- ((((How long is a rod?....Portages are still measured in terms of "rods", one rod corresponding to 16.5 feet or 5 meters. There are 320 rods per mile))))
Wanted some time on the water in the BWCA.
T'was good.
I'm thankful.
Shug - Zábava
I was once a simple hammock camper and backpacker. Then, I saw Shug take a canoe trip. Since Saturday, I am now officially the owner of a Swift Keewaydin 14 Pack. Shug, you made me happy. My wallet, not so much.
Sweet boat. Money well spent.
Sweet. I am enthralled by those pac boats. Want to rent and try sometime. Your wallet will recover! Whoooooooooooooooo Buddy)))))
@@shugemerycase in point. I bought a sweet kayak off of craigslist last summer and my wallet did in fact recover!👍🏼😉
10 years of watching and I never, ever get tired of watching Shug lollygagging in the woods of the BWCA. Thanks for sharing your great times with us Shug! I selfishly want longer videos but gotta let the man enjoy his time out there so I get it haha. Hope you got 10 plus years left of lollygagging! Best to your family and you!
Thanks. Part 2 will be longer unless I end up splitting that. Lollygag Life!
Didn’t look through all the comments but the bug shell on the rock is what a dragonfly crawls out of. Great video as always!
Thankee.
Oh no Joe! (Gave you a broken canoe) Glad you fixed your yoke. whew! I shall be on BWCA's glorious waters in one week!! 🤘
That broke yoke gave me a good project for the trip...and video. Enjoy your trip up in the glory.
Emergency field repair. Well done my friend well done
Boy Scout training ruled the day! Glad to hear from you. Was thinking of you whilst I was out there. The big yellow dry bag serves me well~
Thanks for taking us along, Shug! Woo Buddy!!!
Whoooooo Buddy and thankee.
Especially lovin' your "canoe treks" !!!
They are much more prep work than backpacking but a whole different vibe. Thankee.
@@shugemery That's why I am loving yours so much...that's what I do canoe and camp with a hammock...enjoy all your reviews!
fantastic sunrise on day 3!
your pancakes are gluttonous.
repaired yoke w/ paracord, essential .
good health to do this...thankful
I gotta enjoy health a lot more now.........and thankful. Being more thankful way give me good health.
Thank you for sharing your adventure! My wife Deb and I really enjoyed your video. Cheers!
Thankee ya'll. Whoooooo Buddy))))
I threw my back out yesterday. I get up this morning, somehow suffered into making a cup of coffee and I sit down on the couch, open up CZcams and live vicariously through Shug.
Ouch. Would hate to throw out my back on a canoe trip. I keep a lidocaine patch and Doan's Pills in my first aid kit just in case.
@@shugemery I can't figure out what I did. The only thing I had done yesterday morning prior to it hurting was opening a window. I guess I reached in at just the wrong angle...
@@RickMunday It is usually a small thing that tweaks our backs. I threw mine out once reaching behind me.
The legend of the North Woods returns...
I'm just an old man in a dirty hat with a skeeter on his face...haaaa
Beautiful sunrise at 22:17 wow!
It truly was~
Shug I love your bass runs in your video. Much better than the mandolin. Thank you so much for taking us along. It was wonderful. Be blessed my friend. John.
Thankee. Enjoying the bass and some low-end a lot.
Greetings from NorCal. A guy where I go hiking rigged up his little canoe with oars and a pontoon, he moves faster than a rat on crack. Only problem he faces backwards. Like your vid Shug.
Yessir....I've seen rigs like that. Would be a tougher portage!
It looks like you had a fun canoe trip with the hammock and food. 👍 I'm behind on watching videos again, but your part 2 will be next soon. Wooooo Buddy:)
It was a right goodie. I've not had the urge to camp since. I like messing around at home in the summer. So I feel a wee behind as well.
My favorite outdoors CZcams channel by a long shot!!
Thanks and thankee.
🥺 much obliged for the tag along Mr. Emery. Waiting patiently (drumming fingers looking at the clock) for the rest of the tag along. WHOOO BUD-DAY!
Thankee. Maybe out Friday....Saturday. Think it will end up a 3 parter. # shorter ones rather than 2 longer ones or one real long one.
Great video Shug! I always enjoy your offerings though! Its warmer up your way than it is here in the south! Enjoy!
We are doing the weather switcharoo!
Great video!
Beautiful views! Can't wait for the next one!
Woooo buddy!
Thankee. I'll get part 2 out in a few days.
There's nothing like canoe tripping! Can't wait till the next video.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Shug loving the bass riffs. My bride makes a banana pudding with short bread cookies & tops it with the chessman cookies. It’s oh so good. Loving the sun rise shot.
I bees loving the bass. Man that sounds good. Gonna have to try that. Made a 'naner pudding pie a couple weeks ago. Dee-lish
hammocks, Shug, BWCA, canoe, some bass tracks, YES. very nice. thank you for taking us with you. I know that means a "few" dozen more steps, paddle strokes, and mosquito bites, so really appreciate it.
Once you start filming it gets a bit addictive and all the work just becomes part of it. Thankee for the goodly words.
Awwww Shug! Glad to see you had a fun time! And breakfast at 7h, way too early for me ..... EARLY ! :D
I got up EARLY a lot on this trip. Sun pops out at around 4:30 AM or so.
Here I am thinking Joe Robinet and Shug should do a canoe and camp collab. I think it would be great and hilarious the two of them together.
Sounds fun.
Hey Cuz…. It is hot n muggy here in the panhandle of Florida… it is good to see you again and thanks for bringing us along through the camera lens.
Cuz! Sweat running down your back in Florida! huh. Tallahassee?
A year ago today we was up there in the BWCA on birch lake. I miss it so much ... Thanks for taking us with you as always!!
Time for you to start packing......
You are one of my heroes! You are a sponge when it comes to soaking up what God has given you to enjoy. And I appreciate your fearless consumption of food, as I am your same age, retired, and enjoying everything tomorrow brings. Thank you for sharing yourself with us bug addicts!
Thankee. I think eating is open game when camping.
Thanks for sharing the journey. I had a two man trip where we had the yoke snapped in the middle. We had three paddles and I had to lash those fresh for every portage because I jury rigged the three paddles we had as a makeshift yoke. It was still a memorable trip down the Petawawa.
Improvising a fix in the backwoods is pretty satisfying righto~~~
Shout-out from Brevard, NC. Like your Table Rock t-shirt. Thanks for another great Shug video as I load the pack for a short 13 mile overnight loop in Doughton Recreation Area, NC tomorrow - Friday.
I love Brevard!!! Guy sent me that shirt and I were it a lot. Hope your trip is tops
``
Always great to see you, my friend! Stay safe and sending good vibes.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Woooooo BUDAAAAAYY! Love these new canoe trips in the BWCAW, Shug. Looks like you're having a blast! I know your first fish is just around the corner. Im predicting a Northern Pike as your first catch.
My fishing skills are very lacking!
That grilled cheese. Girled cheese as I like to call em. That looked mighty mighty girly. Great trip!
So good~~~
Greatly
enjoyed that man, as I sip my evening rum. Thanks man!
Sip on feller!
Ah, the double bladed paddle...good to see. I miss the days of the BWCA. "I shall return." Thanks Shug!
That paddle worked really well in the windy conditions. Takes a wee less thinking for me.
@@shugemery Feathering those blades are ideal in the wind. Perhaps you can make your way to the Sleeping Giant, just be sure to go through there on a calmer day. Good luck, just remember to weight your stern with the wind behind you.
@@MstrRo1 Good intel.
@@MstrRo1 I did try feathering but was not crazy about it so went with what felt good at the time. Thankee.
Thanks for the new video.
2 weeks into post surgery extreme boredom with my neck brace on.
Remember to do your physical therapy with vigilance. It takes time but you will be back.
The sweet bass runs, the hiking, the hammocking, the wind and the rhyme! Yet another snippet of Shug heaven! Thanks for sharing mate!
Appreciate that for sure.
A dream trip for sure. Whenever a paddle cuts through the water I love watching the spirals left behind and then listening to the kerplunk of the next stroke. 💦
Truly~~
Great trip vid sir! Love the sweet bass licks. Outstanding
Appreciate it. Truly enjoying bass.
Nice shots of the beaver at 6:48 ! Wow!
She always comes to say hello.
Love the funky bass...
I love trying to play the funk....thankee
Love your videos. My uncle and I are planning on taking a week long trip up there next year and I can't wait!
You will so enjoy it. Thankee.
I knew the G&L was going to be busted out in the outro. Thanks my friend.
You know it!
Hi Shug! The videos featuring your trips are my favorites. Thanks for taking us along.
Mine too. Thankee. They are the easiest to make because they just play out....
I'm guess the canoe's magic was not so mighty. Imagine if you had been caught in an Nor'easter in that unseaworthy thing. Great video Shug!
It got me through to the end. And was free! I'll take that.
Hello Shug ! Always a breath of fresh air in your videos. Them skeeters were mighty intense , I think I heard them trying to carry your camera equipment away. LOL 😆.
I go just expecting the skeeters to be there and be annoying. Sort of like in-laws!
This is a very pritty area there around you. I like the Video and now I am waiting for Part two. Greetings from your Cyberfriend Wolfgang.
It is a treasure. Hope we can protect it for a long long time. So quiet to there. True wilderness.
As always, love the vid Shug! Keep on getting out there for all us who can't right now :)
Is camping banned due to the fires up your way? Hope it all get gone soonest. Be well.
@shugemery not yet...similar to the rules you guys are under... No open fires of any kind since some time in May, and only fuel canisters for outdoor cooking i think it is. It's so smokey right now that camping would be nasty. Need a few weeks of rain up here and some much cooler weather...not likely in July though.
Yessir Cuz you pegged it…. Been here in tallahassee 31 years grew up in Apalachicola
Down on the coast
Did the country fair in Tallahassee years ago. Had a good sweaty time down there. see good BBQ and fish. I seem to recall a lot of Spanish moss in the trees.
When we use Tuscarosa we always get a tow to American Point. Cuts off half a day of paddling and gets you away from the crowds. This year we are doing North Quetico, so going in from the Canadian side.
Heard of towing but not all that familiar with it. I'm pretty much up just to paddle on. Enjoy that Quetico trip Kurt.
My favorite trip so far has been my 60 mile paddle down the Colorado river of Texas. Hammocks and Kayaks just mesh well together. I only wish that my full pack fit onto my kayak, I have to break down my whole bag to fit everything into the hull of my kayak. Also, god forbid I flip everything stays in the yak and dry!
River trip is on my bucket list. Sounds really special going downstream.
fun trip . the beaver was thinking, hey I think that's the guy from last year.
Haaa....I think so too.
Was not expecting to see Steak- ummmms lol an oldie but a good one . Thanks
Nor was I~~!
Nice! That offered a nice remembrance of last June when I stayed in the same bunkhouse and paddled through Tuscarora and beyond. Can’t wait for part two! 😉
I like it out on that end and the simplicity of Tuscarora. Just breakfast. Very clean. The flower planter by the door. Good stuff.
Love the bass lines in between shots shug. Really different
Thankee for that. I am just so enjoying playing the bass. Those low tones.....
Really diggin the Base Shug!
Thankee for that. I an truly enjoying playing the bass.
Shug on the water and shug on the bass whoooo buddy
Appreciate the water. LOVE the bass....thankee.
Awesome Scenery!! Thanks Shug for taking us along.
I felt you along on the trip.
Happens to me over and over. Shug uploads a new hammock video, next thing I know, I’m hanging with the trees. You sir, are an inspiration.
I do exploit laziness and lollygagging.....someone has too~
Thanks for sharing your trip! Fun footage and your commentary always makes me smile. Thanks for the positivity-infused insights and unique perspectives on life. You do you!
Was a pleasure. Thankee for the good words.
Steak-ums!! They are surprisingly good. 🖖
Memories of being a hungry teenager~~
This is getting me so pumped for my trips booked this September. The first trip will be Missing Link Lake, and it will be my first trip with my father. I have not been there, but he used to go there with my late grandfather. Thanks for sharing.
Whoooooo Buddy))) If you get a change portage over to Snipe Lake.
Love the bass music on the portage montages.
Thankee so much. I love slipping the bass into the videos. Loving playing it.
OMG… my first thought when seeing the Steak-Umms was “I didn’t know they still made those!” Then you said it. Lol. I’m gonna have to look around for them now.
I used to love them in high school. Cooked in a minute.
Your bass is coming along Shug and sounded great
Thankee for that. I have been really going at it. Mainly because it is enjoyable. Loving playing music in a new way.
This area looks magical. It looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing. Keep hitting it.
I feel I was just anticipating it. Trips fly by so quickly.
Hey shug, looking forward to part 2
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Great video as per usual! You turned me on to the Thermacell last year and it has made a world of difference with the skeeters!Lifesaver!
Was truly helpful out there. Especially for coffee from the hammock in the morn.
Dang, sweet time. Great to see you enjoying and exploring!
Thanks for sharing.
Tootling around out there was a good time. Never know if it will be the last.
Last night was an experience, Shug your trips always, make me relax and smile, and feel the tiniest bit jealous. Man, those are beautiful views.
Pretty stunning out there. Happy to live within 5 hours of it.
I enjoyed that. Just wanted to thank you for the hammock advice. Been playing around with hammocks for 15 years or so. But only upped my game in the last few years. I've been using them for ecological surveys etc, never quite got a brilliant night's sleep, but that never mattered as I had to get up regularly, and at first light. Thought I better master the sleeping all night. Now I've got too good at it, drop off to sleep as soon as I get in it, and when I wake up at first light, I don't want to get out, which is not ideal when I need to. All thanks to yours and others sound advice.
Happy to help with hammocks. They take a bit to get right but that good snooze in the woods is very worth it. And yes...hard to want to get up sometimes.
Good to see you enjoying nature once again. 👍🇨🇱
Nature told me to "scram...beat it Bud. Git. But come sometime." Nature is weird that way.
Hi Shug. Thank you for posting your videos. I enjoy watching and getting ideas. It reminds me to plan to get outside more often. Also I watched your Warbonnet videos last year which helped me decide on my purchase--thanks!!!
Glad to hear all that~~
Thank you for taking us with you! I got to go to boundary waters one time and swore to myself that I come back someday… until then it’s nice to see it through your lens and so glad it didn’t fall in the lake this time! Beautiful country up there I can’t wait to replicate your trip! Happy trails shug!
Make time to go again...it awaits you~~
Liking the bass riffs Shug...
Thankee so much. The bass has made music even more fun for me of late.
Only thing funnier than a clown... a clown tying knots. Shug, I was thinking of you yesterday while grocery shopping, I checked for Peanut Butter when I walked passed the Pop-Tarts. No joy. The bass pluckin' is coming along nicely.
I look at the Pop Tart section every time as well. Always sigh. Thankee on the bass.
Longtime fan of your videos, Shug. Finally stopped making excuses and got out there and did some solo hammock (car) camping. Can’t wait to get out there again, maybe even do some backpacking. Thanks for all of the videos over the years, love seeing the sunset (and your smile) over the Boundary Waters.
Solo is an acquired taste. Sometimes i get sick of my own company! Thankee for the good and kind words.
Always love your videos!
Thankee.
You're still awesome bro. Well over a decade watching. By the way you taught me a lot about hammock camping in the beginning when it wasn't cool
I miss the old days when hammocks were not cool....haaaaa!!!
Morning Shug, enjoyed your video as usual. Makes me want to go kayak camping. Woo Buddy!
I think you should pack up and go!!!
Watching your videos inspires me.
I’m going up to the bwca (angle worm trail) this coming weekend.
I haven’t been to the bwca in over 30 years, your videos have me inspired
Enjoy up there. Check out Whiskey Jack. I like that site best.
Great trip, first you inspired me to get into hammock camping and now I bought my first guitar at age 60. The bass is sounding smooth.
Enjoy the guitar. Play at least 15 to 20 minutes daily. Daily is important for muscle memory. Be patient and learn your chords. ENJOY!!
Hey bud, sounding pretty good on that base. Have fun brother!
Hey Don. Truly enjoying learning the bass in my retirement. Summer always make me think of the old two-a-day practices at West.
Love the BWCA! Thanks for taking us along. After paddling in an all day deluge we came up on that site on Tuscarora and I wanted to be done, but I was out voted and we moved on!
No decisions like that on a solo trip!
Shug, on another subject - hope you caught the British GP. If I remember right, Lando Norris is a favorite of yours. Huge improvement by McLaren for this race. I love Max but good to see more competition out there on the track. Take it easy.
Celebrating P2 and P4...I was glued to the Grand Prix. Landos start...amazing!!! Thankee for the thought.
You are truly inspiring me to do a Solo BWCA trip, that looks fantastic. And the last time I was in the BWCA was back in the early 90's with a fun group of people. It was basically my first ever backpacking trip, good memories.
You do need to enjoy your own company. After 7 days I tire of myself!!! haaaa
@@shugemery Yes, when I do my solo I will probably just do a shorter trip to start with.
Good Lk Trout fishing on some of those lakes you hit.
I'm a pretty haphazard fisherman. If I ever catch one maybe I'll get excited about it.
Haven't been on a virtual trip with you in quite some time... Thanks for sharing! Great times.
Thankee for cybering along. No soggy feet your way.
I want to get out to the BWCA badly! It's on the bucket list. You are lucky to be within a drive to the place. Good stuff man!
I do feel lucky to be close to the BWCA. Make time to do it. It is magical.
Took my scouts to the Boundary Waters - the only other trip that compares was hiking from - one side to the other - of the colorado rockies. Gotta get back up there. Those mosquitos are viscious towards everning. Thanks for taking us along
In the evening and in the morning. I just expect it. My scout training came in handy repairing the broken canoe yoke.
Awesome views. Realy jealous its super steamy hot down here. Love the conue trips.
I grew up down South so I feel ya'.....
Exploring in a canoe looks like a blast. I'd love to do some fishing out there. Great looking meals. Thanks!
I'm a lousy fisherman but when I see folks pulling them in I alway hope I get invited for shore lunch!!!!
I saw your Table Rock tee shirt at the start. I found out about the Foothills Trail because of your videos; my friend and I thru hiked it this spring. Thanks for all that you do! One day I'll have to make it up to the BWCA, it looks beautiful.
Good trail for sure. Check the Art Lab trail as well. Great trail! Hickery and I did it and loved it.
I loved the bass inserts! Sounds like you've been practicing a lot!!
Thankee padded. I have been putting in time on it. Mainly because I enjoy it. Just fun to play. Part of my retirement plan.
Nice bass grooves Shug.
Appreciate that. Been playing daily. I truly enjoy it.
Lovely scenes. I'm fairly sure I capsized immediately upon getting into our canoe embarking on a multi-day trip in that exact spot where you did. I didn't lose my Crocs!
Crocs are like teeny canoes.....
Cool trip so far, I appreciate your frontier fix on the seat! I dig that you're cooking a little more on this one, but you're giving me some good ideas on expanding my food selection beyond just boiling water for a packit meal. Looking forward to part 2 and/or 3??
I never cook on backpack trips but always will on canoe trips.
Donicker CSI!! 😂😂😂 That made me laugh out loud, good one Shug!
It is a wee passion of mine. Lets one know the flow of the site.
... Love the outing ,, always love seeing vdeo's of the BW area ,, a strong desire to paddle and fish but probably won't happen .. Thanks for sharing ... Stay Safe ..
We all dream of something we may never do. The desire may make it happen.
Wonderful place, waiting for part 2.🙂
Thankee. Might be a week or so.....
You must not have bears there because that breakfast would’ve had them sitting next to you here in the Smokies!
There are but not as human conditioned as the Smokies.
