I didn't hear anything that sounded like a fuel knock by my experience. I would be careful about too much timing though, esp if you have a performance chip.
Yea it was a little weird. It didnt completely come apart. It was just one of the sides that was kind of loose like it wasn't pressed in tightly anymore.
so ive got a knocking sound on my 03 and you can really hear it when its acellerating and not on decel, but you can really hear it when the truck is next to a berm or concrete barrier. any ideas? fuel knock?
I dont know too much about common rails but it might be fuel knock. Possibly injectors going out? Does the truck have a lot of power still? Any misfires or anything else abnormal?
@@airikvonaspern3241 Yes I did. It turned out to be the side of the thrust bearing on my crank that was loosening up. I had the old 3 piece design so the pressed sides weren't tightly pressed in anymore. Kind of funny that it was that haha.
Jonas LaFonte actually I did figure it out. It turned out to be the thrust bearing. The sides of the 3 piece design that Cummins used came loose. the bearing was ok, it was just the pressed in side pieces that loosened up. Kinda funny. Ended up replacing all bearings anyway.
Jonas LaFonte actually just watched the video again. I said I already replaced the bearings lol. I'm actually not too sure what it was. it eventually went away. I'm thinking it just broke in the injectors over time lol. other than that, the truck runs great still. haven't had any problems with her. I have 354,000 miles on the clock.
Im glad your truck is running better, maybe it was a chip issue and it reset itself (depending on the chip). It seems like it's a given that the injectors will go sometime between 150,000 and 250,000 on diesels these days. That tends to be the most expensive issue next to having a complete rebuild. I have a older 7.3 Powerstroke, I like it better then the newer Powerstrokes that are laden with issues, bad DPF's that torpedo the injectors and overheating EGR's that toast the engine. To me simplicity is the key!
Mines currently doing this at 160k bone stock
On cold start u would here it as it warm up engine expands and closes the gaps by the tappers maybe your tappets need to be adjusted

did you ever figure that out, I am noticing the same on mine. I have heard that non bosch injectors have a slight knock...I hope to hear back from you

Was injectors, replaced them, they failed again, replaced them again and theres ones thats not firing right. Gonna tear i to the motor
nick ameiss ever get this fixed? What you described is what mine is doing and I’m having trouble figuring out what the noise is for sure
