Here’s my thinking . If the world was one huge territory I feel as though it would either have to have 3 capitals or a capital in every habites continent . So for the tree capitals we could go with Geneva as the government headquarters. New York as the financial headquarters and maybe Tokyo or Singapore for global influence. Or for the 6 continental capitals maybe Geneva for Europe, New York for North America, Brasilia ,Rio or Lima for South America, Nairobi for Africa , Tokyo or Singapore for Asia and Sydney or Auckland for Oceania .

Singapore is perfectly situated to represent Oceania anyway , it's a bit superfluos to add australia & surrounds as basically it's own entity , while west/central asia is far too far away from it to be represented by it, it'd be better to do something like situating Singapore to rep east asia/oceania & Tehran to rep west asia, if Tehran wasn't so politically ostracized, Dubai could work instead ig

I would say London. I grew up there but there's no bias. I genuinely think it should be the world capital. First of all, it's the centre of the world as it has Greenwich. It also has or has had a massive sphere of influence over the rest of the world. Navigators often used to go down the Thames to colonise and trade with the rest of the world. As well as that, it's probably had the biggest influence in Asia. Despite all of the bad things that happened in India, the country is also a lot more advanced due to the UK. It's soon gonna be the most populated in the world. Japan also had a lot of influence by the UK, especially during the Meiji period, hence why they drive on the left side. In fact, Britain helped build the first railroad network in Japan which were all running on the left side. Even the way countries use decimals is because of the UK. Europe (except for the UK and Ireland), uses decimal commas. However, most of the world uses decimal points. That's because the UK uses decimal points so that system got transferred to all the colonies as well as most of Asia, including China, Japan and India. The UK has always had a massive influence on the rest of the world and it's for that reason that the city of London, the capital of the UK, is so multicultural. After WW2, London's population started to shrink and, while I'm not sure why, I think it might have to do with people moving out of the city. However, towards the end of the century, the city started to get repopulated due to immigration. I don't know how many people in the UK have foreign background but it's probably the majority. I myself have Italian background from my parents and I actually didn't even know so many of my classmates had foreign background until I got Instagram. Aside from Asians and Africans, there's a lot of people who don't have roots in the UK but still blend in. Obviously, certain people have features that stand out. For example, I have dark hair and brown eyes so my Southern European heritage stands out. This isn't the case for everyone though. There are mainly 2 reasons for the immigration. The first one is the British Empire, as lots of people from former colonies are coming to the UK. In fact, the UK is the only European country that has India as its primary source of migrants. That's not a coincidence. Another reason is the quality of life. London has a lot of jobs and an amazing quality of life. Realistically speaking, the best major country to live in is either Germany or the UK. London is also a popular place to move to for business. It's a massive financial hub and it has a lot of opportunities, unlike New York, which is shrinking. I wouldn't remotely pick New York as the world capital if I had to be honest. The quality of life is bad and the population is shrinking. In fact, London overtook New York in population back in 2014. It's also not as multicultural and it mostly only has immigration from Asia and the Americas whereas London has immigration from all over the world except maybe the Americas. New York is also a city in the US. There's not many other countries around it. London, on the other hand, is surrounded by multiple other countries, naturally making it a cultural hub for Europe as well as some parts of Africa and West Asia. One last important point to make is that it's an English-speaking city. English is the language of the world and it's because of Britain. Geneva might speak French but conventions are still done in English. I don't think there's much to debate in the end. Sure, there's many more cities that have a much bigger population but their sphere of influence has never been anywhere close to that of London. Tokyo may be the biggest city in the world but it's Britain that created Tokyo, not the other way around. Before the US, France and Britain came along, Tokyo was known as "Edo". It was renamed Tokyo only because of the West and it wouldn't have the same government if Britain hadn't helped 2 Japanese provinces at overthrowing it (long story). China might have a lot of big cities but they were never a cultural hub. China is still a developing country and up until WW2, it was just a chunk of land divided in between the nations of the world. India just sort of grew up getting their independence from, again, the UK. There's not much to deny it. London really is the capital of the world

Also as a linguistically inclined person, it's my duty to correct you on the spread of English--it wasn't just the UK. The US and UK essentially had equal parts in establishing English as the global language. Without all of the content made in English coming out of the US, English would have no staying power abroad. This is one of the main reasons why Spanish, French, and especially Mandarin are not becoming the global language. They have no content. The internet, coding languages, films & tv shows, novels, video games, etc, most of it was from and continues to be from the US. Children in non-English speaking countries just naturally end up falling into learning English by virtue of being a part of their society which interacts with much American made content.

@fane babanu You're so wrong and have no clue how the Chinese government works. China can't just govern 1.4 billion people from its capital. That's just not possible. Like in most countries, there are local governments. If there was some delay of communication, it was the local Wuhan government, which got replaced afterwards. If you'd actually researched the facts and the timeline instead of reading sentional headlines, China reacted a lot faster than the US handled the Swine flu, which is still killing people today.

We call them individual cities, using the denominator 市 for city instead of the denominator 区 for district, even though the official city is the prefecture-level city. The prefecture-level city administrative division really only exists to decide what greatest municipal government controls what land.
