I am keto as well. Down 70 lbs since October. I am the healthiest I have been in my adult life, other than my time in the Army. I enjoy your channel and videos. Your approach to reviews and style are wonderful. These keto related videos are just icing on the cake. Thank you for all your efforts. They are appreciated. All the best to you.

I started Keto in March of 2022 due to kidney issues (The kidney diet is very similar to Keto with the exception of the allowance of more carbs and less protein). I started out at 270 lbs and as of today (7-7-22) I am down to 230 pounds with a goal of dropping to 190 to 200 pounds. I have gone from size 44 waist pants to 38 waist. My concerns have been keto while camping.. and this video is inspiring.. Thank you for posting a very informative video.

If I was to use the coconut oil, I think I would make some kind of curry soup. I can get healthier versions of vegetable bullion cubes. I would use that as a base. Bullion cubes are easily packable. Shame that you can't get individual spam packages. I guess you would have to make your own with the vacuum sealer. 👉🇺🇲🇨🇦👈🤙

Looking to do a section of the AT for 2 weeks in August and I am trying out meals. I can't get my fats in either. Olive Oil packets are okay but not enough and there is only so much MCT Oil you can put in coffee before it turns into a mudslide on the trail if you catch my drift.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  Před 10 dny

Yes, I have been the victim of too much MCT myself😣. I am working towards a new video on more keto trail options. Like you say, it is hard to come up with things. A couple of items include traditional summer sausage and hard cheeses like parmesan. Old school pemmican works as well. I am about to release a video on "erbswurst" which will work. All these items have more weight that freeze dried meals but pack more fat and protein in them for their weight. It may be easier to slant your macros toward protein as sources are more common. You will stay in ketosis and your well used muscles will appreciate it. Thanks for commenting

Every time I see you in that style of hat I am reminded of the actor James Gleason. I love old movies!!! I did something similar to your meal using "Chicken Creations." I bought a mini rice cooker, and I've been experimenting making mini Keto meals in it. I ended up using two packs of the chicken salad to up the meat content. That's an awesome idea cooking with those packets on a hike. Great idea!!!

For all hikes, I bring a pound of Planters mixed nuts. Around 2000 calories, mostly fat & protein. Secondarily, I bring Salami & some Cheese. If I am going to cook, I bring a steak or sausage. I have a BBQ fork that I use to prop up the steak over a fire.

That is a meal I could enjoy. I eat those packages of tuna quite often at work, I get them from Dollartree for $1.25. I actually like the taste of coconut oil, I usually pick that or ghee. Cheers Mark!

I wish Knorr would start making erbswurst- pea and bacon soup in pellet form- again. Stick a roll in your pack and *know* tasty meals were available. Shelf life of granite...

Have you tried grinding the chia seeds? It gives you more uniform result, avoiding the clomps of gelatinous mass. In the coffee grinder with the fine setting.

I used to carry an alcohol stove as a backup for my wood burner, Now I take 8oz of wood pellets as backup.....they don't weigh that much more than an alkey stove and fuel, plus you can see the flames when using them

Hi Mark! I wonder if dehydrated Shrimp with the coconut base soup would travel well too? Thanks for sharing!

    • @wanderingkenknight

I’ve dehydrated shrimp and it does work. Having said that I expect freeze dried shrimp to be much better. I’d have tested that out this week pn a trip but the trip is not happening ( can’t backpack with a broken leg).
Wish I could find shrimp and crab in pouches like we have for tuna and chicken.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft I had to fry my own. I know of st least one company called Thrive Lifecthat sells a variety of freeze dried items including shrimp. I’ve not tried them yet but do plan too.

I haven’t used coconut oil in quite a while. I’ll have to pick some up. It’s awesome for cooking fish, but like your wife, I find the taste a little too noticeable to use too often. But lately I’m getting tired of the heavy oil taste, so maybe it’s time to switch it up.
As for the meal, on a cool day, you could easily bring a half a can of salmon, they have single servings of flaked chicken, or ham as well. For the stock, it’s too bad knorr stopped making the single serving packets.

I bought some avocado oil to try. Works great. Makes great mayonnaise. Just a bit too expensive to use on a regular basis. Thanks for commenting Jim

@@MarkYoungBushcraft A bit too expensive? Just how much is that RCMP pension anyways?! 😀. I got some and pretty much only use it for salads. But I already forgot about the coconut oil, so thanks for reminding me.🙂

I would almost trade ya a pack of spam for a Knorr Veg soup. We have several flavors, but not veg soup. Most have some sort of rice or pasta or a combo of both. I do like carrying a pack for a backup. Dang site cheaper than mountain house or the like. You mite try powdered Pork Rinds for a thickener. Almost zero carbs. And comes in different flavors.
