    They made us do this in school. This beat you got is actually the basic one. Imagine doing this in a traditional costume and with varying beats with matching choreography. And yes, blindfolded. And... with a clay pot thing balanced on the top of your head. It was so damm hard. But it was fun.

  • @averagepanda9353
    @averagepanda9353 Před 6 lety +449

    When we did it, the tricks our teacher gave us were:
    -DON'T hold hands. If you managed to lose your balance, you'll make the other person lose theirs too.
    -When stepping out of the bamboo, make sure that your feet doesn't stray too far away. That way, you can step in without having to take another big step (it actually makes dancing a bit easier)
    -Try not to look down. The more you focus on your feet and trying hard not to get your feet struck with the bamboo, the more chances you'll get stuck, the more sore feet you get.
    -Keep your hands to your sides(like a penguin), and refrain from flailing your arms around. (It actually helped us steady our bodies)
    -Its a playful and traditional dance. Smile, feel the rhythm flowing through your feet. Dance Filipino Style.

    • @Phin_Again
      @Phin_Again Před 5 lety +29

      Also, never go flatfooted. You push too much energy that way and you tend to lose balance more. Stay on your tip toes so that it can be quicker and be less likely to get clapped

    • @redgoldcrown3990
      @redgoldcrown3990 Před 4 lety +10

      also!! don't jump so high! the bamboo sticks move sideways, not upwards. you get tired sooner if you're leaping a foot in the air to avoid the bamboo sticks. just do a lil hop. don't raise your feet too high, either, it means you're slower to put them down.

    • @moonshinedreams3745
      @moonshinedreams3745 Před 4 lety +4

      Also just listen to the clapping of the bamboo. I think it's the most important thing if you're scared of getting hurt. Get used to the beat.

    Which Filipino dances to try next?
    - "Singkil". 4 instead of 2 bamboos. More complicated rhythm.
    - Sayaw sa bangko. Literally dancing on top of chairs stacked on top of each other,. Said chairs look like hurdles.
    - Pandanggo sa ilaw. balancing 3 glasses with candles inside them. Placed 1 on each hand, 1 on top of your head.
    - Binasuan. Same concept as ^ but with water inside the glasses instead of candles.
    - Ragragsakan. Balancing baskets on your head.
    - Bao. Balancing a clay pot on your head.
    Have fun, Buzzfeed! :D

    I remember dancing this in high school with a much complicated and choreographed steps. Also keeping your head up is a must. You can’t look down and just trust the beat. We also did sayaw sa banko, ragragsakan and pandanggo sa Ilaw but it’s almost impossible for us to balance the glass since we’re only grade schoolers so we had to glue it on a card board and Bobby pin it on top of our heads lol
