  • macmost.com/e-... You can buy cheap NFC tags and use them to trigger Shortcuts and other actins on your iPhone. You can set up a Personal Automation that automatically runs when triggered by touching your iPhone to a tag. You can also write information to tags that can bring up web pages and request other actions from any iPhone or Android user with a recent device.

And secondly I also stated that you cannot toggle or mess with the NFC features on any model before the 7 including your 6plus model but they do in fact have the capabilities to use NFC. On another note if you do have any questions I'm more than happy to help if you contact me directly. I would rather not have full paragraphs of me explaining information that this streamer missed because I would feel rude seeing as he took time out his day to make this informational videos to help people and I do not want others to think we are merely poking fun.

    The iPhone XR/XS (and newer) have background scanning (i.e. the ability for the phone to respond to an NFC tag without opening any specific app. You just need to bring your phone close to the tag.)
    Older iPhones (including the iPhone X) do not have NFC tag background scanning and an NFC scanning app needs to be opened and a user needs to physically scan a tag for anything to happen.

I can then use the app to READ that same tag, and everything is as it should be. But then when I use my own or my daughter's phone to tap the tag.... nothing. Now I wanted to use native background NFC so I bought an iPhone12Pro last week and man am I disappointed. The only things that more or less work are the sticker tags, the cards and keychain tags are not recognized at all or 1 of out 10 times. Even easyNFC won't recognize them anymore on the iphone12. You'd need to consult the documentation for your lock or ask the maker. They would need to build an app. Maybe they already have one.

    Wow! I only just updated from iOS 11 to iOS 14 and thus only just discovered NFC Tags and Automation. I had no idea the two could work together for this purpose, in fact I had no idea what NFC Tags was about. Now I'm just blown away by the possibilities for this.
    I mean I could use it to hide my ID (eg. my name, contact details) in objects in order to prove something belongs to me. Just code up a tag, hide it (stick it) in an object and if it anyone says "hey, thats mine" ... I can use my iPhone to prove that its mine.
    You could also use it to tag the date of when an item is opened, whether its a food item or other product you use around the house. You can code up an open date and expiry date or whatever.
    I have got to get me some tags. :D
    This is going to be fun.

    • @rick_terscale1111
      @rick_terscale1111 Před 4 lety

      Oh wait, there's no NFC option under Settings in New Automation in iOS 14. In fact the layout and options are very different.
      Just rewatched the video and maybe we have to scan a blank tag first and then the write option will appear?
      Or do we need a 3rd party writer installed first perhaps?
      Come to think of it, the Settings section under New Automation at 1:53 appears to be similar to Control Center, therefore it appears that Shortcuts is accessing Control Center in your version of iOS. Possibly?
      Which therefore would mean that all we might need to do is launch NFC Scanner from Control Centre, scan a new tag and then perhaps Shortcut or another configuration panel may appear to allows us to proceed with encoding the tag.
      Going to have to test out this theory...... unless someone else already has? Will need to get some tags first. :D

    Can you program your tags so that only you can access the info on the tag and not other people? Also, if you got rid of some old furniture, like an old desk, but you forgot there was an NFC tag attached to it, would other people be able to scan it with their phones to access the information on it? Or can you turn it off remotely?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před rokem +1

      The only "info" on the tag is a URL. Think of it as a printed URL on a piece of paper, you can't "hide" it from some people and not others. Anyone can read the tag and go to that URL. It is a very simple object.
      Now if the URL is removed from the site then the tag becomes useless. Or, if the URL is something that just activates a Shortcut on your iPhone then someone using it without your iPhone wouldn't be able to do anything with that URL anyway.

    • @macmost

      There are special tags, I think, that are write once. But keep in mind that if a tag is out of your control (in public) someone can also just remove it or replace it. They don't need to rewrite it.

Thanks, MM.
