    1:07 is my favorite. He gets a welt on his shoulder because he tries to riposte way late after the box has already lit up, then collapses to the ground and does the exact meme hand gestures that everyone makes fun of italians for, then Wagner comes over and shakes his hand while he does it. 😂😂😂 Some of these fencers should do improv comedy.

    • @nazlymovfencingblog3384
      @nazlymovfencingblog3384 Před 2 lety +8

      yeah, i did not get Wagner either. the only appropriate reaction, in the absence of the immediate black card, would have been another attack from the right.

    • @ScoptOriginal
      @ScoptOriginal Před 2 lety +24

      That's the thing, he doesn't hold the shoulder that got hit, he holds the one that nothing touched. And it would be easier to hold the one that got hit, because he would do it with the hand that doesn't have a sword in it

      I practice sport, classical, and HEMA. I love all three of them...but if a fencer tried to pull some of this stuff in a HEMA or a Classical tournament... Let's just say it wouldn't fly. Not allowed to talk under arms (on strip to fence basically) without express permission from the director (classical's ref) or scream. I find that there's a point where the other two disciplines have tried to divorce themselves from sport to their detriment. But, when I see stuff like this, I am happy for some of the more strict rules. 🙃

      Sabre is the last fencing discipline to have been “electrified”, and it is probably the one where the decisions of the Referee are the most delicate to call.
      The habit of outrageous gestures of victory to influence the Referee’s decision has been known in Sabre for a long time, and it seems to have continued in spite of electrification.
