2:40 Does the expansion help with replayability/making it heavier? Thanks.
from what i've read it sounds like yes it does both! but i don't have first hand knowledge of it, only the summary of it i read on boardgamegeek!
How do you feel the player interaction works?
Do you take decisions based on what you think the others will do, or are you focused on your own engine/tableau/hand?
It looks quite interactive to me, but at the same time it might also feel like the game railroads you somewhat? It's hard to tell without playing and feeling the decision space oneself.
there's definitely compeititon for the race to be the first to collect the sets of factions, and that plays a big part of your decision making in the first half of the game. after control has largely been established, the 2nd half becomes a bit more about focusing on your best game. and the game is very fast as well... 30 min for 2 players
@@rahdo thanks! I'm very curious how it plays with 4, since it will be significantly harder to get 'set up' in the first half due to much more competition for cards and spots.
Anyway, great review! :)
designer and artist?!?! 🩷 ty richard!
Meng Chunlin for both
Do you consider this too "take that" for you and Jen to be a keeper?
no not at all :)
I think, the art is is very derivative, if not downright plagiarism. He obviously (though skillfully) copied Kyle Ferrin's art design on multiple levels (in terms of motifs/characters, setting, icons, meeples, coloring, drawing style) without giving him any credit. I believe, a project like this, if there is no legal case to be made by Leder Games, at least should not be supported or given any media coverage. It hurts companies that try to be original and have put a lot of work into developing a consistent brand identity.
as has been mentioned several times on the two boardgamegeek threads about htis, kyle's work is wonderful and while original to boardgames, isn't without precedent in other rmedia as well. artists build on the work of others all the time, going back centuries. this is how art works. and there are artists and lawyers on the two bgg threads on this topic who point out the differences that make ming's work different than kyle's. i'm a lay person myself and don't necessarily see it, but i'll take the word of professionals who work in this space :)
