- in this video I show you another problem keeping the 535D awake when the modules are trying to shut it down and put it to sleep this has been a common common problem and I have said many time the KOMBI is a common failure on these e6os as water gets in under the pollen filter and people realise to soon and then empty it by then the loom that runs into the car down to the car and kombi is then fried and needs replacing here I show you how to diagnose this fault and ELIMINATE battery drain immediately

awesome video thanks for showing this issues. i have a bmw 2006 650i convertible black & for the past few days noticed the battery has been draining due to the parking gear light keeping on. then weeks later the sound is chopy then days later from that the idrive display went dead lol. so will check the fuses under the driver compartment & i bet that 7.5 fuse is dead.

Nice video! I was hoping this could shed some light on my strange issue. I've checked fuses, and ran INPA. No explanation . Issue is When key fob is inserted, there are no dash lights, The start button has to be held down for 15 seconds, before e60 turns over and dashlights illuminate . I have the same problem. In summary, if I remove the fuse 7.5 and the problem disappears, does this mean that I have to replace the Junction box for electronics 3? Thanks
Hi does the e60 530d have a relay for the horn? Airbag needed changing as some cowboy had taken it out not knowing how to remove it but horns on permanently with ignition on one turn wondering sticky relay if it has one thankyou
Hi Dean, great video mate, I've got a fault with my e61 where the clocks arnt illuminating at all. Checked the fuse to the speedo and power is there! Could it be a problem with the module or is it more likely the fault in the instrument cluster? Thanks in advance
Hi mate I’m having the same issue on my e60 525i. Only has one code which is 514a drives faultless after pulling out the fuse but I’m looking on what the process is in changing the cluster? Do I just pull it out and get another one then get someone to correct the mileage? How does it get tuned/coded to my car? Sorry if this is the 600th message you’ve seen on the same subject lol but your the only dude that’s actually covered this issue

I have a similar issue,everything powers down,the air vents,lights,we green light, but the instrument cluster still remains on,just the orange backlight. Power drain is overnight.

Hi doc when i pul the fuse 7.5 out the hole cluster goes out ? The car goes to sleep ... But the rpm on the cluster doesn t work but when i do the cluster test it moves .. 🥴

In a comment below you said that this does not apply for gas. Mine is gas but it does say diesel something….. how do I tackle a CDA8 issue on a gas engine?

I tried to ubdate the GWS module of my 520 dlci with winkfp with a K dcan cable, but the installation failed.
the derailleur no longer works.
Do you have any suggestions for solving the problem?

Hey. I've got ane61 530d 2004. My defroster, remote for central locking and radio signal diden't work. So Yesterday i repair my tailgate wiring becaurse of 2 broken cable and 2 almost broken cabels. It was the antenna and defroster cable on the left that was broken. And det Brown and gren/yellow on the right. Now the car battery drains very fast (3hours). This is after it was fully charge over night with a cetek Charger. The battery is 6 monts old. Does you have any clou what it could be?

Is this same for e60 m5 ? I’m having big electronic problems causing my car into limp mode I taken it to 4 body shops paid over 1300$ in diagnostics and still no one can fix it. Throttle body changed idle actuators changed. When I scan car reads can msg bank 1 etc. I’m looking at my fuse I don’t see a 7.5 in that spot mine says 15
Will the instrument cluster make the water pump run while the car is off?
I changed my AC compressor,condesor and cooling coil after that my instrument cluster is showing error and rpm,gas Guage and heat Guage not working only speedometer is working. It also shows errors like cornering ability not working, instrument cluster not working again and again. I sent my car to work stations but they didn't repair it. Know I don't know what to do can you help plz

hi i have got a old e88 and what same to happen is the battery same to shut down i have check the battery and its ok and when i reset battery it goes away for two or three days then thing stop work first rear window heater then clock i have replace the relaythat came up on my srcanner CAS STARTER MOTOR.TERMINAL 50 SO I HAVE CHANGE THIS BUT STILL THE SAME ANY IDEA THANKS

Hi , I have changed the Kmb module as the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. The Idrive was showing faulty transmission, steering abs, windscreen wipers were going on their own and all other faults. It’s still doing the same problem. Is there anything else I need to check for this problem. Thanks

If i put this 7.5a fuse out and the car goes to sleep after 15 20 min this means the cluster is faulty right?
Greetings from California doc. I can’t tell if I still have rough idle after pulling out the 7.5 fuse. Pulling out the fuse turns off the speedometer as well so it shows no activity
Why the hell would you pull the instrument cluster for a rough idle this video is NOT for a rough idle and does not relate to PETROL CARS

Hello Dr. BMW, I have recently purchased 520 D Model 2015. On the instrument cluster receiving message Remote Control, Replace battery. Though I have replaced the Key battery but still the message keeps on coming..Not sure what is the issue..Appreciate if you can suggest a way to overcome this situation. Thanks

My four fuse in is a 15amp not 7.5amp but wipes out dash completely when removed e60 530d
Can anyone help me about this , got e60 530d 2004 . Same problem , navi turning on off , whole dash lights up and cluster jumps. Not all time , it stops few mins , or day two . Then again. I changed battery cables , i changed instrument cluster got new one . What to do next i have no idea .

i have an 06 328i
and at first my problem started while i was driving the music would faze in and out the needles would twitch and this happen quite a few times till finally hours later that day while driving the a/c radio and instrument cluster went black and stopped working car was till on windows work head liner lights work headlights and tail lights work the only thing that works on the cluster is the red screen showing you your car and the 2 parallel lines with the single one going doing it vertically that’s the only one that works and turns on every now and then so i’ve had this problem for a few weeks now and it’s gotten to the point to now sometimes in the middle of driving they’ll randomly still working so i’m not sure if it’s a fuse but it’s never permanent they’ll always go back to not working and the radio and a/c not working is throwing me for a loop
also i disconnected the battery and when i reconnect it after a few hours everything’s working fine sometimes even after a few days i also don’t use the car a lot sometimes not at all in a whole day but it also goes back to not working
also don’t know if it’s related but i had the problem where water ends up on the floor board of the driver side and i’m yet to figure out how or where but i feel like maybe all that water might’ve had contact with something electrical cause it would be decent size puddles and not just once but a hand full of times i’ve got into the car and see those big puddles of water
again any insight would be greatly appreciated

i have a slightly different problem, on my 2005 e60 , everything was working fine, while driving to garage for my MOT the cluster just decided to stop working completely. it doesn't flash like the one in this video and everything in the car seems to work bar the cigarette lighter (dash cam Hard wired to it) and the cluster itself . car goes to sleep..
the only issue i have had with the car lately is a water leak thats on the drivers side that ends up collecting in the rear foot-well, i suspect this to be a blocked drain under the pollen filter, and 2 days before the mot we cleared this drain. and dried the area out. then the cluster went dead 2 days later.
what are the chances of the loom under the filter causing the cluster to fail after drying out, or just a dead cluster? fuses seem fine but i will check again

I’ve got the same problem on my E90 2011 320d, would this rectify the issue on my car too? Instrument cluster goes mental every time I drive but doesn’t affect the actual drive and feel, it just sends the electrics haywire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It’s 320D scrap it !!! That’s my best advise not worth saving this car or engine, that’s the help I can give you the (BEST) help you will ever get

Hi, Can you help me with an issue i have on my E61 520D? Its very similar to what you are showing in this video but i get different warnings. My car starts and drives very well and then randomly while driving the electrical power seems to cut for a fraction of a second, the Idrive screen turns off, the speedo and rev counter flick all the way to the right and then back again, headlights flash off then back on, AC stops etc, and then they all come back on but i have flat tyre warning, drive system failure, transmission failure, battery failure and it will sometimes go in to limp mode. If i turn off the ignition off and on again the warnings are gone and the car drives normally>
Some people suggest its a dead battery, others say its alternator spikes but could this also be the central control module?
Just in case anyone has read my comment. The problem I described was being caused by a faulty voltage regulator on the alternator and it was spiking the battery with 16 volts which sent the electrics crazy.
£37 for new regulator and the problem is fixed

On My E46 convertible first softtop stop working, after the Horn and radio the brake lights doesn't go off the cruise control light and transmission light is on the side rear mirror doesn't work after the central door locks didn't work for 2 days the central door locks works now

Mate, if you connect the car to ISTA+ does it say kombi internal fault or communiction fault? Or can you only diagnose this problem with that fuse? Keep the channel growing man!
Communication faults and Dtc faults it’s all on the same line as the MPM and they all communicate together the kombi is stopping the communication between all the modules trying to communicate
BMW Doctor Yea the PT Can wasn’t it? did a kombi replacement on a E90 with ista P and everything just went fine it got the KM (Netherlands) from the CAS so the millage was the same on the replacement kombi. Is that also for other series?
yes mate that is correct it corresponds with all the modules on the PT CAN its a common common overlooked problem the cluster is usually always the culprit on these trust me this isn't the first time ive seen this and it wont be the last the common problem is that water gets into the pollen filter housing in there brake servo is sits for so long on the wiring loom running into the car that by the time the owner realises the loom is that soaked and become that brital from water when it gets heat it just send the electronics haywire and that loom runs to the CAS KOMBI CCC GATEWAY AND THE STEERING LOCK MODULE
I totally agree with you. BMW needs to fix the water leak issues. I really like BMW’s but some faults that needs to be fixed are some design faults of BMW. Same as you say like in the e60’s the mpm, tcu, ehc, relays are under the spare tire I mean why there?? If water can simply leak in there😑
Carry on watching mate after 2006 bmw moved all the power modules and built them into the SGM and KBM which is what I’m going to covert this car to to take away all the modules in the boot I’m going to redesign the module layout like the 06 and up ones to make it power off from the KBM and lose the MPM unit

My 06 e60 keeps doing this but doesn’t say central electronics failure , I’d does it mostly when accelerating but everything starts shutting off and on effecting the power steering, transmission etc , on idle it doesn’t really do it but when driving goes insane , any ideas ?

Hi @BMW doctor I have an issue in my 2003 E60 I turn the ignition off and the dash lights come and stay on. The lights vary from time to time but basically it does not turn off. The Idrive stays off but the dash is the issue, the only work around I have is disconnecting the battery and that re sets the system and the issue goes away for a week until it returns back any help please

Hi I have a 525i E60. My dials have stoped working. If u disconnect the battery for a while or take the fuse out for a while the dials work again fully. But when I stop driving and turn the engine off then restart the dials stop working. Any ideas would be great

I have same car and am getting no crank no start I just tried unplugging the ibs don’t think this fuse will do it for me any ideas
Wonder if that’s what’s wrong with mine the dash goes crazy and even flattens my battery v8 545 manual getting crazy pulse on revs and coming up loads of faults but when the I drive doesn’t come on no issues it’s soon as that comes on and that happens to be random

My 2008 528i BMW said trans malfunction drive moderately then all of a sudden it would not go into drive or reverse and I got it towed to my house and I need to know how I get it back to driving

I took the 7.5 amp fuse out of slot 13 as you said. Now nothing in my dash works whatsoever?! No skews dial, no rev counter, no I drive panel, no clock or temperature, it’s all dead?!

Hey man, my father in law has this problem - car drives fine and suddenly sometimes just stops in the middle of motorway...:-( very weird and not even BMW service was able to find the problem - any idea what this could be? he is affraid to drive it now and its a pity as its M5 version with tons of horse power now sitting in the garage... thanks if you have any idea what this could cause ...🙏🏻

I really wanted your help, I've seen almost all of your videos. I have a 2009 bmw 535i and it is all the lights on the panel turning on, the panel hardens the speed pointer stops working, the rev counter only works. the headlight lights on and off the dash board as well. The interior lights are on and off as well. the battery is new I changed it a short time ago, the car has no mechanical problem for the love of god what could it be? is it a fuse?

It’s kind of strange. I have the same symptoms on the dashboard and the limp mode, but I am also having issues with my interior lights, and at one point I did get steering to become heavy. Although my headlights worked. I carry loads of water in my car. I wonder if the condensation caused my central electronics to fail 🤔
dude somone broke into my 530 a couple day ago and i woke up today and there was a big puddle of water in my rear floor and front floor

ews locked my car
joystick and buttons not working
rear cover not returning after trunk was closed.
ews was easy to fix.. not I have 2 more
