      Yes. Everyone in the British Army are taught basic first aid (and I'm sure the US Army is the same), and it baffles me how this isn't taught more widely. We are taught that CPR won't save anyone's life, but what it does is gives that person at least a fighting chance by keeping the oxygen flowing to their brain (so they don't become a vegetable if medics are able to save them). That chance is the best thing you can give someone in these situations, and imagine if the nurse weren't there...

    I go to the gym and feel like every single person is staring at me. This dude has a heart attack at the gym and no one even acknowledges it for a minute. This story in some weird kind of way gives me confidence lol

    • @obornyi2407
      @obornyi2407 Před rokem +273

      Here is a little tip: Do you stare at everybody? No? Why should everybody stare at you then? When I really thought about this I realized maybe sometimes someone is looking at you, but only because you are there. In their mind, they are occupied with whatever. When you walk anywhere, are you in your own thoughts? It's the same with other people, they think about whatever goes on in their life. You are just one person from thousands that they see. And one last thing that helped me: You will never know what anyone is thinking. What if you stress yourself about this one person looking at you, but he/she has the exact same thoughts about you? What if they think oh man I bet he is judging me or similar? I hope this helps, you decide what you think and how you think, only you can get yourself out of this way of thinking. Believe me, you can set your mind free and you will actually feel free. Sorry if I could not make my point clear, I am not a native speaker, but I had the same problems. Let's do one last example. When I am standing at a traffic light waiting to walk over, I always think about the people in the car looking at me judging me etc, but then I thought, wait, when I am sitting in a car and I see a person crossing the street, what do I think? Nothing really! I just see another fellow human going his way. And if I think something good or bad, he/she will never know. Same with you, whenever you think someone is looking at you, staring at you, judging you, you will never know if they are thinking good or bad about you, or if they thinking about you at all. You can't influence it, so don't even think about it. Good luck my friend

    This past June, my 46-year-old sister had a cardiac arrest while walking to lunch with some friends. Fortunately, they were next to a gym and one of the employees ran out with an AED. They also did CPR. That night, she was placed in a medically induced coma. Five days later, she walked out of the hospital on her own. No muscle damage to the heart, but she did have to get a mini defibrillator inserted on her chest.

    Sounds more like cardiac arrest to me. Especially if the AED machine administered a shock. Glad everyone acted so quickly to save this man's life.
