Growing up in a family that had drivers, Dad & 3 uncles- I 2nd that comment.. They need balls of steel . Mostly in these conditions.
My brother & couple cousins drives now. My brother don't need to worry as much, he drives for Honda stays in state. But cousins are cross country.

This storm over preformed in Ohio. We were expecting 6-8 inches and got a foot to two feet of snow all along the Eastern areas of Ohio.
It changed from freezing rain to snow in just minutes and accumulated immediately.
My area had over an inch in less than an hour. And that was at 6pm. We had heavy accumulating snow all night long.

I appreciate people with vehicles like yours who are willing to help rather than laugh at stuck cars, but I think people often overlook clearance versus 4 x 4 or all wheel drive as being the biggest benefit in snow. The drivetrain is most helpful when you are already stuck, the clearance can help you avoid being stuck in the first place. The biggest problem I’ve always run into in my car is the height. But I can get up nearly any hill in the snow, my tires will definitely be spinning, but the traction control on my vehicle is actually a help versus a hindrance like it is on some cars where it cuts all the power. I’ve even seen low-slung Subarus get stuck in snow drifts. But where the all-wheel-drive comes in handy is being able to back out of them. The few times I have gotten stuck I did not have that benefit..

In most situations a 2 wheel drive car with good tires can fare just fine. My parents live in an area that is frequented by tourists from Florida and other points south. All respect to them, they often will have RWD SUVs, or 4x4s with low profile tires. I saw more than a few SUVs this week in ditches, along with some low slung Subarus as well. My first car was a Malibu, my current car is a subcompact Prius C, with 240000 miles on it. I’ve only gotten stuck a handful of times, and all were because of *deep* snow beyond it’s clearance and or me just being dumb. For general commuting purposes, unless you live down a holler or up a big hill, you should fare fine with momentum, confidence, and good tires.

People most definitely do die from the cold when stuck. But it really depends on what winter clothing/blankets they have with them and how much fuel they have to keep the vehicle running. Also there is a high chance that someone will check on them if they are on a major roadway

I got to watch all of the fools out there with all season tires that are worthless in this type of snow. I have a full size, 4 wheel drive truck and I stayed home safe and warm.
