    I just found your site, and just finished watching the 4 hours of your river ride in the Yukon. Just amazing how terrific your video work is….always amazed how you do the drone videos from above as you fight the rapids, or head out in the airplane. I am old enough to be your grandfather, but am living through your incredible talent. I just loved how low keyed your comments were, along with music that was never overpowering. Looking forward to watching more of your outstanding work. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.

    Hello Jim.
    My first time on your channel.
    CZcams suggested this video and I clicked it.
    At first, I thought, 2 hours, I'll skip over most of it, but I didn't.
    For me I enjoyed the tranquillity of the adventure and the scouting way of making camp every day.
    Enjoyed the hikes up those pretty desolate and beautiful mountains and the fishing.
    At the end of the 2 hours I realised, oh heck, I'm in for 4, lol.
    Just completed Episode 2 and I must congratulate you on your filming and time taken to show every detail, angle and aspect of your adventure.
    I'll never get to the Yukon, live in Cape Town, but you did it for us, thanks.
    All the best.
    Cheers.

    “Keep working” you are not working Jim, you are living the dream my friend !!! Looks like the channel is growing and you’re doing good but we all know it takes time, effort and a ton of dedication to get to where you are. We all love your video’s, especially the longer ones ie. 3+ hours. I’m sure it is a LOT of work, setting up cameras, getting angles correct, going back to pick up cameras and the seemingly endless hours and days of editing. Keep up the AWESOME WORK dude and be fucking careful out there.

    “NAILED IT!!!” And not just your morning coffee! The first time I watched you run these final rapids, the suspense and music made me very nervous - the adrenalin was pumping and my pulse had to be elevated. You were successful in running the Class IV’s and their huge wave train, as well as creating fear in me as a viewer. Mission accomplished! Glad to watch it again on Special Episode 2.0!!! 👍👍

    I watched both parts start to finish. Well done! It brought back a lot of memories flying around the north dropping off adventure seeking individuals like you. I did most of my flying out of Inuvik into the Firth, Anderson, Mackenzie and where the Peel veers off from the Mackenzie. Some of the best times of my flying career were up in the NWT and the Yukon. Now I live in Bangkok Thailand flying big aircraft which is not nearly as fun as the days of my bush flying career! Well done and look forward to your next video!

    • @wesleygardner8259
      @wesleygardner8259 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yah I think you are right. What I recall is that the Firth is beautiful. You have the tundra, mountains, wildlife, good hiking, lots of white water, etc. but if it rains while in a certain section (my memory wants to say the "canyon" section) the water comes up real fast and turns into a sheep farm on the water with all the white water. I dont recall flying in a canoe but definitely rafts and kayaks. I think its cool you end up at the Arctic Ocean and if you have never been to Herschel Island its pretty cool to check off the bucket list.

    Jim, Amazing stuff! Well documented!! My perception is that you are evolving as a videographer, most especially in editing and adding music! The drone footage is terrific as well!! Having spent some time in the AK outback and other remote locations as a young man as well as engaging in numerous multiple-day (up to 9 days) unguided floating/fishing adventures in wildernesses in the lower 48, it is a pleasure to watch your adventures!! For those of us who love the wild places, it is spiritual being there! Thank you for allowing us to do it vicariously in the most wild, beautiful places!! You clearly are a master at your craft! And, while it may not be "riveting" to watch you eat oatmeal in the mornings, I can relate. P.S. I always carry along raisins to throw in mine. :)

    Admirable filming.... and crooning Jim. It is a surreal environment even watching from my couch. I for one know how time consuming all those different camera shots are. But those far away canoe shots add a lot. Knowing you have to go back upstream to grab your camera. Do you do all of your own editing? Must take some time to cull all of that video. But we appreciate the work you put in. Old soul in a modern man.

    • @JimBairdAdventurer
      @JimBairdAdventurer  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks a lot! This is a canoe, not a kayak. That’s like asking a hockey player why they’re not using a ringette stick as opposed to a hockey stick. That being said, I still have used a double blade sometimes. Big water crossing with wind and waves, and when you want to make time…they’re good to use in a canoe if you have a long one. They get in your way when trying to fish and can be a pain to carry on portages. So, def not necessary on this trip.

    Jim thank you for sharing this adventure. I have watch both parts this Thanksgiving day. Started off the week with 4 days off with plans of a rotation thru 3 of the remaining hunter's camps here in the Davy Crockett National forest in Texas. on the first day i felt kink of crummy when i got up. By lunch was was very tired and took a nap. that evening when went to the only non camping planned part of my time off mid way thru i felt really bad. I was running fever. two days later i am worse and give in to an ER visit. confirmed the super cold AKA none other that COVID. so i was quarantined thru Thanksgiving day. for about 3 days i have started videos and fell deep asleep. My only salvation for my 4 days of vacation was 20 minutes setting on a 5 gallon bucket in the sun with a single line in the water. I did not even try to catch the 3 catfish that hit my line. Normally on Thanksgiving my kids would come over and we would eat. Because I have been sick they chose to stay away i guess. Found your firs video about 3 PM. I watched and watched. fixed instant stuffing and had a piece of cold fried chicken while i continued to watch. the second part popped up. i continued to eat the remainder of my meal. this video lifted my spirits enough that i did go outside about 8 PM and built a small fire in my yard fire pit. I set by the and drank coffee for about an hour. then i finished your video. I love the way it ended. nearly made me shed a tear when the pilot ended up being a cut young blond.... 14 days no people... yeah, i know i can do it.
    Thanks for a great Thanksgiving after all.....

    Good job Jim, really enjoyed the scenery and your campfires. You have a real knowledge of how to read the river. I remember canoeing from Whitecourt to Fort Assiniboine out of Edmonton in the late 70's, it was high water, and i had some scary moments but loved the trip. We had a Coleman Canoe, so in the shallows the bottom would lift up, whereas a fiberglass canoe would rock side to side. I remember my neighbour took a trip with a kayak on a northern river, he had a kayak that folded into a suitcase and a float plane dropped him in a remote area. He had horror stories to tell when he got back alive. Maybe he did not have that map system u had, for sure not a drone, it was back in the 90's. He apparently had the river dry up and went overland to find where it started again and couldn't find it, so he set up his camp and slowly started to starve to death. He said wolves were circling his tent and at one time he started to plan on committing suicide. He was reported missing and they started searching for him, and found him, and the next day it snowed, so the pilot said they would of never seen his tent if it had snowed. Tales of the frontier.

    • @JimBairdAdventurer
      @JimBairdAdventurer  Před 5 měsíci

      Crazy story, sounds like the river he started on was a spring run that dries up later in the year but sometime no matter what you do you can run into sketchy situations. Are you originally from Australia and now living in Ontario, Canada by any chance?

    Hi Jim, I'm a huge fan of your exploits, canoeing adventures of both you and your brother Ted. You both are without question the real deal, the Canadian northern wilderness is not to be taken lightly. The height of land series as an example.
    This Hart river trip was enjoyable, as per usual the Yukon landscape is breathing. However the Hart river is pretty much a snooze fest drifting downstream. How about an oatmeal short video, 4 or 5 packs today.
    Anyway love the channel, perhaps you should have another channel with just family videos, keeping your solo trips on the other channel.

    Really brought back memories of my trips into the Quatico.. Thanks for some quality footage. Now I've got to get my old VHS tapes transfered to discs and relive my memories of Dad and several of my closest friends as we treckked and paddled the old passageways of Indians, explorers, trappers and early settlers through Ontario.

    Yes. Slowing down and enjoying what we have.
    How do we do it and why is it so difficult for most of us?
    Of course "society" dont reallly wants us to.
    But we also must take responsibility.
    I think it is done best if a couple really plan for it and accept the sacrifices in money, status and things.
    One thing I have learned myself is never talk less nice to those you love than you would to your boss. Remember what is important.
