Steelyard Balance Scale Restoration

  • A steelyard balance is a straight-beam balance with arms of unequal length.
It incorporates a counterweight which slides along the longer arm to counterbalance the load and indicate its weight. This scale has two different ranges of measuring. One is from 0 - 3 kg and the other is from 3 - 12 kg.
I started the restoration with disassembly and sandblasting of the scale.
After that, I nickel plated the scale to protect it from rusting. The nickel plating solution was home-made by dissolving the nickel electrode in the vinegar with the process of electrolysis.
All that was left was to assemble and test the scale.
Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.

The pliers that you are using at 1:25... what are those called? T-Wrecks
Oh and great job! I am moving towards airbrush for my restorations, I am happy to see someone else already using one.

Those are circlip pliers. Yes, the amount of colour needed for most restorations is to small to use the spray paint gun. So the airbrush works great.

Did you restore the pliers as well? They have a mirror finish
