NHL Hitz is a gem. I really miss these old arcade style Midway games. Blitz, Hitz, Slugfest, etc... They were all so much fun.

Agreed! It’s so much fun. I wish hockey games nowadays were as fun as Hitz. Screw realistic hockey games, games like NHL Hitz 2002 AND 2003 were two of the best hockey games ever developed and actually still hold up pretty well.

I was a tester for this game at Midway in the summer or 2002. I am glad to hear so many people got enjoyment out of it. It never seemed that popular but I guess I was wrong.
It's the greatest sports game ever made. I was sharkhead my friend was cowhead and my other friend was the devil. Played full seasons together. Best gaming memories.

I loved this game growing up. Especially the fact that after you beat franchise mode you can take your team to season mode and win a Stanley cup. Also, you can knock your opponent through the glass if you hit them hard enough against the boards.

Played the hell out of this game when I was in college. Great thing was how accessible the gameplay was; even my roommate, who didn't care about hockey at all, had a ton of fun with it.

This is from an era of actually fun sports games. From mid-90's thru < 2010, these were when the best sports games were ever made. So much fun stuff to do in a single game!

My brother and i played this game so much. Franchise mode is so good! I actually downloaded PCSX2 and played this with him last weekend and it's still a lot of fun!
played this on a break with 2 college roommates and it was hours of so much fun. looking back now, its still probably the best hockey game ive played.

A solid fun one is NHL Rock the Rink, pure gem full of big hits, full fun, the commentator is a pure anarchist and will roast you for anything and everything, and the way he yells "BONUS!" when you activate the power up is so good! and even though this is youtube, the music in it is pretty fire!

I am not ashamed to admit I played the 2002 version of this game on my gamecube for hundreds of hours as a kid. Still have it, and still play it from time to time.
Watching you play all these games brand new as someone who grew up with all of them, I'm jealous you get to experience them for the first time!!!! :)
What the opposing player does before the faceofd, determines which button you should push, square, x or o. For example, if opposing guy in face-off circle lifts his stick side ways in the air, push o. If it looks like he's moving his arm back to punch, hit x before puck drops.
i didn't know drew played hockey games until now. so i would recommend also Tape to Tape, Super blood Hockey, and Bush hockey league for future hockey videos. maybe even nhl2k and backyard hockey.
I love this series of games, Blitz, Hitz, Slugfest. I love how the announcers are the same in all the games. Super unhinged and nonsense commentary. It makes the game that much more fun.

NHL Hitz 2002 was my favorite game ever. The franchise was so much fun. My friends and I all had this team that the starters were maxed out and everyone else was just horrible. Made it so much fun when you lost a fight. Also the goat nickname that still never leaves my head is 101011

Absolutely loved this game and the franchise mode was amazing. I was the Philly Cheeseheads. I loved how the opponents got harder as you went up each level.
My first PS2 game . The amount of crazy stuff to unlock and then taking your franchise mode team to season mode to play a full nhl season was dope

I had Hitz 02 on GameCube when it came out. Goofy heads, hits, fights, and one timers make it so much fun. Always thought you'd have a blast with it!

One of the NHL games I think 2002-04 in one of them there was a Zamboni mode. My friends and I were renting a place and we played for two weeks. Every night someone would get a little higher 90%, 92%. Best time ever. I don’t know why it was so intense.

The arcade-style craze of this small cubby-hole of time really is quite entertaining.
Outside of indie developers we really don't see games like this anymore, and there's just something innocent about jacking up the chaos factor this high and having a blast.
And yet it still looks and feels like hockey, even if it's not hugely realistic.
I remember in the 90’s… the nhl would highlight the puck with streaks, on a special game.. blue for passes and red for shots. But it was so slow the streaks were way behind the puck.
Still less disturbing then all the ads thrown everywhere nowadays
So the faceoffs are a rock paper scissors game. They go low, you go high. They go high, you punch. They punch, you go low. Also, if you grab the player for the final punch, you get animated finishing moves, like grabbing them by the neck and throwing them. Unreal game, play more!!!

Deke is pronounced "D-eek". It essentially means to fake out a player on the opposing team when you have the puck. In basketball parlance to "break their ankles."

Hitz is 100% my favorite hockey/sports game when I was in middle school. My brothers and I played this for countless hours. We curated the soundtrack ourselves from burned cds onto our Xbox, and to this day whenever I hear Brittany Spears Toxic, or Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim I think of being in my childhood basement crushing fools in Hitz.

Drewski gotta play backyard hockey (the 02 version preferably) to round out the backyard sports titles, especially now that he has a basic concept of hockey now
I love this game. Probably one of my favorite GameCube games outside of NFL street. A couple tips that make it more fun for me. Player lock the best trucking player, it’s the easiest way to get the puck. 😂 shoot one timers by hitting shoot as the pass is coming across the goal, you can still control the players you aren’t to pass and shoot with the same buttons. And lastly fights, just spam A and you’ll RARELY lose. Oh! And please play the mini games also. They are amazing.

Super Blood Hockey is a great hockey arcade game if you haven't played it. It's about a hockey league of convicts where they can injure or kill each other in games. In season mode, the deaths stick, so you have to bring in new players. It's an 8 bit style so it should be fine for CZcams.
