I don't think enough modern chess fans realize just how good Lasker was. Kramnik said that Lasker was the first 2700-level player, and I agree.

Safe to say Steinitz was tough to crack and Lasker brought new insights in the form of middlegame tools to do it.

Lasker is one of my favorite players. Interestingly, I consider his style to be similar to that of Tal. Both were deep and thinkers and excellent tacticians. Each also possessed a style that was so original, it was and still is, almost impossible to emulate.

Absolutely right... nothing new under the sun... and the old masters have proved it time and again

Thanks for the great videos, enjoying those historical ones. I believe the hypothetical position at 11:10 is lost for white. Just Rxf5 for black, and white is down a rook and bishop, and has no more mating threat, right?

It is a draw after Rf5. White has a perpetual by moving the queen back and forth to b6 and e3.

I think Spassky studied the games of Lasker because his middlegame power play is similar to Laskers. Kasparov also conjured up King side attacks against Karpov tho' in much more precise a manner. Good show as always.

Thanks for this amazing game from 1894! When I started to study chess theory ands look at master games around the age of 10 Lasker became one of my favourites along with Fischer, Tal, Max Euwe and Petrosian.

I still don't understand why was pawns to g4 so special. Lasker hadn't developed his pawns and he just decided to move one of them. Actually, this move could have been read easily by his opponent. I think this wasn't Lasker's strongest game.

You are a good analyst of chess games, but your titles are just hype to get clicks. Your titles are similar to saying that dead clocks can be very accurate, because they are 100% correct two times a day.
