1988 Olympics Men's 100m final Seoul Finalists: Linford Christie (GBR) Robson da Silva (BRA) Ben Johnson (CAN) Carl Lewis (USA) Dennis Mitchell (USA) Calvin Smith (USA) Ray Stewart (JAM) Desai Williams (CAN)
6 of 8 it was doped: Ben Johnson, Carl Lewis , Linford Christie, Dennis Mitchell, Desai Williams and Ray Stewart. This 100m final of 1988 of Olypics it is the most dirty race in the history.
I watched this race live in 1988. I'll never forget the excitement before and after the race. Probably the most talked about 100m race ever. Hard to imagine the great Carl Lewis defeated by the Canadian Ben Johnson. Unfortunately (or fortunately for Lewis), Johnson was stripped of his prize soon afterward. Wow.
thevmanvj Johnson was dirty....everyone knew he was dirty. His record run means nothing He cheated… He used performance-enhancing drugs. He gave himself, his team, his country, his coaches, and the sport of track and field a big black eye.
7 sprinters in this race went on to eventually test positive for PEDs including Carl Lewis. The top performers all seem to be dirtier now more than ever.
One of the highlights of Canadian Olympic history at the time. The whole country burst out in cheers at the same time. It still hurts pretty deep all these years after Ben was exposed for cheating.
Some people in industries accept being the scapegoat for glory, good or bad. Notice we still view and talk about Ben Johnson. Weight lifting, Cycling, track and field, baseball, etc loves steroids or performance enhancement drugs.😊😋🤔
Dope or not, he still performed. All you cry babies will straight down the chemist wanting prescription drugs for your cough. 25years later, Ben Johnson could still do 100m in roughly 10sec
MY greatest 100 meters finals I've seen. I knew for a fact Ben Johnson would defeat Carl Lewis because his prelims show more power then Carl Lewis. The eye test didn't lie. I put no 100 meter runner faster then Ben Johnson because of his time and the eye test. Regardless of time, the eye test saw no one faster in the 100 meters.
That’s called steroids! Even in modern times track stars aren’t that fast without cycled steroids or their supplements used in training to increase their muscle reflex(ology)(es) etc.. The race in the video in particular: “Johnson-who would exit the Olympic village in disgrace after testing positive for stanozolol, an anabolic steroid-had beaten Lewis in the World Championship final in Rome. At the time, the world record (9.93 seconds)”

@@thevmanvj the first 3 all failed drug tests during their career, everyone was at it
@@thevmanvj they were all dirty.
Johnson was a legend. I too remember watching these Olympics as a teenager and the hype was exhilarating.
Carl Lewis was on the gear.
I have never seen a start like this since 1988...amazing.
Lewis & Christie where both on gear too but they had to make an example out of Johnson because his win was too much of a margin.
Did anyone ever break out of the blocks like Johnson?

still the finest 100 m race of all time..or perhaps the most remembered
I think Bolt's 2012 100 meters run 9:69 was the greatest.
@@JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION that was 2008 or did he run 9,69 in 2012 aswell?

Me too. Turns out wasn’t the only one though.
They all dope now.
Bolt doesnt.
His start reminds me of Coleman today....Dangerous...
He was brilliant sprinter Ben rapidly fast infact they’ll all quick
Practically all of them on gear, but still a great feat to watch.
O feel bad for the guy on the number 2 bless him
lane 3 line violation?
twice
Yes well spotted.
Lewis should have been disqualified also, as stated in track rules.

Idc if he was a cheat
80 likes for 91k is still toooo wild
Great athlete!
In a 'Lance Armstrong' kind of way.

hey nice 100m,
only the 6 from 8 sprinters were not doped,
and a friend of one non-doped (Lewis) was responsible for doping the Johnson.
sabbas eleftheriadis Carl Lewis IS a known doper. Fuck outta here!
well, perhaps to your doped family as i can safely assume by your avatar
Only 1 of the eight finalists - Calvin Smith hasn't been accused or convicted of taking banned enhancing drugs. :(

But he couldn't though could he so stop talking bollocks
'Still performed'? They call them 'performance enhancing' drugs for a reason

I'll take my eye test of Usain Bolt, circa 2009.

@odolan2877Usan bolt would be just like Carl Lewis Insane! 😮shocked!🤣🫢🥰
@odolan2877 You must win head to head and Ben Johnson beat the greatest Carl Lewis! Eye test is better than time! 🥇
@odolan2877 notice Carl Lewis couldn't close on Ben Johnson nor would usan bolt as Ben Johnson had it all!
Canadian dopping machine...
Christos Kinatidis vs US doping machine
And amazing sprinting human being.
