In this video we play the NFL Draft in the legendary ESPN NFL 2K5 video game. Regarded as one of the best football video games of all time. We scout prospects. Look at their NFL combine numbers and then draft a god tier QB to be our franchise stud. Let's have some fun! Remember last time we played their first person football mode which was basically a VR football game, but for the playstation 2!

Current gen (PS5) Madden graphics + APF2k8 physics + NFL Head Coach 09 overall depth + NFL 2k5 presentation + NCAA 14 = The greatest football game ever created.
There is a glitch where the CPU only drafts QBs, HBs, DEs, and LT in the 1st round. One of my favorite glitches because I would always trade for 1st pick of 2nd rnd and get best defensive skill player on the board. I traded for Ed Reed and had 2 star cornerbacks and got almost 50 team picks in one year between secondary and linebackers
That's not a glitch, just bad programming. One of the few bits in an otherwise perfect game.
@@Twigg4075 They didn't make a "perfect game" in 2004. 2k football was incredible and ahead of it's time. But it's flaws are easy to ignore bc Madden is nothing but flaws and is still behind a 17 yr old game.
And I'm a 2k stan and desperately wish I had NFL 2k22 on my PS5. Even though I'm sure the developers focusing on microtransactions would have watered down the game by now.

You need to play on harder sliders. I have mine set to 5 above zero for human and 3 below 100 for the a.i
Edit: I'm dropped down to playing the A.I at one slider away from max. I'm still playing on 5 above zero for humans. Once you go below that human slider the players get too slow to compete.
It’s crazy because this game was like 20-30$ on release in 04-05. The depth has still been unmatched nearly 20 years later

When the next time you draft WR's make sure to grab the ones with hands being graded between 3-5 on the scouting report... guarantee they will be good
I usually go for hands ✋ first.. cause if you can sling it and they grab it.. TOUCHDOWN!🤣💯 Love the lobs.

@@austenbrainard2864 hmmmm....the crazy thing is usually when they have great hands their speed be anywhere from 66 to 80 speed at the most or they can't hold on to the ball

The funny thing is, I drafted a 66 speed HB named Ricardo Washington.
He’s had 3 seasons where he got over 1500 yards, 2 of which were 18 and 1900 yard seasons.
He’s also caused a little over 40 injuries in his 5 seasons with us, no, that is not a joke. Most of them have been severe too.
Point is, even slow backs can be monstrously effective in this game, and that’s the beauty of it.
Oh, also as a Tip NTE. On the first day of the combine only use one hour and look at a wide variety of players. You can get a general enough picture from it that if they look really good you can give them 2 more hours, or if they look bad, no sweat off of your back. It helps make scouting way less random.
Oh, and on a final note, don’t get concerned if you draft a player with a 60-70 overall rating. Progression is very random, and it makes it interesting. I drafted a 69 overall guard named Pena who became a 99 overall player 3 seasons in. Same with a 67 overall MLB I got in the second who’s now 87.
I did the same thing in Madden 16, I drafted 2 secondary players, Abram Lucas, and Ellis Finley.. and they were both 7th rounders, they both reached 90 overall within 2 seasons, and Abram Lucas set the record for ints in a season

@@Hazel-Cross no, but there’s a PSx… whatever it’s called. A PS2 emulator that you can install onto your computer and emulate the game that way. It’s complicated though, and sadly doesn’t work for the superior Xbox version.

@@Hazel-Cross no, but if you have a 360 it’ll work. Also the same apparently with the Series X, though it required strange techno voodoo magic to get that working.
This game is all about timing. Its not like others where you can scramble around every play. You have to let the QB go through their drops so they have better accuracy. Only QBs with good scrambling attributes can move and throw on the run well. Also, you need to hold down X to charge your moves and sprints to make them more effective and then rapidly tap X to sprint.
The early 2000s, the time that ushered in the Wild Cat formations, and the 5 wide spread College looks. Right before that, everyone wanted 2 backs. A big bruiser and a scatback. It was a weird time for football. ALSTOTT UP THE GUT!
The main issue with this franchise mode is that for some reason only QB, HB, T, and DE’s go in the first round. The first pick in the second round is the most valuable asset in the mode

@Nunya Bizness it also has a couple bugs, but in my glorious Packers dynasty, I’ve experienced about a dozen glitches…
Over the course of 10 full seasons. Also, keep preseason on, because your rookies won’t progress and get better if you don’t. Trust me, otherwise most of your roster will consist of 60 overall players that you spent high draft capital on. Though it doesn’t matter if you play the games yourself or not.
Also, another great thing about this game is that every running back style is viable. I spent my 3rd overall pick on a 66 speed Running Back named Ricardo Washington.
Who’s gotten a minimum of 1500 yards in every season he’s started save his very first. Power backs are just as viable as elusive backs, and are honestly more fun. Especially if they somehow also have 93 agility like Ricardo “Muscles” Washington.
@@Beastking800 Not really... player progression and regression is dumb. All players automatically start falling apart at 28 years old and players are already preprogrammed to be busts - great players (no randomness at all). Players do not get improvements based on how much they play and what they actually accomplish during games - seasons. Huge deal breaker for me.
@@Beastking800 Madden 05 has the better franchise mode / player progression system, but NFL 2K5 has the better gameplay.
@@BronzeBullBalls Actually not that true. 2K beats Madden by a mile. You have to keep an eye on players potential ratings. If they are low, they wont progress at all. And 28 is pretty normal for players to start not progressing anymore or to start regressing.
You can't just throw and throw in this game....you have to mix up the play calling...the A.I. will adapt to you
Jesus, I forgot that the chargers had Doug Flutie, Phillip Rivers, and Drew Brees at the same time at one point. That's gotta be the most insane QB lineup in the history of the game.

These NFL 2k games were so much fun! I haven't even played many football games since they've stopped making them. To this day, I have a hard time getting into the Madden games after playing these 2k games so much back in the day.
I would rather watch this be a Franchise series compared to Madden's. Their so much to do as far as player and team development

@@Hoodie412 I guess you haven't played a Madden prior to 2015, because they are missing over 80 features that used to be in the older games. Current gen Madden has less to do than ESPN 2K5.
This is not a game where you want to wait on RB's in the draft. You have to remember this was back when LT was winning MVP. The draft logic is borked so but the late rounds there won't be any RB's left.
It's better to trade for one anyway.

@@harrycallahan5018 for me on all-American, and cfbr with standard sliders, they never miss anything shorter than 52, and punt in some questionable situations. Idk lol

Bruh, same. Weirdly enough, I grew up on 30th n Central, then moved to Berea when I was 8. From there to Warrensviile, then out to Cleveland Heights. It doesn't matter which side of the Cuyahoga, you're bound to find some crazy. When they found DeJesus, me and my gf were at the justice center on some petty crime lol. And across from my cell in the hole was Sowell. To make it weirder, this is when they started looking into the bribes and shit from Jimmy DiMora. I love you, Cleveland. But you can't even make this shit up, it's like watching Goodfellas with a dash of Stranger Things.

@@ravex24 Very few actually know what development means anymore. They think development means spring camp. People's patience is practically nonexistent these days and honestly, the product on the field is suffering for it. If everyone would focus more on real development, I'm willing to bet the games would be even more fun to watch with a smaller gap between the best and the worst.

Nah. The people who put the love and care into this game are LONG gone from 2k, and whatevers left of them is at sega. A 2k football game today would likely just be madden but with 2k engine graphics and even more pay wall shit than EA😢😢😢. 2k5 was SOOOOOO ahead of its time, that its actually insane and saddly we will never get back to this level of quality again
I want more and more 2K5. I know it may not be pretty to look at for some people, but I adore this game. All the way down to it’s magnificent animations

Man the animations in this game are still great. Graphics aren't terrible either. Hard to believe this game was only $20 when it came out. Imagine if it was still being made, Madden would have to make effort.

The thing about 2K5 vs Madden is that speed is not everything about a running back, remember drafting a power back in the lower rounds for depth, but he was so strong I always got him subbed in for

Your thoughts on the halftime show getting old is the reason EA tells us they don’t make a detailed show anymore.
They feel we will just skip it anyway to get back to the game. We let them get away with terrible presentation every year.
To be fair we’d skip the half time show in real life as well if we could.

One thing I remember about this game when it comes to players when you draft them they seem to develop a lot after the preseason if they was good player

This has to be my favorite football game ever to be honest. It's the first game I played a franchise mode with and ever since I have loved management type games. Even just the sound effects as you're scrolling through things is addicting somehow lol.
You've probably already played through a lot of this series so this may not help, but running is way more effective in this game than passing because of the funky throwing animations, so getting a good RB is definitely worth it if you can

Also, when i played this, Marcus Stroud and Jim Henderson, the giants in Jax, yielded instant results. Playing as both, i was able to get 40 sacks a piece in 1 season

I used to have NCAA 2K3 on the GameCube, and I can’t even tell you how much watching this game makes me want it back...
In 2004 the game was different, everybody lined up in the I and RBs had 25 carries a game QBs didn’t throw it 50 times a game like now a days that’s why RBs are taken sooner
I like this series a lot more than the "I made a team where everyone is terrible" one.
That starting running back would be Adimchinobe Echemandu, and you just unlocked a memory for me. Lol the Browns drafted him back when I was a kid and I always remembered him just because his name was so interesting

I recently dug this game and my PS2 out of storage and started playing again. Started a franchise mode and during the draft I saw a TE rated 42 named "Leroy Jenkins". You're goddamn right I drafted him while yelling "LEEEEROOOOOY JEEEENKIIIIINS!!!!!" alone in my living room.

Just a tip also let your QB finish his drop back and his passes will be more accurate. You're like in a hurry to run as soon as you snap the ball, and like you said he's a 30 speed, you're running into sacks. lol

It’s crazy to me how incredible this game looks and plays in 2021. This series is so much funner to watch than any Madden series.
You need to emulate a hard drive on the PS2 to get video highlights in the weekly recap/halftime show. Doesn't take long to set up and is totally worth it! Love the video

great vid man they made a mod now for the game where it updates every nfl team to what it is now updated fields jerseys rosters player photos etc... its a great mod an it brings a different look to the game man.
