and play the instruments live?

As someone mentioned below, the sound mix by whoever created this master recording is bad. George's guitar is too faint, and John's backing vocals are too loud. But the energy is there. The Beatles never lip-synched on stage, not even on Ed Sullivan. They only did that in their movies.
This had to be somewhere in Europe. They never came to North America until February 1964.
In U.S. release, this song was the "B" side of "I Want to Hold Your Hand," which was their third single over here but their first "hit."

In my opinion George Harrison was the best beetle, he was so quiet and shy so he didn't get alot of attention. He had some good songs he wrote like taxman, while my guitar gently weeps, something just to name a few. His solo career was better then that of John Lennon

They didn't conquer the world with George Harrison songs, mainly because he hadn't written any. He wrote a few great songs near the end of the Beatles, but you can't realistically suggest he was the driving force behind the Beatles. It was John and Paul, and near the end mostly Paul.

To me, George’s harmony is the “sound” of the Beatles. They wouldn’t be great without him. And that smile he had could melt a glacier.
I love their performance here… but always shocked at how lousy 1960’s audio mixes were on tv shows. Paul’s vocals are way lower than John’s… drums can hardly heard at all.
This is a great performance, but the sound is horrible. You can't hear George Harrison's guitar at all, and Lennon's mic is way to hot. But, a great piece of history.

This is, without doubt, the worst recording of the Beatles, I have ever heard - John Lennon's mic is way too loud and the lead guitar is nowhere... The fact that it is still quite good to listen to is testament to the quality of the original - BUT it's still really BAD!
Imagine what it would of been like if George had been turned up.!
