  • Poverty is a relative issue. Few people realise that poverty actually exists in a prosperous country like the Netherlands. In this short documentary, Sjan tells her personal story. To better understand her experiences, supplementary explanations and ideas are provided by representatives from the municipality of Tilburg and the Food Bank.

      Sure, but is a bread €2 or is cheese €6 for 500g? Do you pay €100 for a mandatory health insurance (if you don't have one you get fined). Is 60% of your gas and electric bill taxes?
      Income isn't the whole story. It's income - cost of living - prices of goods that determine poverty. And poverty is relative. Being poor in a wealthy country is different from being poor in a poor country. The problems you face are different. Just because a poor person in a poor country is even worse of doesn't mean that a poor person in a wealthy countries personal troubles are to be laughed away. Not when there are a ton of people and companies in this world who have more money then they know what to do with and who achieved that wealth on the heads of others.

    • @krokodilgena9288
      @krokodilgena9288 Před 6 lety +3

      It originated from the labour law. Also the government collects taxes and pension deductions supposedly to cover our asses when we get old, but then it fuck it all up conducting endless wars-war on poverty, war on drugs, war in the Middle East. The was time in Hong Kong when people were taxed flat 10% on their income and it was their duty to save for retirement. That is a good system, but not in a financial world run on ever devaluating paper currencies. It can only exist with solid money. I would prefer this system. But the crooks in power always want to screw us any time and way they can. A few years ago there was a strike of railway workers in France who were pissed that their retirement age was moved from 55 to whatever age. Many people laughed and said that was ok. So I guess it is ok to pay 50-60% taxes throughout your working carrier based on the promises that you will retire at the age of 55 and at the end show you a middle finger. If the government broke the agreement it should return and compensate over collected taxes + interest. If you are behind with your taxes, they do charge interest, don't they? The bottom line is that we are not slaves in this society and our labour is generating enough wealth to cover old age retirement, if the motherfuckers in power stop wasting money on endless crimes.
