  • In this video we look into a issue with the 2015 Mini Cooper D 1.5 Twin Turbo Diesel (F55), car will not rev over 4k RPM. We find out that the PVC hose is broken, and the Mini F55 intake manifold is packed full with carbon build up restricting the air flow to the engine.
We will go through the process of performing a DIY Intake Valve Cleaning using tools most will have at home, simple socket set, drill, nylon brushes brake and carb cleaner.
Once all the carbon build up is removed, the Mini intake manifold will be installed with new genuine gaskets, a new genuine PVC hose, turbo actuator placed back on the car having been professionally rebuilt. Only then will we will take it for a drive to see if the Mini Cooper D F55 is repaired and the carbon build up issue is resolved.

I just help my brother clean his carboned black air thing. Dumped it in petrol for hour then got jet washer for cleaning the body. Dumped a load of salt and washing up- Liquid then jet washed the air flow big black box thingy. My brother could not believe how clean it was. Jet washer got all the sludge and built up carbon out and the two air flow valves were clean as well. He was so pleased. See some times it takes a women some times to fix a boys toy boy car. 😁

Massive thanks for this video mate, been looking everywhere for one about these problems have the exact same 4,000rpm max, no codes but just swirl flap errors on ecu!
with the swirl flaps and I noticed a bit of oil on the side of the rod that the electric actuator goes into so not sure if the gaskets are gone on the inlet or just faulty motor. This has helped me out massively in how to go about on my bmw 1.5 116d👍🏽

Thanks, good video. The cracked hose you mentioned in the beginning of the video contained oil, ”has oil all over it”. Big question is: why is there oil in that hose???
I have the same issue on my car. The oil vapours from this hose mixes with the fresh air and causes carbon marmelade in the manifold. Any clues as to why there is that much oil in that hose? Thanks again!😊

    Hi
I have a 2016 bmw 116d (3cyl b37 engine) which i think is the same as you have.
The last couple of weeks i have noticed the engine lacking power, especially at high revs, it bottoms out at 4k rpm and wont go over. Its an automatic gear and gives good effect on lower rpms and when starting the car, but once it reaches higher revs it just stops producing power. The engine runs smoothly and shows no engine lights or warnings on dash. The car wont go over 120km/h due to low effect on higher rpm.
I read fault codes using a diagnostic tool and it showed an error: "Swirl flaps: mechanical fault during adaptation"
Just saw your video and i recognize the issues you are facing, its pretty much exactly the same i am facing with my car.
Has your car ran fine since you did this fix?

Hi, I have a few questions
How long did it take to remove the manifold?
And was the issue with the flaps a result of taking it off? It was the issue present prier to removal? Thanks

    • @FIXitBUILDitGARAGE
      @FIXitBUILDitGARAGE  Před 3 lety +1

I would say 1-2hrs, just a few bolts and clips - take pictures and notes as gets messy. The flap issue was present before I removed, if I used a scan tool at the start it would have told me the issue from the start rather than removing and replacing other parts first

Suffering the same swirl flap issue, car runs fine until EML light comes on then lacks boost. The light seems intermittent at times though and once reset the car runs totally fine for around 50 miles. Any ideas? I’m looking to carry out the cleaning you have in the video although was looking at purchasing a delete kit for flaps and egr, this requires coding and I’m unsure what would be required. My mini is a 2017 1.5d with 55k

@@williammatthews35 yeah In the end. Swirl flaps removed and actuator coded out, egr blanked and coded shut also with remap. If your cars in limp mode, knock off eml light and unplug actuator to swirl flaps. It will run fine then. I got rid in the end as egr blank would inevitably clog the DPF, or so I was told. Hope this helps
