Also throw into the fact we don't know what happened to DK after Tokyo Drift because he was taken away by his uncle's men in a deleted scene. He could be dead for all we know. The original story twisted to say he was to leave town and never return, but we don't know how far Yakuza went to make an example of him.
Brian Tee is heavily underrated as an actor. Loved him in Tokyo Drift, he played an excellent alternate version of Liu Kang in the Legacy Series, and I enjoy seeing him on Chicago M.D. I really like this dude.

And even though he didn’t kill Han per se, their unresolved issues (now that Han is alive again) could make for some good “loyalty and honor” drama amid Dom’s whole “la familia” shtick.

Let me get this straight. Sean comes here starts moving in on DK’s girl while being hustled by Han and then Sean takes his girl while having to constantly answer to his crimelord Uncle. Sean absolutely deserved to get beat up by DK. That’s why they took this scene out. It would of made more people side with DK vs Sean.

Okay, DK told Sean to back of neela, Sean didn’t listen so that’s why he gets punched & hated by DK & his crew. I think Sean deserves getting punched & hated. DK told him nicely, he even called him by his name. I honestly think DK is a nice guy just don’t get on his bad side. They just deleted this scene because it didn’t fit DKs character. Glad DK doesn’t die, he was cool.

Out of all the deleted scenes in this film, they really should have kept this one in. Matter of fact, if they kept all deleted scenes in the film it would definitely be on a top movie of all time (imo). But movies like this were made back in the day where everyone wanted something short and sweet

Only reason i sort’ve disagree with this is mainly because Dk’s most likely around 30, while his girl is in high school, and he’s also shown to be quite manipulative, bringing up her mother as a way to keep her from leaving after she clearly said it was over.
With that being said, it’s sort’ve a karate kid storyline, where the newcomer comes in and swoop’s the love interest of the “antagonist”, and it’s completely justified since he’s the “protagonist”.
If DK was around Neela’s age, and they showed more scenes of him showing genuine concern for her, Sean would be the antagonist, as of right now he’s a flawed protagonist at best.

such a powerful scene, the dynamic between sean and dk would have been so much richer if they left this in. everything from the tension and dk's moment of vulnerability is perfect

Probably because most movies of that era were only about 70 minutes long, it was on the 2010's that 2 hour long movies got popular again, the studio probably didn't want to make a super "long" movie by that era standards, which is funny because all the movies after Fast Five are 2 hour long movies.

Studio interference. Justin Lin probably had a multi-layered drama with fast cars being the backdrop as his vision, but Universal was probably like "just trim it down to a dumb movie about cars".
The fact that DK had so much more to him than just some lineless cartoon villain really puts a new perspective on the movie.

Lol rewatch the movie. In the beginning she was getting slammed by both of them. She went from one big DK to another DK. She opened up her legs and played both of them. Only till the end she committed to Sean.

DK really loved her and I think that Neela and Takashi knew each other since she was a kid. Their actually have a close bonding and she knows that Takashi's live isn't easy. But then she leaves him for a guy who suddenly appears and try to flirt with her even when he knows, that she's the girlfriend of Takashi. It's not really logical, they should have stayed together while Sean moves on as the new Drift King

It's a shame that they didn't go with something like this. I get it, simple story, american audience, etc. not enough run time jump around deciding what kind of story you want to tell.
But this adds so much depth to relationship triangle and honestly makes DK a lot more human. Especially the business courtesy offered between the two.
This shows that hes really a chill guy, told shawn to stay away but he refused, and it just got worse becuase shawn kept hanging out with her behind his back.

He might have been cheating on her but he still meant what he said here - she's the one in the 6 billion people so she still means more to him than any meaningless fling with the nameless girls who come and go. It was a selfish love but it was real. Though to be honest I can't remember if Sean showed any selflessness in his love for her either.

Should have kept this scene in. It really drives home the point how important Neela is to both men and it actually forms a brief connection between Sean and DK because they both know they could die in the big race, like the scene in Rebel Without a Cause where James Dean and the other racer bond right before their chicken race. Plus, the acting is damn good here!

For me, the best Fast and the Furious, the only one I can't forget some scenes.
DK was controlling, jealous, as well as emotionally and mentally abusive towards Neela, but loved her at heart, albeit in his own selfish way. Sean cared about Neela as a human being, not a piece of property. It's not black and white. It's shades of gray.

They should've kept this scene in. It justifies DK's motivations, and makes him more than just "evil-faced fast guy". He has legitimate reasons to be angry at Sean and Han, but I guess a decade ago they didn't really care that much about character development.

actually from the beginning, fast and furious films tell about criminals, right? it's just that these criminals are lined with kinship that makes them look like good people (it's not wrong that they're good people.) But Fast and Furious still upholds its criminal mission, so you could say in the Tokyo drift film it does contain elements of the criminal business between han-DK-even though sean. and in my opinion, what you guys said that "DK is good" might be more like he's calm or something (emotionally stable / no problem). that is my opinion, hope it helps.
