    I really adore the chord inversion functionality. Stimming doesn't even mention it, but I imagine it is a game changer. Cause with other machines with only chords in root position, everything sounds quite cheap pretty quickly, as soon as chords are more than 2 notes apart from each other. Inversions is what (good) piano and guitar players do intuitively, so the tonality can change without having the chords jump up and down all over the place. Really neat feature!

    I ordered my Cycles before this mess started, so no idea when I'll get it, but I just have to say: the fact that this is the same price as the DrumBrute Impact is absolutely bonkers. I love the Impact and its super raw sound, I just mess around on it for hours, but, I mean, the kick alone in the Cycles seems to be more versatile than the entire Impact, with it's fairly limited palette of sounds and no parameter recall. I think a lot of it will come down to taste, like Stimming says. I love Impact's raw sound, can't wait to see them play nice together.

    "it sounds different to all the other drum machines that are clones of clones"
    i agree that it sounds different. the other machine that also sounds different and sounds really impressive is the korg volca Drum.

    • @Bigjuggs64
      @Bigjuggs64 Před 4 lety

      Hey, I can't really choose between,
      Volca Drum vs Model Cycles
      I honestly don't really need the sequencer and playing from the hardware, I'll mostly use it for sound designing drums and sequence it from daw.
      In case of sound design, which one would go further ?

    • @256k_
      @256k_ Před 4 lety +1

      @@Bigjuggs64 i haven't tried model:Cycles so i can't judge, volca drum taught me that. youtube reviews don't do its sound justice in my opinion. on my headphones it sounded solid af. i only tried it at the store for 30 minutes so i didn't really get into much sound design apart just messing around blindly with sounds and parameters so i dont know how deep the sound design is.
      model cycles has chords though so maybe that is something you want. the volca drum sounds are all monophonic. i would guess that control wise, cycles would be easier since all the knobs are there while vd seems more complex and much less intuitive.

      @@MartinStimming Yea, it was an "interesting" design decision. Buuuuttttt... Since all the voices are the exact same synth engine, once you get yer head around the params (and there's really not that many parameters the interact to make an insane variety of sounds), it's actually REALLY fast to create and modify sounds. But the learning curve is kinda nuts. I guess it's like those stenographer machines they use in court or something... :) But glad to see you agree that the Nord Drum is indeed a hot readheaded Swedish chick! :) Just got my Model:Cyles to sequence the NordDrum and use the 3P's pads to program patterns into the M:C... It's a Swedish Threesome!

      also wegwerf-instrument würd ich hier echt nicht sagen! es ist gut benutzbar, ich würde sagen mindestens ein element kann sie ganz sicher in so gut wie jedes elektronische stück da draussen hinzufügen und es würde irgendwie passen. sie fühlt sich halt nicht so gut an wie die "großen" elektrons.

    does this hardware product only have 6 tracks at the same time or are others added as happens with the roland mc 101?
    can I use its effects if I add a hardware synth or another drum machine?

      it has "only" six tracks at a time and no, you cannot use its effects. the bigger brothers can do that (digitone especially)

    The overtones from the FM (and ringmod?) can sometimes be VERY unpleasent to my ears and easily too bright but he is such a skilled programmer and keps them under good control, while other producers may struggle a little bit with. So watch out. The bassdrum I realy like, the sequencer and chord looks very promising. Interesting he points out that the maschines sound appeared to be very usable in a production, which is an important sidenote and in the end will decide over dust or duct tape on it on the long run.
