Did you see Linus's video on Plex. Thought it was interesting that he dropped them as a sponsor. I do agree with his point of plex is focusing on way too much junk that'll never use versus fixing bugs that annoy the hell out of me. I don't know how many times I had to label an episode as watch and it keeps coming back as played partly through.
Plex has grown in its platform, while it may not be what it’s core was about (meta data for pirated movies) it going the legal route to bring more content to get paid subscribers.
Great video Lon! I have a playlist that has a bunch of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc. I call it "The Idalis Project"...named after the cute VJ on MTV in those years lol! What a time to be alive!😆😁😎
I use my old 2020 M1 mini setup as a plex server. For speakers I just use an old set of Altec Lansing computer speakers with a $20 bluetooth receiver. Sounds great and cheaper than buying bluetooth bookshelf speakers.
Great to see the new features... but for those of us with an ARM NAS ( Synology DS415play) we can't go super sonic. Have you heard of any future updates that will help us out? Appreciate your content creation.
Is there any special type of NFC tag required? There are different types available. This is a pretty cool feature for sure. I have a long list of albums and don't like scrolling through lists to find what I want. I could slip these into my CD cases or vinyl and have the experience of looking through a shelf of music but then have PlexAmp play the digital version easily.
Ooh, follow-up question on the NFC tags. Any way these can play with home automation tasks. I really abhor speaking commands prefixed w Ok Google. Wouldn't it be nice to simply wave my phone at a tag and have stuff happen? In particular, the last thing I do every evening is drop my phone onto the wireless charger, but just after I manually swipe down to turn off the living room lights and TV stuff from the Home app. Seems I could place a tag on the wireless charger to accommodate this task. Possible? I had used the flic buttons in the past but found them too expensive and battery hungry. Plus needed an old phone dedicated to receive commands while out of the house on travel. Almost there...
I have a large music collection with very thorough tagging. I find Plex terrible for a music collection like mine. Even when telling it to use local metadata is regularly mismatches songs and albums to the point that it nearly unusable. Another major pain is the lack of Android TV support for PlexAmp. They spent the time to release a terrible Linux client but can't just tag the Android app to work on ATV?
Is the "soundprint" done locally? Is it stored locally? Is there a privacy policy? I could totally see Plex trying to make a buck from selling users' music library info. (I seem to recall them trying to do something similar with video files a few years ago that caused an immediate uproar because it seemed to be specifically designed to rat out users who torrent movies.) Also, I had no idea Veruca Salt was back together. I liked their album Eight Arms to Hold You back in the Nineties.

Plexamp needs to develop HiRes support to overcome the android limitations. Symfonium which is their closet competition also has that (as beta).

I think this is likely the same issue as with hardware transcoding - there are limits to what those ARM chips can do.

Yes this is all generated and stored locally on the Plex server.

ARM windows? I was able to install and run it on Windows 11 ARM.
