  • A quick my thoughts video on the 6.1 l hymn it. This is obviously not the last word in commentary on this engine, but it is a fantastic powerplant. It helped to give rise to all of the later Hemi variants to come whether naturally aspirated or supercharged, they all owe a debt of gratitude to the 6.1 l hemi

    Thanks for the shout out. I currently own a 2006 Chrysler SRT8. Originally intended for it to be a weekend warrior but I scrapped that idea and made it my daily driver. I’m the 2nd owner. First owner kept it tip top and so do I. Got it with 65k and now it’s sitting on 282k and still purrs like a kitten and growls like a lion when needed. I only replaced the air intake system and installed a full SLP exhaust system. I don’t abuse it so that it lasts but I needed the extra growl to hear all those ponies under the hood 💪

    I had an original 08 Challenger with the 6.1, the 6.4 SRT8 and now a Hellcat for the last 5 years. My 6.1 had a cat back, filter kit and diablosport tune. As I recall, she was pretty peppy. That car really did “it” for me. This may sound funny to someone that hasn’t lived it, but I remember looking out the side view mirror and having flashbacks of my brother’s 71 roadrunner.

    I grew up looking at rusty hulks of '60's muscle here in Southern Ontario. I knew where no less than 5, 340 swingers were parked on my school bus ride. So 30 plus years later when the Challenger came back I was hooked. I've had my 2010 SRT six speed for 13 years and 75,000 miles. No mods and as I'm 60 now, my driving is much more casual. No mods, no desire, I just enjoy the better mileage, safety, economy, maintenance, comfort, etc. that comes with the modern experience. Still own my grandmothers '68 Mustang from Nevada, so I can still have that old car experience, but for long term ownership and driving, I'm not likely to mess with success. I absolutely appreciate what I have. Nice thoughts though from you on this motor, it is a beauty to look at, and that orange block was a nice touch too.

    I've got an 09 Jeep SRT8 (6.1L), I did a lot of suspension upgrades (control arms, coilovers, sway bars, panhard bar, etc.), as far as go fast upgrades I did ceramic coated Kooks long tube headers, 3200 stall torque converter, ceramic coated PnP intake manifold, bwoody CIA, 25% underdrive pulley, kooks high flow CAT's, custom tune, Diablo tuner tool, and some race gas at the track. I really like the look and handling of the NT05 tires but am currently on AZ850's due to the pricing. I used to winter it but for the past 5 years it mostly sits in the garage waiting for a drag strip day.
    Runs 12.3's @ 110 MPH in the 1/4 Mile, does 0-62 MPH in the mid 3 seconds during the winter and low 4's during the summers (the DA makes a huge difference as well as the wheels & tires setup).
    I plan to do the heads and CAM some day as I did the TQ converter already.
    Only failures and issues so far: Speed sensor on the valve body went bad (changed out the connector plate), resistor for the fan went bad caused some higher temps due to the lack of a high speed fan mode (replaced the resistor), parasitic draw never found (I just disconnect the negative when parking), blend door broken no heat or AC for the drivers side (unresloved fairly new issue).
    Note: I've done 100's of passes at my local drag strips without any breakdowns so I'm more than happy with the reliability so far.

When I launch and hit third, it wants to turn around and go back to start over again!. This car is crazy. I have raced Vets, twin turbo 3.8 litter Genise with all the bolt on the guy said, and it just wants more. I Love it! I got it used, with 32000 miles, for $27,000.00 from Georgia. It is detonator yellow, with upgrades but not sure what inside the motor. It does say Hurst Edition on it, and you can see under the hood to the left of the motor over the valve cover that it had a super cooler and tubing that ran back up to front of intake at one time. Last owner removed that! Wish he didn't, if in fact that is what that discoloration was caused by. Wish I could post picks.

    Is tuning the stock 6.1 worth it. Or is the stock tune all it’s got with out intake and exhaust work.

      Throttle adjustments and optomised shift scheduling make it worth it to me, Dont do it for power. There is some... Just not a lot.

      Ok thank you. I got a 6 speed. What’s the best way to optimize the throttle. Would that be the banks monster peddle. Thx

    I'd throw those 20 in rims away and replace them with some 18in demon rims.

    Am I the only one to notice that the 6.1 and the 6.2 has the same bore and stroke?

    • @bmasontv
      @bmasontv  Před rokem

      Same stroke ( also same as the 5.7) at 3.58" but a larger bore. 6.2 is 4.09" vs 4.055" for the 6.1

      @@bmasontv I wonder if they used the 6.1 for the basis for the 6.2 Hellcat. If they did, then the 6.1 (for normal aspirated) would be preferable to the 6.4 which has a hp limit that the 6.2 doesn't have. Funny, the stroke is the same on the 360LA engine.
