    I have to say that you are amazing to learn from. I am starting my own seeds this year (first time) because of the lack of plants that I was able to get this spring with the lockdowns. I have purchased my 4 foot lights and converted them to LED and have turned my one room into a grow room. This has given me something to look over and do as I plan my starter plants so they are ready the first week of May here in Ontario. Thankyou so much.

    I've been marking on my calendar when to plant my seeds indoors. Also, experimenting with cold stratification for some flowers seeds. I'm also looking at buying a folding lunch room type of table to make expansion easier. Last year, the 2nd year of my indoor gardening, I really ran out of room when I transplanted to bigger pots.

    @DanielW607 Před 3 lety +1

    I have been planning on building a garden bed outside for the entire winter now and have recently invested in a grow light, 2 10”x20” heating mats, and 40 cell 1 sq inch grow trays. It’s really fun to experiment with how everything grows before the actual grow season begins and to watch them everyday waking up from their dormant state and prospering. If anyone who is not sure where to start indoor or outdoor in gardening, don’t overthink it! I too was confused by all the complex terms such as “PAR” and “LUX” that only the professionals should worry about. In most amateur growing set ups that are small, most lights are sufficient and should provide what your plants need. Go forth and conquer and hope this helped 🤞🏼🪴

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 3 lety +3

      Hey great question! Before germination, it really doesn't matter. Once the seeds pop up, then its going to depend on your light. Some high-powered lights can be 2 feet away and have the same effect as a lower-powered bulb 2 inches away. Refer to the manufacturer's specs and err on the side of slightly further away.

    Even if I had the space to start seeds indoors, January would be too soon. For where I live, April might be a better time. The weather doesn't really warm up until June.
    Many years ago, when I was still living at home with my parents in Ohio, I had a magazine subscription and right now, I don't recall which one, maybe Mother Earth or Organic Gardening; but, there was a packet of tomato seeds stapled in the center. My parents house did have windows with window ledges. I started some of the seeds in a couple of pots on the window ledge about the kitchen sink. It was the window with the best light. The seeds sprouted and by the time the weather was decent enough so that the seedlings could be planted outside, I had 3 or 4 little tomato plants. I don't remember what variety of tomatoes they were; but, they grew and produced some decent tomatoes. Kind of like Early Girl size fruit.
