Watching from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. A small but vibrant percentage of our population is of Chinese descent from Chinese indentured laborers who came after slavery ended here and from various subsequent waves of immigrants. We've had a Governor General, Prime Minister, President, various Government ministers and members of Parliament and major figures in all spheres of Chinese or mixed Chinese descent. Chinese food is part of our national palate.
But yours is not part of their plate
I beg to differ, I have a Chinese friend with a wife and daughter. They come to my house and cook for me and it is of course wonderful. When it is my turn to be host I take them to a local pub/restaurant and they love it.

One thing we must understand about China is:you do not play around with the CCP laws and orders policies, there is no reason for anyone to be scared of the police.

I just subscribed. I find many people, either CZcamsrs, or just appearing in a vid have travelled far from their homes in some leap of faith to find their lives in foreign land really inspiring. I was sure the police just wanted to keep track of some foreigners that have permanent residence in China. I know most Chinese people are very understanding. Anyway, I don't think my own experience in China is similar to yours because I usually go their only for very short period of time for vacation or work. Good luck to you. Permanent residency is very hard to get in China. Even work visas are usually one year. It's the law to check in as a foreigner within 24 hours with the local police station and register your temporary residence. The hotels usually do this for you automatically.
When you rent the police usually need you to check in about a month or so if your have a 30 day visa, sometimes they just call and ask if you're still living at the same location and that's it. If you moved they will ask if you would like to remove that temp residency registration from their Jurisdiction. Many people in China have multiple entry visitor visas with 30-60 days. They are not legally able to work in China with these visas. Thats why they ask sometimes what are you doing in China for so long. Student? Working? If your on a visitor visa and you're working you might get in trouble. 😂 But usually they just tell you you're not suppose to do that. Go get the proper work visa.
If you have a longer visa they usually give you a call maybe at the end of your visa to see if you're still staying at your location or if anything have changed. Nothing crazy, it's just standard procedure.

It was a pretty standard process for foreigners to register at local police station if they intend to work, study, or live in China for an extended peirod. Trust me, police in China is very different from police in the U.S.
Crime is out of control in the cities (where you are from). The police need to get tougher. Hello, from the Caribbean. "One love" etc etc
You should be concern about the massive gun violence in Atlanta in the black communities.
