  • A look into my all time favorite shoe and colorway, the Air Jordan 6 black/infrared. I'll be discussing my first pair from Christmas, 1991. Also the GS size 4 leather OG version. Finally, a comparison of the Nike Air DS trio from 1991, 2000 and 2019.

    The tongue being so high was what I remembered about the OG Jordan 5s and 6s. When I started seeing retros much later that was what I saw missing from them.

    • @ogorbust1697
      @ogorbust1697  Před 3 lety +2

      Yep, definitely taller. Lots of people complain about aj5 tongue height but they should be higher. First retro in 2000 was great but a bit short. Glad they are making them taller but a little heavy on padding with the retro.

    This was my first jordan shoe, but I went straight back to wearing Reebok pumps again, until about 94. So these will always be special to me.

    Back In Them Days When “Durabuck” Material Made These Quality Jordans People Never Needed A Cell Phone Or The Internet To Get The Shoes All They Do Is Get Em In Go Even $125 Was $190 Back Then And Minimum Wage Was Like $3.....I Had Em In Months Old....Today I Got The OG From A Year Ago Along With OG Carmine VI By Winning The Auction

      Durabuck is a synthetic material that was easier to clean and maintained its structure better than full-grain leather, but I wouldn’t say it was a “quality” material. Synthetic leathers and suedes are what most Air Jordan’s are made of. The AJ3 was really the last shoe that Nike made that implemented decent leather. They eventually went back to full-grain leathers and suedes with the AJ12, mainly because the “Jordan Brand” was suppose to represent luxury sportswear. After the AJ18, it was back to synthetic materials. Durabuck, was mainly used because real leather stretches and loses it shape after repetitive wear and tear, as well as heat.

    I searched internet so many times looking for a comparison of the ankle indention you spoke about. I don't have my OG 6's anymore to compare but I used to think the material inside the indention was a separate piece that included the pod and was stitched into the ankle mold. Was this just clever stitching to give it the illusion of depth? I noticed all the retros got lazy here and just stitched the original shape of the indention as you pointed out. Thank you for this great video! I had that 91 hat as well!

    • @ogorbust1697
      @ogorbust1697  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it! Actually the molding process of the heel is why the indentation is so pronounced as well as the flat finish that looks like leather almost. Its the same durabuck material but heated when molded and has An amazing finish. Makes sense too as it is more durable at heel. The execution and detail is just beautiful, a work of art.

    • @plaguey23
      @plaguey23 Před 3 lety

      @@ogorbust1697 so on the OG specifically, the area around the ankle pod and inside the indention, is this a separate piece of nubuck or is the entire heel to ankle/pod area a single piece of material?

      As my 2000 and 2019 pairs are still DS, I do wear the 2014 pair. OG was just more fitted and cushioning was definitely better on the original. You have to remember the original shoes were made to play basketball and today's retros are more for casual wear.

      @@gshockvon The open cell poly is ok but it doesn’t hold up that great over time and is the reason these shoes crumble. The open cell was a little bit more comfortable but it was the air units they use to use that made the most difference in comfort. Nike used a little bit bigger air units and they were filled with a different gas which I can’t remember atm what it was but about 04 or 05 Nike switched over to these cheap environmentally friendly air units which are trash and ever since then Jordan’s and Nike’s haven’t been as comfortable. Just go back and look at some of the air max from the 90’s and early 2000’s and compare them to the ones you see now and you can clearly see the size difference in them.Another big reason the older Nike’s were comfortable was the insoles they use to use that were a lot thicker and made from a different material

      I think its fair to say that. Many times you see people trying to wear vintage pairs with durabuck and it chips and flakes. It was really smooth and soft, light and flexible was the thought for the material. The OG just fit like a glove, so sleek and formed to your foot unlike retros.

      ..to add about the softness, sometimes I get a pair that is dry and I do condition it with mink oil spray. I use the spray can that I showed in the aj1 85 collection video I posted, great stuff. My flight lite ii I recently got felt really dry and have hit them with the spray a few times and seems to help. Wouldn't dare to wear but will definitely help with preservation.
