Toto was made up of some of the best studio musicians in Southern California. They formed their own band and made some great songs. "Africa" is a great song in my opinion - however, I think "Rosanna" is probably their best. You guys need to hear that one. They are a lot like Chicago in many ways - transitions in rhythm, use of a wide variety of instruments, etc.
I don’t understand how you all listen to this good music and talk all the way through it. Please listen with your ears and talk after the song goes off.😳🙄🥺🙃
Someone may have already said this, but he’s saying “I bless the rains” not “I miss the rains”. According to Wikipedia on the song - “He based the lyrics on a late night documentary with depictions of African plight and suffering. The viewing experience made a lasting impact on Paich: "It both moved and appalled me, and the pictures just wouldn't leave my head. I tried to imagine how I'd feel about it if I was there and what I'd do." Hope that helps! You guys are great!
It's not that this song went unnoticed in the 80s, it had a moment. There was just so much to hear. The music scene was so huge and diverse, record labels were signing everyone. It was an amazing time, we listened to everything disco, rap, rock, new wave, grunge, heavy metal, punk.....the 80s was a musical explosion.
Africa is thought to be the origin of mankind. Mother country to all. To me it's a spiritual quest. He's learning what he can from books, and feels the need to go there. It almost feels like he's been there before ... there's a connection that he's missing and desires it. I'm saying this clumsily off the cuff, but that's how I interpret it. Great song❣️
Been to Nigeria, Kenya, Johannesburg South Africa...because that's where WE ALL COME FROM!!! I am a 68 year old white woman, and chose Africa over Europe!!😎😎💋💋😎😎
Something you have to know about Toto is that, they weren't just a band, but they also were a studio group, and used to work with lot of big superstars like Michael Jackson...
Keep going with TOTO, great songs, Roseanna, Hold the line, I'll be over you, Without your love . All great songs that you guys might like. You guys are doing a great job, thank you for everything
You don’t hear this song, you feel it.. Brock looks like he felt it and Brandon coming in on the high notes, look like he felt it.. Always been a unique vibe, Toto’s Africa 🙌🏻
Hi, I’m a 65 year old white woman but I enjoy watching your family dynamic,it’s awesome, you have some of the best smiles, people need to love who they love! Keep up the family togetherness! It contagious!
I’ve been to Kenya and it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever traveled to. My daughter lived in Malawi for a year and loved it. If you ever get the opportunity to go you won’t regret it🥰 Every time I hear the song Africa it takes me back there.
I was fortunate enough to have met TOTO in 1979 back stage at a 3 day event at the L.A. Coliseum. They are one of most talented bands of all time. Each member is a master at their craft of producing great music. Steve’s guitar playing is among the best ever.
If I ever decide on going to Africa with the rest of my Nigerian family this is the song I want playing when our plane touches down on the Motherland. It's a very white but very sincere and honor-laden that makes a regal feeling of what it must be like to see Africa for the first time in one's life. Classic and original
Reupload from 2022 it got blocked hopefully this one won’t 🔥
As an old white dude you guys crack me up. This was out when i was a teenager and it was just a good song. No one read any kind of meaning in it.

If you are discovering Toto you have to listen to Hold The Line. Such an addictive hook.
