Roach was a fighter trained by Eddie Futch who as people are aware of and beyond his own accomplishments has roots that go back to Jack Blackburn and Joe Louis. Roach never built a fighter from scratch as he went from Futch protege to independent trainer. He was always picking up work with pros to pay the bills. After Wild Card was established he didn't have space for an amateur program.
